  1. dang' SWEET! Thanks for sharing!!
  2. Sorry, I'm a little off topic, not commenting on the painting itself... (which is great btw) but if you want to see some amazing contemporary images of fly fishing, you gotta check out this website! http://www.catchmagazine.net/ Lots and lots of inspiration here. Cheers
  3. Kinda scary for those of us who actually live here.... My wife picked up my son early at daycare today, so they could go to the library... Luckily, she got delayed, spending 10 minutes talking to the caregivers. I'm pretty darn thankful they didn't see this... frankly, I've never been so thankful she's such a chatterbox. Life is so random. Cheers
  4. It's not obvious to me what these are specifically required for, although I seem to remember a post about someone getting a triple hook stuck in their hand, and not having the right tool... Noob questions: why do I need these? Is there a specific model number? Thanks.
  5. Wow, this has really been helpful, many thanks for all the informative replies! Cheers
  6. So it sounds like I should focus on looking at breathables, I knew I could count on you guys for good advice. Do you have to get them loose enough to layer, or do they sort of come that way anyhow? Cheers P.S. the socks over the stocking foot is a GREAT tip, thanks!!:thumbsup_anim:
  7. torco... That's exactly my dilemna! I'm thinking neoprene would keep me warmer, that breathables might be better suited to a warmer climate, but what the hell do I know... Are you saying the ones with the boot may develop a leak on the seam? When I was in BC last month I borrowed a pair of Hodgeman neoprene stocking foot waders, nice and warm, plus I really liked the ankle support... I felt safe and secure in the fast current and loose stones. Does one tend to slide around a lot in a pair of boot foot waders? SRT8 > Angling Outfitters... do they have a website? Or do you have to drive to Woodstock? Cheers
  8. I've asked Google the question, read around a little bit, thought I would ask the OFC sages if they had any advice to offer, it doesn't seem like anyone has asked this in a couple of years. Maybe there's some new advice, or even a sale I should head towards... My BiL says we should hit Bronte Creek, or head up to Nine Mile Creek, whatever, I need waders. What is the advice to a new angler? Stocking Feet or Boot? Neoprene or Breathable? What say y'all? I take it used waders would probably not be a good idea? Many thanks. P.S. And, as an aside, if I see something on the BPS website, like this for $99, how can I tell what the Canadian retail in Vaughan will be?
  9. You must be very proud of the little guy... Cheers
  10. Hey guys One of my passions is beer, and over the years I've gotten pretty good at making my own. I started a club here in Southern Ontario called "Are You An ?"... (Southern Ontario Brewer) Here's the blurb on our event.... If you want to see how to make your own beer... Toronto's largest homebrewing club can show you how! Learn 2 Brew Day occurs on the first Saturday in November, when new, and not so new homebrewers around the world are encouraged to learn how to brew or teach someone how to brew. We'll have onsite homebrewing demonstrations by over twenty different brewers, each with their own unique style and approach. Learn how to brew, to build a setup to match your needs, and budget! Saturday, November 6th from 10am until 6pm Amsterdam Brewing Co. 21 Bathurst St, Toronto If you can make macaroni and cheese, you can homebrew; it's that simple. For more info, click here... The Breweriana Society will be upstairs showing off their collections, and you can always pick up some Amsterdam beer while you are there. Feel free to come on down and join us, there is no admission charge, and we're all pretty friendly! Cheers
  11. I just got back from visiting Suzanne's family, where I was lucky enough to get in a few hours fishing... Okay, so there's no pix of any actual fish, I thought I would share my FB gallery My link Cheers
  12. I'm really, really new to the sport, and have more questions than I can ask. Google led me here, and I never cease to be amazed at how quickly and patiently I get sensible answers to my dumb questions. The classifieds seem amazing, lots of high end gear for half the price of new. I've been on lots of other boards for my homebrewing hobby, and I've learned that the best boards, like this one, are not only active, but local. It's really nice to connect with people online, but building friendships with people who you can meet up with and share the hobby with can't be beat! Sounds like there is a great group here... Cheers
  13. Those are great pictures, from what looks like an amazing trip. There's no denying it was a treat to see them, thanks for sharing! Whereabouts were you in BC?
  14. Those are great pix, thx for sharing. Looks like an awesome day!
  15. One more question... if I'm fishing at Ashbridge's Bay, or the base of the Scarborough Bluffs, is that technically Lake Ontario?
  16. So, it's OK in Lake Ontario, or at the mouth of the river, but once the fish are in the battle upstream, they're off-limits? Makes sense. Thanks for answering!
  17. I took SWMBO and my little guy for a drive today, lots of autumn foliage, picked some apples. We had a picnic at the bottom of the Ganaraska River, and walked along the shore watching the salmon desperately trying to get upstream, I was surprised at how much time they spend just catching their breath. Okay, here's my dumb question of the day.... there wasn't a single person fishing there. Why was that? Are these Atlantic Salmon, and it's never allowed? Or some other reason? We drove back via Lake Shore Road and in Bond Head there were several people beach fishing, as well as at the mouth of the river there. I'm pretty sure you guys have the obvious answer, which isn't apparent to me. Cheers
  18. My mancave is just a small room in the back corner of the basement.... yet funnily enough, it's THE spot to hang out when I invite a few friends over! Yup, more than a couple of taps... I take a lot of pride in my brewing efforts, and do I like to share quality homebrew with my buddies. Cheers
  19. Great pix, thanks for sharing. I'm looking forward to the day when my little guy is big enough! Cheers
  20. As a professional photographer, I have shot a lot of different subjects over the years: still life, food and products, architecture, portraits, and more. My wife and I do weddings together as part of our business, and Friday night we were tossed the challenge of a decade went Carlsberg hired us to photograph their Big Wedding Bash! Check out the slideshow.... Not what y'all are used to here, I understand, but thought I would share anyhow. Cheers
  21. Awesome shots.... I have to ask, obviously a telephoto, how long *is* your lens?
  22. Beautiful pix guys, thanks for sharing!
  23. Thanks for the detailed list... I have taken everything apart, and it is airing out, doesn't seem to be any water inside it at this point, so I guess there is something to be said for quality. I'll put it back together in a day or two, and give it a squirt of reel oil. I am fine, thanks for asking. Makes you understand how important a good set of footwear is, and that even a PFD/vest might be a good idea, particularly if one fishes alone. I did bruise my shin, and my ego a wee bit. As I hauled myself out of the water, I noticed a group of people had rushed out on the patio of the Yacht Club across the channel to see if I was OK. I tossed them a wave, and a hearty laugh at my own folly. I had been slipping and sliding on the rocks all morning, and it was only *after* my swim that I looked at the soles of my rubber boots.... no tread to speak of. I don't know how I kept my balance as long as I did! Ah well.
  24. It WAS fun, and a beautiful morning. The reel hasn't seized up, it worked fine, I kept fishing for a couple of hours. I'm just wondering if there are any preventative steps that need to be taken. Reel was a Shimano Sahara 3000FD, if that matters. Cheers
