I have to admit, $500 sounds like a great deal to me. Luck was on my side, it is available, when we can get away! I'll have to try and look into the boat rental. My little guy is eager to fish with me... Cheers

I responded to the advt in the classifieds, but while I wait to see if it is available, wondered if y'all had any other suggestions... Five Hundred Bucks sounds like a great deal for a week, and SWMBO and I are exhausted, from working too hard as well as a baby and toddler. We are looking for something from a Friday to a Friday this month (i.e. late June)... maybe someone on the list knows something, has something, maybe not. Not fussy about location, just needs to be kid friendly, access to the water, preferably swimming. Just asking!

FWIW, I just posted a GoPro Hero2 kit in the classifieds here, and apologize in advance if I am breaking a rule of some kind.

Thanks for the helpful advice... a great place to deal with. He told us where to fish, what to use, and we just kept reeling in pickerel.... Thanks guys!

That's great thanks for the link... They emailed me back to say that they open at six am, which is great for us! Cheers

Hmmm.... OK, well I guess if I don't see anything going up 28 we will try and find BJ Tackle. Thanks for the advice. Cheers

My buddy and I have decided to head out first thing in the morning (from Scarberia) to put his boat in, and fish tomorrow at Rice Lake. Just got off the phone with him, and he says that he would like to grab some live bait (minnows) on the way there. I haven't a clue as to where we can do this.... any helpful suggestions? Thanks.

I buy and sell a lot of stuff all over the net... and I'm amazed at how many good people are out there. That said, I have also noticed a growing trend, things are getting a little weird on kijiji. For example, we're have another baby in the next week or so, and I'm trying to find something like a Dodge Caravan let's say $7000-8000. I don't know why, but most of what I'm seeing on kijiji just scares me: a lot of the advts are actually con artists. Where do real people go to sell their used cars these days?

Thanks for the support guys, you've pushed me up into a three-way tie for second place...

If you have a minute, please help me win a Fishpond Nimbus Guide pack, by going to FB and click "Like" for my photo... Not much of a pic, but hey, I'm the only Canadian, and quite unaccomplished. Here's My Picture! thanks

Lake Simcoe perch ice hut operator recommendation

Lucky's Sons near Lefroy. Still waiting for more ice, but they're posting conditions on the homepage. -
Some of us have tighter fishing budgets than others, and some of us actually try and stick to them... I'm a thrift store/kijiji/Value Village kind of a guy with most of my interests, and have found it a bit of a challenge to get into fly fishing. I'm hoping to get out to BC later this fall for a family visit, and sneak off for a little fun with the salmon whenever I can. So, I was pretty excited to find two old fly reels, a great deal really, one is a Hardy Viscount 150, the other is a Young's Beaudex. I was told that they were old family pieces from the Gaspe, perfect for salmon fishing. They're a little beat up, but with a little attention they will be more sufficient for what I am capable of. I was a little tentative about where to take them in to get advice, and have some line and backing put on them. I didn't want some random teenager telling me what to do, and I didn't want to get someone looking down their nose at me for bringing in these old clunkers. Yesterday, I was meeting a friend to go to the Wilmot, and as I was a little early getting away, I stopped by Gagnon's in Oshawa. I was lucky enough to walk in and bump into dmasse. OK, I've never met the guy, only had the most passing of conversations here on OFC with him. I have to say, what a terrific guy. He made a big fuss over these old reels, even called other people over to look at them. He spent a lot of time talking to me about how to set them up, and took the time to make sure everything was just right for me. A stellar experience. I know we're all pretty quick to criticize and complain about many things, so I just thought I might take a moment to express my praise and gratitude to someone for going out of their way to make a my retail experience an incredible one. Thanks Dave! :clapping:

Thanks guys, that was my point of view, but I couldn't find anything online to back it up...

Pleasure Craft Operator Card Do you need to carry the card itself, or will a photocopy of the card itself be sufficient? This came up in a discussion on the weekend, with opposing views being offered, and despite my best attempts to read the rules/regulations/legislation online, I can't find a definitive answer. What happens when you get stopped? Thanks

I think this is a GREAT idea! Congrats Ron for taking a stand!

In my corner of Trawna, it's the miniature schnauzer. Eva is a fabulous breeder, she's located in Milton. http://www.evalillkennels.com/ Cheers

Roy I'm not sure I understand what you mean by the phrase "giving time to feel the weight", so maybe that is my problem... In the box, the the point of the hook is buried in the plastic top of the frog. I left it that way, and also tried having it stick out a bit more. The bass were certainly biting, they loved this darn thing. But I don't think I reeled in anything more than about 10 feet. So, you think I need to let them *eat* the darn thing? I've never fished with anything like this before. Thanks.

What's the best way to rig the hook on one of these kicker frogs? http://www.berkley-fishing.com/products/soft-bait/powerbait/kicker-frog We were south off Georgina Island yesterday, and the hits were plenty, but I had trouble getting the hook to set. I was basically using it just as it comes out of the package... Any thoughts from more experienced anglers? Thanks!

I've started going out with a buddy who has himself a new little fishing boat... and it has a little fishing well under one of the side benches: I'm not so sure that we are using it correctly. There is a pump that brings water in, and an overflow pipe so the live well doesn't get any deeper that 16 inches or so, and a plug in the bottom. Are we supposed to leave the pump on continuously, so the water keeps refreshing? As well, do we need to be aerating or oxygenating the water? Or putting in some kind of water treatment? Or do we just fill it up, put the plug in the bottom, and let the water stay the same all day? Can the fish travel home in the live well (in the boat, on a trailer), or should we be killing them dockside, and putting them on ice? (This is a SMALL live well.) Any helpful answers are most welcome! Cheers
