Yeah I'm with Clampet. Just bought a tip up at the show last Friday and spooled it with 10 lbs Trilene. Used it for the first time Saturday no problems. Caught a pike on it to.
-
wow Merc. thats a nice bass outa that lake, pike look like what I usually catch size wise. I'm with Dmasse, pretty sure there is no walleye in the lake
-
Never had a tape, but I'd honestly say about 20 inches long. All the pike I have ever pulled out of that lake were all around that size. I'v never herd of any one pulling one out much bigger.
-
Yup just got back an hour ago. Landed one pike, and lost 2. All on my new tip up I picked up yesterday at the show. And yes they do sell minnows.

When you're hungry, everything tastes good Yeah your right about that Campet

Hey all was just thinkin of ideas of what to bring out on the ice to eat. What do you guys like to cook with and eat. I was out icefishing for the first time last weekend and rented a heated hut. I ended up bringing my coleman camp stove to heat up some chef-boy r d (sp?) buttered bread and some cookies. What do you guys bring thats small and conveinent to carry or drag behind a toboggon? I think next I'll bring along some canned chilli.

Wow minnow information overload Guys I have to say thank you very much, I'm looking so foward to tryin out all those hooking minnow tips. Thanks very much once again.
-
Yeah "Raf" thats what I was doing. I just kept jigging. "setomonkey" I was using minnows that I got from the guy that rented me the hut. As to where they came from before arriving there, I dont know.
-
Okay the way I was hooking them was through the mouth and having the hook come up between the nostrils. The way you guys are already talkin I'm pretty sure I had it wrong? Yes? "Urbanangler" yes I did catch one pike in about 4 1/2 hours. The action wansnt hot at all. Talked to a bunch of people and only a few I talked to ended up landing pike. Good place to go although if your looking for something in and around the GTA. "Greecoachdog" Thanks a bunch I will definatley try hooking them both ways next time out. I just had it opposite to your last rigging way, turn the hook down through the nostril...got it thanks. "Roy" cant leave you out, thanks alot and I'll try your way as well, just before the dorsal, thanks.

Hello out there everyone. I dont really post on here a whole lot, but many questions and stuff I think about come from others asking the same or simalar things. I went out Saturday for the first time icefishing up at Island lake in Orangeville. Had a great time and cant wait to try again. My question is as follows. We were using minnows as bait, but noticed after about 5-10 miniuts they would stop swimming/moving on there own. Is this normal? Because of the cold water do they normally die while on your hook? If so should I just keep it on the hook and continue jigging with the dead minnow? Any input? Thanks Greg.

cool, theres a place in Brampton north and a place on the Brampton/Mississauga border that people fly these things. I don't have one, but I'll go there and fart around with my t-maxx. My neighbour is into the heli thing and just bought a turbine engine one, the bloody thing has like a 1 1/4 exhaust on it and a flame that looks like it'll do a steak in 2 minutes. Have fun.

at work we use whats basiccaly a corded jack hammer ( to knock bricks of a house out ). If you know an electrician or hvac guy he would likely have acess to one. Maybe you could hit it with that and shake it loose enough to, like Irishfield said pull it from a cement post? just an idea?
-
yeah now I'm jealous, thats awsome man thanks for the pics.

Fisherman and Dabluz, thanks alot for taking your time and writing back with the tips. To be honest I,m unsure what lbs test came on that reel, but I'll go have a look at crappy tire and see whats available. Bare with me guys I'm no pro at ice fishing and will probley never be just lookin for some tips to help make the day more enjoyable. Thanks again everyone.
-
Thanks everyone. Sinker, I'll go look for some of those wide gap hooks at crappy tire. As for my ghetto line, which line would be best. What do you guys and gals use? Is there ice fishing specific line? or can I scab some off a partilly used spool of new line. Sorry for all the questions, but I thought I would ask the people who know best.

why did I have a feeling someone was gona say that? Why whats wrong with it?

Hey everyone never really been into ice fishing before went a couple times when I was 8 or so, but looking foward to gettin out this winter a bunch of times. Was at bass pro yesterday and picked up some of those berkley baits ( the ones you jig upwards and they fall in a circular patteren ) and some of those little grub looking ones ( sorry dont know the name ), But my question is what size hooks do most of you guys use for rigging minnows? and which way seems to work best for in terms of rigging them? (through the mouth, back etc.) By the way just picked up a ulgy stick ice fishin combo with line for about $ 30 anyone else have one of these? any good? Thanks for the help. Greg.
