  1. So next Saturday I will be heading out to the Niagara area and will have about 8 hours to kill and was hoping to wet a line. My friend and I have a boat but have no idea where to go or what species to target. I believe parts of the Niagara are fishable by boat but am unsure where to lauch from. Is there anywhere else in the general region that is accessible by boat or shore?. We do not have downriggers or equiptment for deep water trolling. Any tips at all would help . Thanks in advance Jonaton
  2. So you guys were one of the other brave souls out there. I was out with a friend, we rented from where you launched. I was shocked to see the ice when we pulled in. I did however have a little better luck than you, I got a nice 38" and had two on breifly with very remote releases. I will post the days events when my buddy sends me the photos.
  3. I am heading out to canal lake tomorrow and was wondering if it is even worth thinking about muskie. I have heard the fishery is not doing to well up there for muskies. Would it be better to focus on the other species? I know muskies are few and far between even under good circumstances but would rather not waste my time completely chasing something that is not there. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer Jonaton
  4. Next Sunday I have a day out of the house and was hoping to head up to the kawarthas to chase some muskie. With just one day which would you hit? I was looking at Canal, Balsam, Rice or Scugog. While I would love to land a monster, quantity is just as important as the two of us are somewhat new to muskie fishing. And a second quick question does anyone have any boat rental suggestions for these lakes? thanks in advance for your answers Jonaton
  5. The family and I will be heading out camping the last week of August, we will most likely stay at one of the provincial parks. What I am looking for is some advice on different sites. here are some of the criteria. It needs to be 2-3 hours tops from Toronto, have somethings to keep the kids (18, 13, 3)/non fisher people entertained nearby besides the usual camp site stuff, and if at all possible as we will probably not have a chance to rent a boat to hold the six of us, good shorefishing or a smaller lake where we could rent a canoe or two (bass, walleye, muskie, pike prefered but I'm not picky). Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated and just up front Bass lake, Mara and sibbald point are out as we have already been and would like to try something new. Thanks in advance for any help.
  6. I'll be heading down there on the first ferry tomorrow. Those are some beautiful fish.
  7. Very sad to hear, hopefully you break a record for him.
  8. It will bring a lot of joy. My grandaughter showed up just over a year ago (I'm still not comfotable with "grampa"as I am only 34). looking forward to having 3 generations out on the boat one day soon.
  9. Can't wait till next year when the wife says the boy is old enough to join his old man ocasionally.
  10. So a friend and I headed down to the islands to see if we could find some bass for the opener. We spent about 6 hours down there and not even a sniff of a bass. The pike however were everywhere, I have never seen so many fish, at one point by sight I saw 4 just sunning them selves in 4-6 feet of water. We mush have seen 12-15 fish, noyt including the carp which were there in ridiculous numbers, why don't I fish for carp again? They however were uncooperative, you could literally bounce baits off of their noses and they wouldnt even move. There was one fish there that I thought was a carp at first but was in fact a pike. It was by far the biggest pike I have even seen in person and must have been a 20+ lb fish. Ater my friend caught the one fish for the day I spent a good 20 minutes trying to get this fish to bite, but it just wanted no part of it. I swear the fish kept looking at me and mocking me. Anyways even though I got skunked it was still a great day, other than the severe sunburn I got, I really have to put the sunblock IN my fishing bag.
  11. We went out 2 weeks ago without making a reservation. In Bewdley alone there are 5 places we checked out. You can call, but if you don't you can still easily find a boat. We ended up at a place called "the chip truck" I think. Weird name but 89$ for a full day in a 16' flat bottom with a 15 isnt a bad price. They had a boat for 69 as well I beleive.
  12. We rented right at the south end of the lake, I think we ended up at the chip shop? We just headed to the lake on a bit of a snap decision at about 1am Satuday. I am sure some of my hooks need sharpening but I think it was also the fact that all of the hits I had were on large baits. When I targeted walleye I had not even a bite.
  13. So a friend and I headed out to rice today at about 5:45, by the time we got a rental sorted out we made it on the water at 7:30. I was amazed at the amount of carp where we launched, they were everywhere. So we decide since neither of us has even really made any effort we are going to specifically target walleye. He rigs up a worm harness andafter 1 or 2 blue gills he pulls in a nice littlewalleye, his first ever. (he has a pic if he would like to add it to the thread). About my third cast of the day and I very breifly had what I beleive was a very nice smallmouth or walleye on but it was off just as quick. We check out a few places and he managed a few more blue gills and I had a couple of good hits but the fish just weren't staying on. So we head to a random marina due to poor planing in the food and beverage department for the hundredeth time. Back on the lake I decide I was going to turn my focus to muskies. I had one really quick hit that I am pretty sure was a nice little muskie but again off again. Finally throwing a 1 oz spinnerbait I caught (almost?) my first walleye. It hit about 15 feet from the boat and i was sure it was a muskie as looked really long when it first flashed. About 4-5 lbs but I got him to the boat, he stopped fighting, I grabbed his tail, he gave one last kick and was gone. All in all a great day on the water even if the fishing was a little slow.
  14. Due to time constraints i will not be able to make it to the island this Sunday. i was looking at maybe heading down to Tommy Thompson at check out the spit area. Has any one had much luck with pike down there. not asking for spots at all just about wether you have had any success. Thanks in advance for any replies and good luck to all of you heading out this weekend.
  15. While that is a lovely fish was anyone going to tell him that the pike he was fishing for are out of season? Can't think of anything else you would try to catch with a bucktail.
  16. I disagree with every single statement you made in your above post.
  17. I remember what 20-25 years ago it was the opposite, we were all goingto die in the next ice age.
  18. Sorry to hear about the skunk, I am hoping the weather holds and I can start back to my Sunday weekly fishing.2 more Sundays till the season closes.
  19. Well since it was such a nice day yesterday a buddy of mine and I decided to see what we could see at the harbour. Almost all of the ice is out and we were good to go. About 5 minutes in a hit, fish on, set the hook...I guess I forgot to reset my drag after the winter, fish off. We spent a couple hours down there and had a few follows on very typical slow presentation baits so i decided to go the oposite way and let a spinner sink and then burn it back.About 3 casts in my Mepps black fury was crushed by the fatest pike I have ever seen. Probably only 32 inches but 12-15lbs. 3 casts later I had a day ending birds nest with the new power pro. All in all it was a great first day out and the pike are pretty active already.
  20. I have also had luck late in the year over at the far east side of wards island in the shipping channel.
  21. My friend and I were fishing the harbourfront last weekend when a seagull dive bombed his x rap and took off with it. The seagull was released unharmed.
