  1. Last Sunday we headed out to Scugog, unfortunately due to a lost boat key we didn't hit the water until about 9:30 and it was a schorcher of a day. For the first 5 or so hours of the day you could have convinced me the lake was void of fish, not a snif. Then finally my buddy (caseone out here) lands a little half pound bass not even worth a picture. A few minutes later I got this little walleye and that was it for the day. First day in a long time that by the end of the day I really just wanted some shade and to get off the water, I swear I was medium rare, at least we finally remembered sunscreen. This past Sunday we were planning on heading to Sturgeon but that fell throgh so we hit Scugog again. This day was the complete opposite, cold, wet and windy, it was however a better fishing day. As caseone had to attend a family dinner we had a very limited amount of time to fish and launched out of Port Perry, we usually launch off the Island and are not at all familiar with this side of the lake. Again the first couple hours were pretty uneventful another dink bass and then nothing. We headed up to the top of the Island and drifted along there. After a few minutes I hook into by far my personal best walleye. SInce we don't target them much it really wasn't much of an accoplishment. It wasn't measured of weighed so I have no idea. A short while later caseone hooks into a beautiful Kawartha muskie. It was the most acrobatc fight I have ever seen, the fish made 4-5 good jumps clean out of the water. We drifted a little more but the wind picked up and even with a sock we were really moving and it was almost time to go so we packed it in and called it a day. Cheers Jonaton
  2. Even if a black hole were formed by the LHC it would be so small and so brief that it would be gone before it could do anything at all. There is no chance, absolutely zero that this will start a black hole that will suck up the universe. As for the 2012 thing, the Mayan calendar ended several times, just in the past the good christians hadn't yet slaughtered them all so they were able to write another. With them all being dead now there is no new calendar
  3. Nice job and report as always, I was hoping to make it up there tomorrow but looks like plans have changed yet again.
  4. If we launch at Lindsay do we need to go through the lock or is it on the sturgeon side? Thank you both for your suggestions.
  5. I am heading up to sturgeon lake this Sunday and have only ever used launches in the northern part of the lake. Does anyone have any suggestions for a launch in the southern part of the lake? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Jonaton
  6. I gotta say becoming a grandfather is pretty cool, I did it at 33 years and 4 days, just a few years ahead of the average. Congrats and good health to the little one.
  7. You must have arrived after we left for the day, the bite during most of the day was really slow, mind you we weren't targetting bass.
  8. Looks like we are heading to scugog instead of sturgeon, still looks like a beautiful day maybe not so good for the fishing though.
  9. Snagged salmon? ok just kidding Not that they are THE best fighting fish but I have caught some Sheepies that have fought as hard for their size as anything else I have caught. Some of the bigger ones I've caught have fought like hell.
  10. Nice fish, I am hoping to hunt one or two of them down myself this Sunday (not at Laikair but still)
  11. Right now fishing Sunday, we are just trying to sort out which of the Kawartha Lakes we are going to go to. We may be up on Sturgeon as well. If you see a really ugly camoflauge boat up there make sure to say hi.
  12. Also, not sure if you were planning to or not but there isn't a boat rental within a long drive of the area. We checked in Penetang as well as Midland and were informed that the closest was about 45 minutes away.
  13. The lake is to the right as you come in to the park, the camp sites are to the left, it is not in the same area as the swimming beaches which are on the actual Bay.
  14. I spent a week up there last year and as mentioned there is a small lake on site. We managed a few dink largies and smallies but nothing over 1 1/2 lbs. There are better opportunities in the surrounding lakes.
  15. Myself the family and our family friend/uncle to my kids rented a cottage up on sturgeon lake for a week recently. The lake I think is now my favourite out of the Kawartha lakes I have fished. We caught everything in the lake as well as hundreds of pan fish for the wife and kids. While we got a few good fishing pics we missed a couple good fish forgetting the camera one day, catching an unexpected PB walleye at 2am off the dock the night we got there and losing about a 4lb PB smallie as it touched my fingertips and unhooked itself. Out the first day I got this little guy, he was the worst fight for a muskie ever other than a nice 2 foot jump. He jumped then sat on top of the weeds beside the boat. I missed 2 more muskies that day both about the same size as every fish of in all species were caught on spinerbaits (or worms) they wouldn't bite anything else and we threw everything in the box at them. We picked up a few largies that day as well but nothing really of size so no shots. The next day out we had the 6 of us out in the boat, the kids were fishing with worms and we got a few nice smallies and some pan fish when suddenly my buddy says he has a muskie on. I fish the front he fishes the back and my wife 2 kids and granddaughter are between us so everyone moves over and under each other as I get ready to help him land it. This after a long time trying was my buddies first ever muskie a good healthy fish. We headed in shortly after that and headed out later to the same area, we tried but didn't get any more muskies the rest of the week as we had more family oriented activitie planned but had a good night with the smallies. We took a few shots but they were mosttly about the same size. It was funny at the start the girls were worried we would just want to fish the whole time, by the end they were on the dock more than us. We all had a blast and as always went by way too fast and I look forward to getting back to the lake soon.
  16. What a great fish to catch in a kayak, I think I am going to have to rent one one day as that just seems like too much fun.
  17. After spending last week up on Sturgeon at a cottage we rented I think it is now my favoutite Kawartha lake. We caught everything that swims in that lake in abundance even got a couple muskies in the brief time the kids weren't in the boat, actually my buddy got a 40" fish with the little ones there and it was interesting trying to manage the fish with 6 of us in the boat.. congrats on a great outing. I will post my report soon.
  18. Nice catch, but eating an 18 lb fish from Lake Ontario? Too many of those will send you to the
  19. Well I hope you don't drive or own a boat, you are doing far more damage to his lungs and the environment than smoking in an open space.
  20. While I agree smoking around kids is bad they are outside on a moving boat, try walking in any city and breathing in the car fumes among other pollutants, tell me which is worse for the young boy.
  21. Wow, those things would eat my PB muskie, huge fish.
  22. Do you mean Salerno lake? Well I can't offer too much as I have a cottage rented in that general area a week from now, but have never actually been up there yet. I did however find a map of the lake at anglers atlas. It seems to hold small and largemouth bass, muskie and perch and seems to be a moderately deep weed free lake. There seems to be many accessable lakes up there within about a 10 minute drive. http://www.anglersatlas.com/lakes/25336/ This is a map for the lake, you will need to register to download it but there are many excellent maps here, so it seems worth it to do so.
  23. Me and the family have rented a cottage for a week near Gooderham right on the Irondale river. I am not at all familiar with the area and was wondering if anyone could answer a question or two for me. Is it possible to get a boat through any of the river or would we be better off finding local lakes nearby to fish? What body of water does the river connect with? Also what species might I find on the river and perhas some of the nearby lakes? Thanks in advance for any help at all Cheers Jonaton
  24. I will be heading up to Pigeon lake this coming Sunday and have not had a whole lot of luck finding a launch in the Bobcaygeon area. I know there are a few marinas but none of them seem to mention a launch available to the public. Anyone have any recomendations in the area? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer Cheers Jonaton
  25. I have only ever caught 3 Walleyes and all of them were caught on 1.5 oz muskie spinerbaits in Firetiger pattern
