  1. Looks like you guys had a great trip. Got to love a 43" surprise on the walleye gear!
  2. Fishn specs on the Sutton with streamer and mouse patterns, pure trout porn! Been having great success with big streamers on specs and splake this spring and looking forward to finishing off the fall the same way. Thanks for the tease, looking forward to the full report.
  3. Catching 30 pound orange smoked redfin lakers, grayling in front of the camp and snackn back shore lunches on stromatolite covered islands while the inferno burns in the back ground. Sounds like it was an alright trip.................... Just another awesome trip to make me envious! BTW Bren putting a hurt on those big lakers, think I now where your getting your fish catchn skills from.
  4. Your buddies 49.5” and that 51” new PB of yours are nuthin but walleye eating tanks. I know what you mean about that rest of the day doesn't matter after catching a fish like that. Awesome trip for sure!
  5. Just so many beauty specks. I'm still seeing spots everywhere I look! That's one helluva trout fly in trip Mike, thanks for taking us along.
  6. Not just some great fish pics but also some interesting and meaningful stuff to follow along with. Enjoy your time North. and oh yeah..... that's a Beau-T bow!
  7. While some splake can have square tails and very similar markings to that of specs making them hard to distinguish other than by counting the pyloric caeca. This one has too many features that suggest it to be a splake. -red muted spots / lacks definition in halos/spots -Darkness of fish -Slenderness While specs may exhibit some of the above, to exhibit all suggest splake. Here is a beautiful splake a buddy caught yrs ago. Notice the perfectly square tail. Definition of the spots/ halos on this spec. and a splake from last weekend. (Muted spots, darkness in color) Either way a very nice fish. Splake and specs, love fishing for them both. I'm sure he gave you a awesome fight and an even better snack.
  8. I have been looking forward to reading this report for a while and it was worth the wait. Good to see you, Len and Steve got into some beau-T specimens up there. Nessie sized ling and those lakers dude........Hellz ya! That pic of the old Bravo buried in slush bring back some back aching memories. lol Another great read Bunk.
  9. Those are some nice bars of gold guys.
  10. Almost bought a 340 enticer long track, nice simple machine for the back lakes. First sled I owned was a bravo 250 tr. Lots of great fishing trips provided by that machine.
  11. I have seen them on a few occasions. They are a beautiful site and usually start off like this early in the ice season. Here is a P.B. from a couple years ago that had me headed back to that lake for the view! Get out in a snow storm and enjoy the view!
  12. I prefer minnows for my set line and tipping spoons but with the hike into this lake I took a doz. worms instead to keep the weight down. I know worms for splake?? Burned through the whole doz. on the set line using only the chewed up bits for tipping my spoon.
  13. Not sure the name. I picked it up some years ago and switched out the hook with something a little more fancy. Wish I could find more cause the trout luv them.
  14. Looks like another fantastic fall for you Drew. Now that the lakes are starting to lock up we need to plan some ice fishn trips.
  15. Nice catch! Looks like I wasn't the only one out for splake today.
  16. There are a few lakes I know well enough to feel comfortable fishing early ice. I decided to start off this season on one of them fishing for some first ice splake. Loaded up the gear last night to ensure a quick departure for this today's adventure. I spent the early morning driving through a tunnel of snow in the headlights that seemed to be sucking me in like some type of tractor beam until I finally arrived in gods country. The hike in for first ice trout always has me pumped. Got to the lake and noticed the usual wet spots (springs) After punching a few holes with the spud and finding 4-5 inches of ice it was game on Time to spoon feed these suckas The trout were on! Caught a least 15 but no matter how many I released I just couldn't get that upgrade I was after so I kept these 5 cookie cutters and called it a day. It sure felt good to be out on the ice again. Tight lines and be safe out there. Note: Most of the lakes I drove by were still not ready with all the snow we had, but this area really didn't get much snow until today.
  17. I'm not crazy, honestly Rural life is good but first year in my own place = working what feels like non stop = horse head report. lol Loving the horse play on words added with the comments, keep em coming.
  18. Just this year in order to build this report. Best was catching the guy peering around the corner of his cottage while I was taking pics of the bass. Im sure he had a second look at the drink in his hand. lol
  19. N.A.W Glad you got a chuckle as that the point of the whole report.
  20. I have been wanting to put up a few reports this year but have been just too darn busy with work and the farm. Although I have been busy working like an animal to support the new farm I did manage to get out for 3-4hrs the odd evening and horse a few fish in. I even got to join a favorite fishn bud for trip up north. So with out further ado here is how my summer started straight from the horses mouth! After a long couple weeks of work I was really chomping at the bit to get into some fish and decided to saddle up for a little back woods walleye. Grabbed my trusty ol fishn pole, a sardine can full of worms and headed up to Dunworkin Lake for the night bite. The evening bite on this lake can be hot on the right night and this night....... it was on fire. Tasty walleye after tasty walleye were horsed into the boat with a couple smaller ones kept for a snack. Best of the night was this big old golden stallion. I tell ya after catching all those walleye I was hungry as a horse. Back at the farm I decided to grill me up a steak and do up some fresh walleye in Cajun mix for a little extra kick! Hold on to your horses! Before I tell you about the rest of my summer here's a funny one I love telling the boys. So I met this lady the other night at the bar and after bringing her home and showing her a couple of photos........ she had to admit that I was half man half horse! Alright! Alright! Enough horsing around, back to the report. Since moving out to the farm last year I have been taking advantage of waters closer to home. This allowed me a few hours of horsing them in during the odd evening. Like some big mouth bass. The odd night after a game of horse shoes I would switch over to a game of craps. It just wouldn't be summer with out at least one quick trip for trout. I decided on bows and portaged the old tinny down the trail into sleeping bear lake. Fishing was slower than usual but I did manage to horse in this girl. What better way to end the summer than with my bud the Moose on a long awaited fishing trip up north. Time to giddy up and get ready for the ice season OFC'ers
  21. What can I say its always a pleasure while aboard the old stealth bomber ya Bunk. Its great to fish with someone who takes his fishing as seriously hardcore as you. The speck fishing was insane with you getting us onto football after football! Soooo many spotted crushers landed, multiple double headers, specks, specks, specks, specks, specks! Ok I'm done. SPECKS!!!
  22. Bunk you totally cruised into to the gar-dens of Gar-land and grabbed your 50 gar-badge with some crazy gar slayn skills.
  23. Bunk and gar what a way to kick off the spring. I knew when you told me not to cast for those first gar because they were too small that it was gonna be a killer outing. To get into those fish with you was insane. It was even more insaine to watch you release that beast. Props
