  1. Congrats on the new P.B. What a Beau-T! So jealous. Still waiting on some consistently cold nights, first ice specks are what winter is all about.
  2. Would be awesome to have a tiger trout fishery here in Ontario. As well as an organization similar to Flippr to help set up and manage several trophy lakes. As a destination for sure, met several guys that traveled from Ontario, Alberta and the U.S. while up there. Thanks Joey. The fishing was alright.........................
  3. Thanks for that fix of beautiful trout. Should help hold me off till ice up. I think you should wear you toque down there while sipping your rum, just so they know your Canadian eh!
  4. The Tigers are awesome Chris and truth be told although I caught some beauty tigers, I was after big colorful male and that would require a return trip. Last trip at least two days I had the lake to myself, probably in part due to the weather. This year was totally different with lots of people out each day, all types of weather. I think I counted 13 people or so the one day and it made accessing certain spots a waiting game some days. With the crowd growing and few nice tigers under the belt it will be sometime before I would consider the trek again.
  5. Dave there are few other oddball hybrids out there but I assume the fact that tiger trout occur naturally in some areas may have encouraged the process. John your right about them being sterile both in the wild and the stocked triploid trout. Glad you guys think there just as cool looking as I do. They are also a very aggressive and fun fish when they turn on. Working on the 2nd part of the report from this year where I drove the 2700km to fish them again along with auroras on the way home.
  6. Been really busy in life and although this is the one fishing forum I visit daily, it's been quite some time since I have posted anything. Well Drew (Moosebunk) has been asking me for a while to put up a report about a trip I did to Manitoba for tiger trout. With his help getting my photos uploaded and a kick in the pants here it is. Hope you enjoy! http://bunksoutdoorangle.com/manitobas-trophy-tiger-trout-by-mikey/
  7. You guys smuggling fish in or what? Wild ride for sure. BTW Don't post here much now but have enjoyed your last few reports Chris, keep them coming.
  8. Second day reading this report just to soak it all in. Drew you have truly hit the next level with your photo skills and you words as good as ever. Those six brightly colored buildings in a row followed up by those glowing char......just awesome! Thanks for taking the time to write this for us.
  9. Out of all the trophies you have reeled in Drew, she is the one that you wont top. Great read as always and looking forward to future Bren and Drew reports.
  10. Looks like an Aurora to me. Congrats on catching a couple of those cool little trout. A few years back MNR accidentally stocked aurora fingerlings in a speck lake. Can only assume you guys where fishing it, in which case there's no problems since the stocking lists clearly states that brook trout stocked lake regulations apply to it. BTW lots of fun rules regarding the Aurora trout and their lakes. Reminds me of playing card games with my cousin, he made them up as we played. If its not in the regs its probably its probably not a rule. (check with MNR when in doubt)
  11. It just goes to show that pigs don't fly, but they do swim! Still thinking about those pics of up north you shared with me after your return, just incredible!
  12. I knew you were back and there would be a report kicking around somewhere. Awesome slobby laker dude, I'm jealous! Tried grabbing that laker for you as it popped off at the hole, but my computer screen got in the way will just have to follow you down next time.
  13. Bunny quick strike rig........ Don't worry no rabbits were harmed during my adventures. Glad you guys liked the concrete sink and red cedar base, possibly more than the fish. Was a lot harder to build it right than to build it quick. Matt with all the great comments on it maybe an instructional post someday, but for now I have a couple more reports to finish first.
  14. Good stuff Simon, your son has really grown since your early reports. That pike must have been a lot of fun!
  15. Nice thick laker! Makes all the trips worth it when you stick it to one like that.
  16. Thanks Pete was wondering about that one, only my second muskie ever landed. Guess Tiger Muskie is back on the wanted list. lol
  17. 2014 was a bumpy ride. I lost a co-worker and friend to cancer, almost lost the farm, was diagnosed with a hernia and what the doctor described as extreme carpal tunnel in both hands, plus as usual I had way too many projects on the go. Looking back I have been lucky to get in a few great outings during 2014. Every year I set new fishing goals. This time it was getting some trout on the fly rod that sits in the corner of my office collecting dust. The other was catching some of those carp that have been breaking me off while fishn for crappie this spring. Goal 1: TROUT ON THE FLY About 5 or 6 yrs ago I was handed a handsome bonus from work and decided to blow it all on a new 5wt Sage fly rod and reel that looked nice and shiny to me. 5 or 6 yrs later and you still wouldn't want to be anywhere close to me while I'm expertly tying wind knots with this thing. This year is it...the year of the fly. So far its trolling streamers quite well. lol First trip of the spring would be for speckled trout. First I almost lost the truck to some type of quick sand shiz. Then I had to chop through giant pines scattered across the road with dullest ax known to man. Then I had to convince myself that I was not having a heart attack as I climbed the never ending hill loaded down with all my gear. The result.....My biggest speck yet on the fly rod. Second one at 22 Brought one home for the table along with some fresh wild garlic. Second trip of the spring was for splake. The weather was looking foul but after the previous trip I was itching for more trout on streamers. I rolled out of the gates heading for a favorite hump and on the first pass, wham! First splake on the fly rod. 15mins later and I was into second nice sized splake. The only problem was the little electric could not compete with the building wind. With couple smaller splake and a bass released I decide to call it before the random 50km gust sunk my ship. Unfortunately that would be it for trout trips this summer. Squeezed in a quick evening trip for walleye with Bunk but found the lake was not yet ripe with the late spring. Although a tough bite I did manage to catch one decent eye. Finished an over due project between outings. While at the locale clinic for an earache the question popped up. Doc-Whats your family doctors name? Me-Its been yrs since I've had one. Doc-Would you like me to be yours? Me-Sure. Time for my first physical in years. lol Turns out the hearts O.K. I have an umbilical hernia and carpel tunnel in both hands or extreme carpel tunnel as the lady in neurology described it. With all the bad news I decided on some comfort food for my heightened state of emotion and a few episodes of........ CARPEL TUNNEL CARPING!!! Most importantly chum the desired area and don't forget a little comfort food like some Chubby Chicken. Carping was hot, humid, and just plain sweaty awesome. Major reel peel as these fish tear off! Reminds me of salmon as you just sit there and let them do that initial run while watching your reel and wondering if it has enough line. Only thing better than comfort food is snuggling up in your own favorite carp blanket. I decided if I was going to catch the general, I would need to change tactics. Goal number 2.......Terminated! Ended the last month of the summer working on the house and even got in on the fall muskie hunt with Bunk. A true stand up type of fisher bud offering me first fish and netting me the only muskie of the trip. For the the first time in yrs I did not visit the locale trout lakes in the fall but instead used up some Air Miles on a last minute bucket list trout trip. A trip that will deserve its own report now that I have caught up on the rest of 2014.
  18. Nice to see the pics that go along with the tales of your latest northern adventures. With all that hiking around it looks like you'll be beating me in to those back lakes.
  19. If I read the article right it was caught on a top-water lure, insane! http://www.grindtv.com/outdoor/outposts/post/italian-catches-huge-wels-catfish-record/
  20. That is a rough day on the ice, and to have someone steal your stuff at the end of the day. Hopefully that thief steals something from the wrong guy and gets caught in the act! I remember getting into some bad slush way up on a back lake for specs while out on my bravo. Had to sit there chipping ice out of the track for at least a half hour in order to get the sled mobile.
  21. Drew you were truly at home on those tribs of the Moose and kind enough to share your adventures with Float and many others. A good choice in reports to bring back, enjoyed reading through them again.
  22. Well I set out early to one of my favorite spots to hook up with some attractive ladies. I couldn't choose just one so I decided to bring home all three. After we arrived home everyone cleaned up and I was ready to start dinner. As I reached over for some more camp style fries I couldn't help but ask........... Is that roasted garlic and butter you're wearing. Just a old report I thought would be fun to share again. Will get some current stuff up shortly.
  23. Drove by the lake many times but never ventured in. Have also been told the same thing about the walleye and pike. Does look like a nice spot to wet a line. Thanks for the report and pics.
  24. A couple cold ones, fresh walleye and a few buddies fishing on your own private lake. Looks like some good fishn..Gotta love fly-ins
  25. Crossed quite a few of the list over the last couple years so have been adding new goals Big beautiful arctic char on tackle and or fly. Lake run steelhead and browns through the ice. Atlantics on the fly. Lakers over 20lbs plus any of the trout species I haven't tied into yet
