Hi all, Had to go to town to grab the last 28 bags of pellet fuel left in Dryden. I was not planning to go to town today as i had a night shift tonight, but as i was now heading out with the pellets reserved i thought i might as well get an hours fishing out of my gas expenditure so i hit up a lake 10 minutes the other side of town for an hour before picking up the last of Dryden's scarce fuel supplies. For a one hour session, that was limited again by how far i could walk out within the time i had, it wasn't bad at all. Nothing showing on screen for 10 mins...then BAM....right off the bottom 40'FOW, big arch flew up and smacked my 4" Pearl white/silver fleck tube....nice 27"er. A few more holes drilled later...and a few feet deeper i got a 20"er......followed by a 'mini' laker to round off the day(oh yeah....one nice one lost half way up). Nice little session....and nice to see the generation of trout my boy will be entering in the OFC competitions when he's a young man! <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/JU9tox-9qlk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Whitefish and lakers again...slow day...but we got some!
limeyangler replied to limeyangler's topic in General Discussion
LOL...i know exactly of what you speak. You can tell when fishing is slow for me because there will be no POV filming in the vid where i hold the camera and reel up simultaneously....like you said " too focused on just landing the slippery buggers " Blair...it has been mentioned before that i'm a spoiled brat....lol. In that lake there are some Leviathan pike...i dont catch them...but the guy who has replied below does (a certain Ben Beattie to be precise) Exact spot...we were further south than the point going round to the bay, but yeah i normally fish about 200 meters away from the point(that little bay has produced good whities for me in the past when everywhere else seems dead....around 20'FOW). We also tried the first big island on the west side of the lake for half an hour...NUFFINK. Funny thing about the weather EH? That day though there were lots of people out...nobody was catching at all really, lots of people moving from spot to spot...everybody we spoke to said the fishing sucked, what a difference a couple of days makes...but that lake can be like that, HELLFIRE one day....cold as a corpse the next! -
Hi all, went back for whities and lakers. I did not have a good feeling about the day cuz the last few times out the bite has been on when its bright sunshine...today started out gloomy and wet. I got a whitefish on the first 'cast'...fish started coming off bottom as soon as my lure hit 10' under the ice and it met my offering half way up at 20'..slammed my micro tube jig. I thought my prediction might be proved wrong...but, 1 trout landed, 2 snapped/got off and 3 hours later my prediction was becoming reality. We decided to move across the lake to a spot I’d done well at before. We drilled holes from 60'FOW towards shore to 30'FOW. The bait fish seemed most prevalent in two holes around the 45'FOW and less so on the two holes either side deeper and shallower..although still present. It was the latter two holes that produced all the fish....we figured these were on the outside of the school running at that depth. We did not get or see any more trout and worked hard for a days total of 10 whitefish. However, the bite did start the moment the sun decided to peek out...adding further fuel to my theory that this lake produces best when you have bright conditions. i even checked back through some of my reports from years back..and again..my reports of good fishing were all pictures of bright sunny days...the less productive days have nothing but gloomy weather shots. They were nice size fish though...one i thought would be worthy of competition entry but came in at 26", an inch under what we already have. A bonus of a slow day is that all my fish were cleaned and filleted before i got home...i kept 4 out of 7 i caught....no need to take more when they are averaging 5lb a fish! Here's some pics and vids of the day...... <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/J6EHgZOzO0Q" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Hi All, I think my last 'proper' fishing outing and report was close to three weeks ago. Since then Family, conflicting work schedules and weather (not necessarily in that order) have kept me off the ice more than i would have liked. I was really looking forward to getting out there with our little boy lots this past three weeks, but alas did not pan out that way. He has been aching to get out with dad....he even found his own indoor ice auger to practice in the meantime! VERY IMAGINATIVE BOY....HE CAME UP WITH THIS GAME BY HIMSELF! <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ks-7pn3QcMA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> In between night shifts etc... we got out a couple of times for some practice runs on the snowmachine, trying to get him used to going longer distances without falling asleep....lol...the combination of snug warm snowsuit, cuddling up close to dad, the hum of the engine and rocking motion usually have him in the Land of Nod, steaming up his visor whilst sawing logs within 15 minutes. A FEW PRACTICE RUNS ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/lMVz1xgh2vk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Weather just hasn't been kind or conducive to getting out much, throw in work schedules etc....very patchy few weeks fishing. Basically 2 and a half weeks ago we hit a big thaw...fine...actually very little slush on the lakes after a couple days + temps and sun, but work kept me home. Then the weather got REAL cold again and froze the surface snow rock solid....I NEED A QUAD! We did manage to get out in front of the house one evening before the big thaw came, had lots of fun, but unfortunately my boy has yet to see dad pull a fish through the ice...!!!!???? GREAT FUN IN FRONT OF THE HOUSE! I did manage to get out around 15th March to take a friend of ours' young boy out....was not a hugely successful outing fish wise...but the boy had fun and got his first ever whitefish...he was well pleased with that......and his dad is in trouble as he now wants a fishfinder for icefishing! IAN'S 1ST WHITEFISH! <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/VojFgXtZUkU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I MANAGED A COUPLE SMALL WALLEYE AND A WHITEFISH TOO The next week was all work and 'ships passing in the night' type work schedules...and even when I had the time, the conditions were way to cold to take Jack out....wind-chill being the main factor.....but all through that week jack would constantly remind me through the medium of play that he had a desire to hit the ice........ GET THE HINT ALREADY DAD!!!! The weekend before last we went out to take down my buddy's shack, Im glad he took his snowmachine cuz I would not want to melt my sliders out there, and being liquid cooled...not much if anything to keep the heat exchangers happy either. Lew's buddy brought his quad too and that helped....DID I MENTION I WANT A QUAD?! I had to be back for five o'clock, and not much fishing was done up till then anyway, I got a small, well fed Jackfish, and Lew got a walleye just as I had to head out. GOODBYE SHACK TILL NEXT YEAR <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/U4fUFGXo8wo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> The whole of last week was work again, and despite being off at 6 pm which now means being able to get a few hours in front of the house things just did not work out that way. However, this Monday just gone we finally made it out, weather was perfect...a nice +2. We had to walk in about 1 click, but Jack was perfectly happy lying down in the sleigh there and back. It was awesome fun, Jack had the time of his life, but as the sun started to set the temps dropped really quickly. We were not catching fish either and he was getting cold and bored....so I quickly carted him back on the sleigh and mum drove him home, he fell asleep in the car on the 10 minute drive back...lol...exhausted! PERFECT FEW HOURS WITH FAMILY <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/nwuQJ5UW3Yk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I scurried back out and we stayed till dark, I forgot that Erika (my wife) had the camera so only managed a picture of the fish when I got home. I got a nice 21" walleye and a 16" and 3 small whitefish, my buddy Al got to whitefish. I cant believe that my boy has yet to see a fish come through the ice...he would be SOOOOOOOO excited...oh well, we have another 2 weeks before walleye close, and enough ice out the front of the house to last to the end....weather is gonna be all + during the day for the next 2 weeks too...hopefully the fish move through our bay this year.
