Thanks Joey, i'm loving that the cat follows us...she is a weird but very sweet kitty. DOOOOD...we will share a boat this year for sure! If you need to cuss me out Ryan..just use PMs....lol. Thanks for the reply Limey Doolittle....lol...gots a good ring to it. i'm dying to get out in the boat. Hey grt1.....i just went down to Gov. Dock on my way to work this afternoon....apart from our bay and 3 kms of the west arm the whole of the Goon to the east is completely locked in still. -
Hi all, My wife and I actually had 3 days off in a row together. The weather sucked on Saturday and Sunday, so lots of indoor stuff got done, but on Monday afternoon when baby went down for a nap i went exploring. I stopped at Crappy tire on the way out to buy a new garden hose and bumped into my buddies Al and Carmon, lol....they joined the adventure. We went to see if a local trout lake had enough ice off to cast from shore....nope...few days yet. So we walked down to a creek running out of the same lake to see if the suckers had started to run....nope....again a few more days. However there was a solitary walleye of about 19" just holding in the current under the falls...pretty cool to just watch him waiting for the Ladies to show up EARLY BIRD GETS THE WORM EH BUDDY? After that we headed to a small lake off the highway which we thought might be clearing of ice. This lake holds perch, pike and huge smallies. The ice was being blown off the lake as we watched and we stayed for an hour. Never fished for bass with the ice moving off the lake before...i got 2 hits and Carmon landed a decent one. GOOD ONE CARMON! I wanted to stay longer ....but my turn to cook supper...and baby was gonna be up after his midday nap...soooooo off we went. After supper we went for a family walk in our little piece of heaven. Its really great having a kid that loves the outdoors as we do this walk every evening now, before Jack came along we seldom did....its a really nice way to end the day. LOL...even 1 of our 3 cats has taken to coming along for the walk and will follow us the whole way....and given we have 9 acres....i am surprised she follows for the whole circuit of the property...lol...more like a dog! OUR KITTY EVEN JOINS US ON OUR EVENING STROLLS In that last picture, my wife and baby are standing on a little point on our shoreline that I had previously not noticed. The deer had beaten a trail off the main deer trail through the forest down tho the Lake. OMG...what a perfect spot to cast for my first ice out pike. We finished our walk and while baby and mum took a bath I snuck back armed with my floating jig set up and some 5"-6" minnows and suckers.......within fifteen minutes I had one on.....then i just sat for another 15 minutes breathing in the scenery on a beautiful evening. Hey Rick.....ice is taking a real beating this afternoon with the gale force westerlies. The whole bay is clear as of 20 minutes ago and the ice is gone as far as the main body of the lake....definitely done by next weekend. IN FRONT OF THE HOUSE THIS EVENING AT 5:45pm By the way....nice to meet you the other day at Crappy Tire

Hi all, At 7am the lake was shore to shore ice. Looked out again at around 4 pm....WOW....THE WHOLE BAY WAS OPENING UP! I expected another week at least before the ice started to shift with a purpose...oh well....not complaining. Now i'm really behind on my to do list! GOT SOME PICS OF THE ICE COMING OFF OUR BAY TODAY

Thats cool Geoff...lol...my wife is also a trained eye when it comes to spotting fishing opportunities. She curses when she realises she has just told me stuff about fishing that she did not even realise she knew!
-
Amazing.....how you gonna sleep......lol...i'd be sleeping in it the first few weeks
-
Well they're a determined species.. you gotta give them that!

LOL....Wayne, I literally just came in from taking the tarp off the boat and moving it inside the garage to do some "stuff" on it, and take out two sets of summer tires and rims, the deck for the lawn tractor, fold up chairs....lol....excellent storage vessel in the winter...and the tires make keep the tarp raised in the middle for water/snow/ice run off. Not a sign of critters anywhere....guess thats an advantage of using the boat right up till its minus 20C...all the critters were long gone by the time the tarp went on. Like you though...we have had an invasion of mice/vowels. My three cats are bringing back around 4 or 5 a day...steady stream. -

Hi all, I've been done fishing now since the 14th April. Could have got out since then... and some of the trout lakes still have questionable to good ice for walking...but i'm done. I promised myself this year to call it quits early to get yard/house/boat sorted before the ice was off....lol...i did good so far resisting the temptation to fish...believe me i'm pretty impressed with myself having not been for over a week....lol....but i'm behind on my to do list...in fact i have not even scratched the surface. Anyway....i did get out on the 13th for walleye with a buddy and then again the next day for rainbows(stocked). I got my first ever bow through the ice...a small one...but a PB...lol. NICE TO GET OUR 2 MAN LIMIT ON THE LAST OUTING OF THE SEASON WENT FOR RAINBOWS ON THE LAST DAY OF WALLEYE SEASON...GO FIGURE....LOL Now all thats left for me to do before the ice is out is get the siding cleaned and repaired, fix the deck on the lawn tractor, re do the en suite washroom(plumbing too), design and build planters for the flower bed replacement, fix leaks in the boat, summerize sled and equipment, bearings and rollers on trailer, fix tonneau cover for truck....ok....i'm breaking out in a cold sweat...i'll stop there. But the pressure is on, my boy is talking more and more about the "byeboat" and "go fishing mum, dad and you allgevver" (he has not got the concept of 'me' yet....lol). Yesterday he wanted to put his PFD on....i obliged....someone is ready for open water...even if i'm not! HE IS READY! Anyway....cant wait to get the softwater season off to a start....COME ON ICE>>>>MELT!!! Should be able to do some shore fishing for Lakers in about 2 weeks though....time to get my arse in gear. Tight lines all.
