I will check this out. Thanks

I launch at hartley bay marina eveytime we go and I think it may be too hard to get from the water to the cabins on crutches as they are up a pretty steep incline. I've also checked prices for French river lodge and bears den but I would like to eliminate the parking and launch fees if I'm going to get a cabin that's why I'm looking for a drive to camp.

My wife and I were really looking forward to spending thanksgiving weekend camping on the french river and doing some musky fishing. Unfortunately, I broke my leg and will be in a cast for the next 6 weeks. I still want to go musky Fishing but camping may be too difficult with a cast. We've spent many weekends up on the lower French in a tent for the past 20 years and I'd like to stay in this area but Im also looking at moving to the mouth and giving it a try out there. I am now looking for a lodge to make things a bit easier. Preferably a drive to cabin. Any one have any recommendations? Somewhere around Brit? Or Key river? Or closer? I'll be doing my research as well but any first hand experience is nice. Thanks

Why aren't you working on your deck now rather than on the computer asking stupid questions. Pound some boards down now! And then go fishing!

Words can't describe how I feel right now. That is something I hope to expierence one day. You are a very lucky man. -

Hello all, Heading up to lake Nipigon in two weeks. I'll be searching for PB brookies but will also fish for pike, walleye and lakers. I will have my boat with down riggers and all the rods, reels and tackle I'll need for all species. I'd just like to ask any of you Nipigon vets if there are some go-to lures you don't leave home without specifically for Nipigon. I am sooooooo pumped for this trip as I have driven past over 20 times and never had the time to stop. If all goes well, I will be making this an annual trip. I'll be sure to post a report on my return. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Once in a lifetime thing that you've seen in the outdoors??

My father and I used to fish a lake about 2 hours north of Kenora every year. We'd take the tent trailer and stay over night and fish 2 days and come home. One time, on our arrival, we were just starting to set the trailer up and dad told me to be quiet and look. I looked over on the bridge and a bobcat was walking towards us about 50' away. It seemed to not notice us and came to within 25' before turning and heading into the bush. On another occasion coming home from the same lake, it was dusk and there were many scattered rabbits along the road. As we'd come up to them, they'd bolt into the bush. Well one rabbit bolted across the road in front of the truck and behind it came a huge cat. I still swear it was a cougar but my father insists it was a linx. I remember it being orange ish and having a long tail. One last time coming home from the same lake, we had my sisters boyfriend with us this time. Driving along and saw something strange on the road in the distance, got the video camera out and crept up to see two linx play fighting in the middle of the road. We recorded them for about two minutes before they wandered off into the bush. Living in the north was a fantastic place to see many moose, bears and the occasional big cat and wolf. I truly miss it and hope to return to Kenora for good in the near future. My sisters ex has the video of the cats, I'll ask him if he can send it to me sometime. Maybe I can post it. -
I appreciate the advice and I have had a couple unwanted fatalities that were the reason for buying the boca grip tool. I had netted fish, brought them into the boat, unhooked, taken a pic and then tried to release to find that they just won't swim away. Now with the boca, I don't even take the fish out of the water until my wife is ready with the camera. I unhook them in the net boat side, grip their lip, lift for picture, revive and release. I've had a much higher success rate this way then before the grip. Maybe it's still not perfect but I will keep trying to get better at handling and releasing these fish.

Thinking of going from tiller to console
trevy727 replied to bigcreekdad's topic in General Discussion
I've always loved tillers. The open space and the feeling of the motor right on your hand is fantastic but last year, I was out in late October an ran into some really nasty weather. It helpe me make the decision to go full windshield. I don't regret it one bit. Now I know, if I run into some bad weather, I'll at least stay a bit dryer and feel a little safer. -
Nope, I'm not keeping all to eat. I have kept a few small shakers but none from this report. Too big for me.
-
Yeah, I was out Sunday. I'll watch for a green mr. Piker next time I'm out. Have fun!

I guess it's time to post a report since I haven't for quite a while. (and also just figuring out how to post from mobile) We got a new boat this year and are now addicted to Lake Ontario since its so close and full of fish. Been out a bunch of times an decided to enter the derby. So far our biggest fish are 2 at 30 lbs. not quite big enough for a prize but very exciting to catch. I'll let the pics do the talking.

Dusey Lake Outpost ~ Journey To A Brook Trout Zoo
trevy727 replied to solopaddler's topic in General Discussion
Fantastic report once again. You are a very lucky man to have the time, and money to make all these wonderful trips. I'm sure your son had a wonderful time as well. What a great experience. -
Ok guys, I've booked a cabin for the last week of August and my wife and I are spending it on lake Nipigon. I understand that the lake is single barbless hooks only. Does anyone have experience changing hooks on crankbaits to single barbless? What type/ size of hooks should I buy to replace existing ones? Thanks

I've got a 2012, 115 HP optimal and it's a fantastic motor. Not as loud as you might think. And great on fuel. -
Sorry, same for the French, 3rd Saturday.
-
Go to the French river, Hartley bay road. It's only about an hour north.
-
Good job guys! I love it out there.

Right on!

I tow an 18' Lund with a 2 door 2004 GMC Jimmy. I bought it for $4400 and that included taxes, registration fees, certification and e test. It only had 130,000klms when I purchased. It's 4 wheel drive, got a short wheel base and a 4.3l v6 and it's rated to tow 5500lbs. I like it.
