Ok, I was leaning towards Nipigon but the drive is sooooo long from Guelph. Any way, if I go to Nipigon, does anyone have any info on camping? Boat launch? Any usefull tips? I know I'll find it all on the interweb but I know there are a few guys that have been from this forum and I really appreciate the first hand experiences. Thanks again

Hello everyone. I've got the last week in August and first few days in September off work, 11 days total, and I haven't decided what to do yet. I've got a couple ideas and would like to hear your opinions on them. 1- Biscotasing for 5-6 days then French river for remaining days. I've been to both these places and I wouldn't want to go to either for the entire 11 days as the wife and I will be camping and we will also be at the French 3 or 4 times before these holidays. 2- Nipigon, river or lake? Is this a good time to get into some brook trout up there? I also have downriggers for lakers if needed. 3- French river for a few days and maybe hit a couple kawartha lakes and maybe a day trip into simcoe, lake Ontario etc.... I'll be happy doing any of these options but maybe you guys have some other ideas that you could share. Keep in mind that we will be tenting it where ever we end up. Thanks

Great report and awesome pictures. I've always wanted to fish Nipigon. I've driven over it 30+ times and have never had the time to stay and fish. I will one day. If you don't mind me asking, whats the approximate cost of a trip like that?

Awesome fish! I really want to target gar this summer. Can you catch them all summer? What type of bait do you use? Thanks

I've been anxiously waiting for solo's report of some huge Brookies, where are you Mike?
-
I sure would like to catch one of those. Awesome looking fish.

I was out yesterday from Bronte and got 2 bows and 3 cohos all on dipseys back 150' over 150-200 FOW. Then I built a board for my riggers and went out again today and lost 2 off the riggers down 60' and got 1 tiny shaker. Beautiful weather both days. I'm loving the new boat.

Nice fish! Were you guys down rigging? What type of baits were you using? Thanks

Good job! Nice fish.

Finally got a chance to sit and post a couple pictures of my annual spring canoe in somewhere trip. We decided to do an easy one this year, only 5 short poratges into Algonquin and a couple 10+ klm paddles. We were in on a Friday and out on the Sunday. Beautiful weather, fish were bitting and they sure tasted great. We got a bunch (10?) of Brook trout around 15-17" and 1 lake trout that was a bit bigger. We feasted on Brook trout after the first full day of fishing. I've never kept 4 fish in a whole trip before, this day we kept 4 for one meal.It was fantastic! Awesome time as usual.

Great story! That's crazy how the canoe cart put those holes in the canoe. I've been so busy with work and my new boat that I didn't even get a chance to fish opening weekend. My buddy and I are heading into the park tomorrow morning. I'm still interested in hooking up Mike, and talking fishing. Lots of time for that though. -
I've been in 15 portages and there's plenty of trout in there. Big ones too.

Yeah, I went fishing down there. Just booked it through the resort when we got there. 4 of us went and I think it was $120/ person or / couple. I can't remember. It was a very good time. Everyone caught barracuda except me. I caught a 15-18lb grouper. I think we were out for about 5 hrs. 4hrs fishing and an hour traveling in the boat.
-
BBM, What sunday did you fish before the 12th? The one you did really well on? Was it the 11th? Or the 4th?
-
Just 2 people in the boat with all the safety gear, 8 rods and reels, 2 big tackle bags, 1 battery, electric transom mount 55lb minn Kota. I'm not sure the weight of my boat but it's a 1993 Grumman with a 93 Yamaha 20HP.
-
Personally, I would go with the 20" transom and 20- 25HP motor. I have a 15" transom and was considering building it up and getting a long shaft, but instead, im buying a new boat. When you troll backwards into the wind, the lower transom takes on water. Even in small lakes. My boat was 14.5 with a 20HP. 37klms/ hour maxed out at.

The pens looked great but just remember the rangers were without their captain and top defenseman and don't forget the king. It would have been a much better game with those guys in the lineup and we'll see what happens when they meet again on the second last game of the season.

Hey, I saw that fish. Good job! Beautiful day to get out.

Best Way Carry a 5 HP Outboard into Portage Lakes

I carried my 10hp Honda on my shoulder but it was too heavy for anything over 1 km so I sold it. I saw backpacks being sold at the boat show in January at the Honda booth. They looked pretty sweet. -
No bugs in the early spring. Hungry fish. Fall is great too. Right before closing.
