  1. That's a great idea! Just checked Uhaul...they have pickups for rent with 5500lb towing capacity for 19.95 per day plus 49c per kilometer. If he's driving say 300km, that's $147 plus $39.90 for two days (assuming pickup the day before the trip so he can fish as early as he wants the next day). I'd guess you wont be able to rent the kind of boat he's looking for less. A full day in the kawarthas for a 14 foot tinny with a 9.9 can run anywhere from $80 to $100.
  2. Lol Wayne...I'd have felt better if I had bought some bad stuff.... Joey...maybe my house is haunted...I shouldn't jump to conclusions that it had anything to do with the storm!!!
  3. Joey...great videos! Strike between the two buildings? Yikes! I heard on the news they reported 500 strikes of lightning every 2 minutes. Was unbelievable. A few were right above me and the thunder scared the crap out of me as it shook the house and rattled window panes. The ceiling light in my room was off...but glowed softly for about 20 seconds...I bolted and ran until it stopped lol!
  4. Want company Saturday? I happen to be free lol.
  5. LOL...dont forget about the time you forgot the gaff and we used jumper cables hooked up to the battery....
  6. Happy Birthday!!!
  7. Wow...powerful picture!
  8. Nope....my first was TINY as well!!!
  9. Congrats on your first ski!!! It's a beauty fish. I'll never forget feeling that first hit either...it's an adrenaline rush for sure! Edit: My first targeted ski that is...caught a tiny one throwing a crank bait for pike on Nipissing before targeting them.
  10. I kept a log that was updated with frequency for big walleye that I catch in the fall. It was found that low pressure was best...or low trending pressure, but other factors were important too. Water conditions, wind direction etc...
  11. Non stop lightning and thunder in Whitby...here it comes! Thunderstorm warning and tornado watch...
  12. Durham region under sever thunderstorm warning now...wind was picking up here...calm now.
  13. LOL Lew...I remember that picture!! Ehg has it...mammatus clouds...some call them bulbous because of their shape. Batten down the hatches folks!! Upgraded to Tornado warning in Stratford, Mitchell, Southern Perth county, Goderich, Bluewater, Southern Huron County, Listowel - Milverton - Northern Perth County, Wingham - Blyth - Northern Huron County, Watford - Pinery Park - Eastern Lambton County, trathroy - Komoka - Western Middlesex County, London - Parkhill - Eastern Middlesex County,Hanover - Dundalk - Southern Grey County,Saugeen Shores - Kincardine - Southern Bruce County
  14. I'm somewhat a weather buff and I agree, I haven't seen a Tornado watch that covers such a vast area. Batten down the hatches just in case everyone!
  15. Tornado watch extended eastward now includes Toronto, Durham, Kawarthas, Bancroft, Belleville, Quinte. Grey Bruce now has upgraded to severe thunderstorm warning. Keep your eyes on the skies if you are out there! If you are on the water and are reading the board with a smartphone, click on this link and your browser will open to environment canada's radar site... http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/radar/index_e.html?id=WKR Link to weather watches and warnings... http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/warnings/warnings_e.html
  16. When viewing the picture in imageshack, click on "embed this image". Copy the code beside where it says "Forum" and paste it directly into your report... Amazing report!! I just returned from Alberta a few weeks ago myself and loved it there! This is one is my favourite pic! Looked like a GREAT time...amazing looking fish...and congrats on landing new species!
  17. Thanks for the heads up! Interesting that they'd go straight to the tornado watch instead of a severe thunderstorm watch first. They generally look at storm cells with rotation and a hook before issuing tornado watches and warnings. The system hasn't even developed yet...they are "expecting" it to this afternoon as a cold front sweeps through.
  18. Sending thoughts your way Mike! I've been there with my dad as well, and it sounds like your dad is fighting it with everything he has just like my dad did! You will be extra grateful for that day on the water you had..the memories of that day will never leave you. Keep positive and hopefully good things will happen.
  19. I'd be up for a meet and greet there!!!
  20. He's updated his thread he started earlier today... http://ontariofishingcommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=56337
  21. Way to go Ron!!!!! Congrats! You are a real asset to this board and the fishing community as a whole. Thank you for all you are doing.
  22. If you do the trophy thing, take pics and update us on the tournament!!!
  23. We chatted a while ago about all the jobs you have had throughout your life. There always seemed to be a common thread through it all. Whether guiding up north or on the road selling things it seemed what you were looking for was something you could be proud of, where you felt appreciated you were motivated to put the extra mile in. Working with people and enjoying yourself...as long as it paid the bills. I tend to agree with some on here, that you wont stop working compeltely...find something part time you can really enjoy...and spend a lot of time with family. (and getting out fishing more!). One thing about you though, opportunities will come your way...you can pick and choose what you want to do with your time now! You definitely deserve it!
  24. If this is something that will become tradition, why not get a trophy with a name plate on it that can be added to each year? Winner keeps the trophy all year and brings it back the next year? Call it bragging rights! Loser(s) pays for the engraving!
