  1. I use 20 and 30 lb power pro....and I have never had a problem.
  2. I currently use a 30lb Minn Kota transom mount...one that I used with our canoe. It ROCKED in the canoe and is fine on very calm days in my 14 foot tinny. If I had the cash I'd be getting me a 45 lb thrust.
  3. Use the Palomar Knot.... http://www.animatedknots.com/palomar/index.php
  4. Wow...you guys had a great night/morning out there! Congrats on a successful outing. That mirror carp is quite the specimen!! I wouldn't go as far as say it was nice looking, but it's a hell of a lot less ugly....LOL.
  5. LOL.... Poor Mike.... HAHAHAHAHA
  6. When we know we are bringing our 6 year old with us, then weather does play into it. A cranky 6 year old just wont do out on the water....LOL. If it was just Bly and I, the cold / wet doesn't deter us.
  7. Great report Johnny! You need friends who will fish in bad weather though....LOL. At least you got out there, figured out your fishfinder and caught a bunch of fish. Despite the weather, you did pretty good out there in my books!
  8. I read your other post, and if all you are going for is panfish from shore then it's fine. I started out with a stick I found on the ground, fishing line, a bobber and a hook and fished from docks as a kid. If you start targeting and hooking into larger fish, you'll want to invest in a better setup....because once they are big enough to pull drag, you'll want a reel that can handle it and a longer rod to keep tension on the fish as you are bringing it in.
  9. Frozen hands this late in May....it's just not right I tell ya!!! Some nasty looking weather by the looks of your pics there. At least you got into a few....congrats out there despite the conditions!
  10. Great stuff!! Always nice to have a surprise like that!
  11. Ok Mike...I have to admit, I was laughing right out loud at the prop thing....LOL. Great report as always...they are always a pleasure to read! Despite the weather, you guys had a trip to remember that's for sure. Thanks for posting!
  12. Great report! Will is truly a classy guy and we are lucky to have him in our community!! Glad to hear all went well...and that you caught a few fish along the way.
  13. Hey JAson.....love the tent...but my fav pic is that fashionable one of you with the mosquito gear on....LOL. Don't forget your OFC sign for the tourney bud!!! Have a fantastic trip...one of these years I'll make it up there with you guys!
  14. Great report EHG! Even though the numbers were not there, it still feels pretty good getting out there, doing your scouting and being successful! Pretty fish...thanks for the pics!
  15. So...what separates the smart guys from the dumb ones? LOL. Back in my younger days, I didn't care how cold it got....always had a great time and a story or two to tell....but not on this family oriented site....hehe.
  16. Man oh man...what a report! Even when the fishing is tough, I'm still glued to every single word. Congrats on your PB walleye....a monster for sure! I could see memoirs of your journeys in a book one day....and being on the best sellers list..... The trips you get to go on...are ones I can only dream about. Thanks for taking the time on this one!
  17. Nice work! Glad to hear the winds/weather cooperated with you out there. Hope the keepers tasted great on the dinner table!
  18. Oh man....very sorry to hear news like this. Condolences to you and your family....and all her friends as well.
  19. I believe he means his elbow, shoulder, knee and hip joints....not where he fishes.
  20. Everyone FREEZES their butts off at least ONCE on the May 24 weekend. The good thing is that the alcohol in your bloodstream acts like antifreeze in your system.... The first time this happens is when you are about 16 or 17 and you are camping for the first time without family and with your friends. Smart ones will get sites with electricity and buy heaters for future years. Not-so-smart ones like me go the next year and swear that next year you'll bring one. Then finally, once you hit your mid 20's, camping on that weekend doesn't happen anymore..... Anyone else follow a pattern similar??? LOL.
  21. Great report! Looks like you had little company out there with you too. Some huge smallies there....good call noticing what they were feeding on too. It's always great when a plan comes together. Oh yeah...I'm sure you're little one will keep on fishing with you...just keep getting her fishing related toys, like this one as she gets older. My little one got this one yesterday. Cost a whole dollar!! LOL
  22. Wow...not sure if that's pretty cool or scary? Maybe both! I remember OFC member Entropy talking about cougar sightings around Lake Scugog last year, so I wouldn't be surprised if you are seeing them up on Sturgeon.
  23. Hehe...thanks...I was telling Big Cliff that some people think we eggagerate her interest in fishing, but once she was out of her bath, she asked when we were going to the dock to catch a walleye....LOL. We're pretty fortunate...she is a pretty well behaved daughter...and doesn't mind being out in a boat for 6 or more hours!! That bodes well for us this summer....hehe.
  24. Thanks Joey...LOL about the cursing the motor....she enjoys listening to her tunes while fishing now that she has an iPod....hehe.
  25. Yeah...it was a great day! If you ever need someone to help you land those muskies just let me know!! I can be up there in just over an hour....LOL.
