  1. In all fairness then... Slowpoke should petition the captains to remove the OFAH bonus points from the tourney. It's only an OFC spam mission anyhow and would make the tourney a bit fairer.. if that's a word!
  2. Temagami... I could handle that right now! I wonder how long my grass is..... Thanks for posting Governator... gives me hope !
  3. If it wasn't for downrigging.. muskie fishing.. ice fishing... I could live with my 6'6 Berkley lightning rod and cardinal reel and my 6' "LeBaron Special" bait caster with ABU Mag III reel for everything else. Anyone of vintage around here knows that the "LeBaron Special" is a Berkley lightning rod in gloss black.. circa 1983.. and they sold at HALF the price of the lightning rod that back then sold at $149 (when Spar Aerospace was hiring at $5 an hour to work on the Canada Arm!!) Bought both rods in that time frame and still use them both as my main rods to date.
  4. VERY nice Al... just something right about that colour boat hunting that species!!
  5. Thanks folks! This started out as a "big shoulder" for me, but as time has gone on it appears it's been a very valuable 2 way street. I have had a fair number of members share their cancer battles with me during this time period, including JohnF. As recently as last night a board member shared their/their family cancer story with me and the battle that they have ahead of them. He told me that seeing Jennifer's attitude, through her battle, has given his wife the inspiration to fight hers. That right there makes this expanse of bandwidth worth while!
  6. BTW.. for those generous folks here that wrote cheques, remember to check you bank balances since it's been so long since some of you wrote them! They were just turned in today and will most likely be cashed early this week. THANKS!
  7. You had to eh... how am I gonna sleep tonight now?
  8. Bring your 9 for the bow of my boat Bill ! But at the rear I'm good with my 6'8"
  9. We'll see where we're at here Dan.. and keep it in mind! Bad time of year for X country.. will have to do it via Hearst/Geralton this time as I'm not sleeping on the Marathon terminal floor again....
  10. Can't wait to get there again... just no 4 foot waves to try to die in landing this round...
  11. Well that's pretty boring Jon... I thought maybe you pulled my neighbour Doug's trick and pulled the Grumpy old men routine with the motor kicking off the transom and going for a run down the lake !
  12. Ahhh Point Au Baril.. there should still be a 120 volt recepticle inside (behind the access cover) on the 2nd light post of the docks right where the river comes out!! Forget what year it was when I hooked that up live, but about 20 years ago when Leah and I headed to Manitoulin in the Tempest. A nice fish there fella and a wonderful meal I'm sure!
  13. "DAY".. LOL... he'll be on it for weeks and weeks. I guess the bonus for me... if he doesn't kill it.... then it means I have my machine back on line with a skidder winch on the back for fall wood cutting, and I'm gonna start by taking oaks and maples from his property!!!!
  14. Yah.. when they shoot liquid flames you have to wonder if Terry or Lloyd have been near the "refill station"....
  15. Thank God you're not on the bomb squad...... Normal.. condensation is all.
  16. Lake of Two Rivers is a nice campground and has a nice sand beach for him to swim. Also where I launched my porta-bote years back. If I remember correctly I caught a few bass along the South shoreline. Not a huge lake... but perfect for a safe 2 or 3 hour troll around it's perimeter with the lad.
  17. Yah... there's gotta be a glass or two of scotch left in Etobicoke Jon !
  18. Probably the most sensible way of looking at it !!
  19. "Gifting" is just a way around paying the added expense of land transfer taxes. If there is a group of family members that can divy in to cover a fair value for the place, to the satisfaction of the majority, it may be worth looking into. I was recently told by my lawyer that the "must live in it for a year" to be principal residence is no longer fact. As long as you attend the residence "from time to time" you can sell any property you own as "principal" residence. A huge improvement to days of old, now that most water front cottages are worth more than your actual permanant residence.
  20. A great weekend Nick ! I don't want to over step my bounds here.. but before it's too late get your parents to discuss ownership transfer with your grandparents. Sticky part is who has the funds available to cover the tax on capital gain.. but it can be gifted for $2's to your parents or any blood line prior to death and you also won't have to pay any land transfer taxes. The current owner will be on the hook for taxes on 50% of the captial gain from original cost + improvements to date against the assessed value, unless they can manage to escape via principal residence status. After they pass.... it's gonna get tied up in estate value, probate and a tax mess. Better now then then.
  21. LOL Chris... only one cut on my right hand! Another long day... prior to working on getting the plug out, it would start on 2 cylinders. After all the welding on the exhaust yesterday I couldn't get it to start today and figured maybe the condensor finally packed it in as am definitely fighting a spark issue as well. Thought for giggles I'd do a compression test on the old beast... center cyl 95 psi.. front 32.. rear ZERO ! DANG.. did I burn a hole in the piston.. couldn't have as it was pumping air when I cranked it to blow any last crap out yesterday. I looked in with a flash light today and saw what I though was melted aluminum... DAMN I did burn a hole in it, but no it can't be.. no way. Compression test again... ZERO..HMMMM. So I'm thinking.. maybe I did burn a small hole in the piston and just can't see it, so I put a 1/4 quart of oil in on top of the piston to see if it would drain thru into the case. It did not. So now I'm thinking the only way to get ZERO is a valve must be stuck open, so I vacuumed out the oil and took the rocker cover off and I find the exhaust push rod sitting beside the rocker arm. How did that happen??.... I guess while welding the exhaust enough slag went in the exhaust port and collected on an open valve face and this was what I saw reflecting off the piston top when I shawn the light in that looked like melted alum. So the valve stayed open.. and the push rod fell out of the rocker. Got it all fixed up and still had ZERO. Gave the valve a few wacks and it crumbled what ever was left in there and I suddenly had 95psi on that one toooo !! More investigating and I found no clearance on the front exhaust rocker arm. Once I backed that off and gave it a little lash the front cylinder jumped from 32 to 95 as well ! Amazed that valve hasn't burnt right off... with it sitting open a tad for all these years. Exhaust all welded up, new muffler installed that I've had sitting in the shop for a decade and it purrs! Only question remains is why I'm doing this just so my son can use it. It's never ran this good in all the time I've owned it (since 1995!). Oh yah, at 28 years old... I'm tired of excuses as to why he hasn't started his house build next door..... Hard for a guy like me to understand, as I left home at 17 and was on his 3rd home by that age.
  22. Nice to see the duo out and about!!! It wouldn't be a fishing trip with Paul without some comedy.....
