Sent an email to OPA. (it appears below) +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++= From : xxxx Ontario CECO <[email protected]> Sent : March 20, 2007 1:16:02 PM To : xxxx Subject : RE: CFL bulbs | | | Inbox Good Afternoon Mr. xxxx, Thank you for your interest in contributing to the province's culture of conservation. We are launching the Every Kilowatt Counts coupon program once again this Spring. A 12-page booklet will be mailed to approximately 4.3 million Ontario households. The booklet will contain information, education and tips about how to conserve electricity. This booklet will also include instant discount coupons, which will be valid at participating retail stores throughout the province. Making the right choice on which bulbs you should replace will maximize your savings. For maximum energy savings, consider purchasing CFLs for every possible application. At a minimum, replace bulbs that you use the most. As well you should look for the ENERGY STAR symbol for the most energy efficient choices. They can be installed indoors or outdoors. The package will tell you where the CFL can be used. You'll find CFLs to fit almost all fixtures, from ceiling units to standing lamps. A good idea is to start installing CFLs in areas where lights are on longest, such as the kitchen, family room and outdoors. Many people install CFLs in hard-to-reach areas because they don't have to be changed as often. Here I have attached a guide for replacing your bulbs and a cost comparison chart for your personal information. Guide for replacing an incandescent bulb with a CFL Equivalent light output Incandescent Compact fluorescent 25 W 5-6 W 40 W 10 W 60 W 15W 75 W 20W 100 W 29W 150 W 38W Important Note: CFLs contain mercury. When the bulbs do finally burn out, check with your local municipality for proper disposal. Calculate the real cost Compare the real cost of a 60-watt incandescent light bulb with a 15-watt ENERGY STAR qualified CFL. See for yourself how a CFL will recover your costs and more through energy savings. Real-Cost Calculator 60-Watt Incandescent 15-Watt ENERGY STAR Qualified CFL Initial cost (a) 50¢ $6.99 Light output (lumens) 800 800 Life (hours) 1000 9000 Replacement light bulbs ( 8 @ 50¢ = $4.00 – Lifetime electricity cost © 9000 hrs. @ 60 W 9000 hrs. @ 15 W @ 8¢/kWh = $43.20 @ 8¢/kWh = $10.80 Total lifetime cost (a + b + c) $47.70 $17.79 Lifetime savings – $29.91 Note: This table is provided as a guide only. It also does not take into account the crossover effect of heat generated by incandescent lighting. We would once again like to thank you for your interest in conservation, should you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us. Regards, xxxx -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: xxxx Sent: Tue 20/03/2007 12:52 PM To: xxxx- Ontario CECO Subject: CFL bulbs I would like to buy some ultra mini C.F.L.'s but at $4 a bulb I can not afford them. Last fall I bought some and use an instant rebate coupon. Is there anyway to buy them at a lower or reduced price. Thanks. xxxx

So, I have in vested about $100 in CFL (compact florescent light) bulbs. I have got them in every light in the house. #1 My Brother-in-law says that he heard they may actually use more power than they say they do... something along the line of using the current and stepping it up or down or something .... says that if the bulbs power ????? (can’t recall the work) is below 0.6 or 0.5 then the bulb is not all that efficient. DOES THIS MAKE SENSE, can anyone corroborate this? #2 I heard on the radio that some bulbs when they burn out actually burn on the base and may emit a burning smell, and that the “fire marshal” is investigating the safety of these bulbs and the possibility that they may cause a fire (even thought there been no documented cases of this in Ontario yet). Then in the same radio blurb, they said that they should only be used in ‘open’ fixtures because they get hot. What the Heck !! 1/3 of mine are in flush mount light fixtures, ie, not open. Don’t the old incandescent get hotter ??? Needless to say I’m feeling a little frustrated. Any Insight? Entropy

Wow, where did that walleye come from? -
When do you take the boat out? Just checked my records, took the boat out of storage on April 9th last year. Started it, and changed the plugs. April 17th was the first day out, wife and I headed to Simcoe, did well for Perch. Sometime between the 9th and the 17th I had the boat out for a good run up the Scugog River. (Might have been on the 9th. Not sure). When do you usually do this? Entropy 30 Days till she comes out !!

I still have not put the moth balls in the boat .... not even done winterizing. Oh well, first week of April and she comes out!! that's only 4 weeks away. We've got some warming up to do!

Wouldn't be with a woman who didn't ( come with me that is you know what I mean ). -
Well ... some day. I remember my Grandmother, said all she had left were her memories.... I guess its not who has the most toys at the end, but what you have to reflect on .... Often spoke about a duck plucking contest she and her girlfriend won, back in the day .. Make many good memories; reflect often. Sorry to put a spin on it like this, but looking at your photo's .... Now that's living !! Entropy

If you can take it out for a quick rip, might have problems under load at higher rpm's. That's not fun to find out after you have bought it. Entropy

Now we know, and knowing is half the battle.

Feed the birds. No. End up getting to much weeds and 'stuff' growing in the lawn from the seed, and the birds 'pooping' there. [yes there are seeds in that too]. I am on a Quest for the perfect lawn this summer. When I have a kid, I could see us having a couple of feeders. Entropy

Well, I’ve got March 9th to March 18th off. I know, I know, must be nice eh. Only problem, my wife and I have ‘some’ time on our hands, but very little cash. We want to head to North Bay or Temagami, to spend a night or two, and do some fishing. I guess I’m looking for some suggestions as far as where to fish (walking or driving out), and where to stay (for about $50 a night). Sounds tight and it is. [Need work on our well system, and gas tank & fuel pump in the truck] We have made this kind of trip happen before. Total budget, is $200 for gas, food, and lodging. If you live in North Bay or Temagami area, I’d appreciate any ideas, suggestions, phone numbers, names of motels, etc. Entropy

Ya, here in Ajax it was very nice out 1/2 hr ago, starting to cloud over, guess, I'll fire up the chain saw when I get home and help myself to some firewood.

Helped to motorists yesterday. One wrapped his truck around a hydro pole, other put her car in the ditch. This morning, I drove 2 m way from a downed hydro pole, plow went beside it, I figured it would be ok, down the road found out it was 'live'. (better not do that next time, just incase) Also, gave a farmer a ride to his house, had got his plow truck stuck twice, and his tractor was stuck in another driveway. Was walking to get 'the big one'. Lost power last night, wife is at home keeping warm with the wood stove. Not many people at work, I should have stayed home too. Roads weren't that bad though. You making out ok? Entropy

just cause it smells bad doesn't mean you shouldn't eat it.

So, I'm sitting here with my 'agenda' scheduling stuff, including dates of openers and when and where to go fishing. The problem is, do I trust that the new regs will not be out until mid summer and schedule using the 2006 openers, or keep waiting until the 2007 regs come out? How does Tuxbury's do it, they have a calendar for the whole year out already. Thoughts, Entropy

I had a 'pro' come over, yes it is an 'air bleed off' valve which is supposed to be on top of a contact tank. There is an air injector on the line between the pump and the tank. The company said a new fiberglass pressure tank installed is $500, and that includes new line to and from with joints and valves. For me to do it will cost $250, and if something goes wrong in the middle of the night, I've got problems. For $500 it is warantied for 5 years, and it is their problem. I think I will go with this route. He also said that there is an "iron bacteria" in the well, lines, and equipment. Said I should treat with Purox, I'm going to do this next week. Thanks
