  1. Does anyone have any experience with dealing with these beetles. I am in Woodbridge and they invaded my grape vine. About 50% of the leaves have been chewed and skeletonized before I noticed what was happening.

Last night I spent 2 hours picking them off my vines and have no doubt there are going to be more when I get back home tonight.

    Any ideas?

Online they say that picking them off works best and using the beetle traps that they sell at Home Depot which gives off an attractant scent is actually a bad thing because it will attract beetles from all over the neighbourhood into my backyard and make things worse.

  2. Anyone know the cottage in question or have a picture of it?

I have rented a cottage on Chemong Lake a few years ago and am interested to see a picture of the cottage this occurred in.

    Here is the article....

Charges laid after hidden cameras recorded people using cottage

Chemong Lake cottage had cameras located inside and outside property

(BUCKHORN) A 39-year-old Toronto man is facing voyeurism charges after a cottage rental party had cameras recording the activities of clients inside.

According to Peterborough County OPP, on May 5 officers responded to reports of a voyeurism incident at a Chemong Lake address.

OPP say the owner of a cottage on the lake, south of Buckhorn, rented the property out. He had security cameras mounted both outside and throughout the interior of the building, OPP say, and the cameras were connected to a DVR (digital video recorder), which recorded the activities of anyone renting the property.

OPP were contacted when someone renting the cottage discovered the cameras.

Derek C. James is charged with voyeurism and mischief by interfering with the lawful use and enjoyment of property

  3. Really? That is too bad...was hoping the here and there reports I have heard the last couple of years of the fishing improving were a sign that things may have turned arouond.

I would hate to lug it all the way up there and catch nothing, expecially when I am used to fishing Lake Ontario and always hit fish.

  4. Has anyone fished the Collignwood area lately for salmon/trout or any other species?

I am heading up there for a few days and wondering if it is worth hauling the boat to do some fishing. Haven't fished there in 5 years and did not have much luck then and hoping for some current info on what species may be biting and how to get into them (depth/lure/speed...etc..).

I usually downrig out of Port Credit, so I have all the gear needed for Salmon/Trout but also wondering if there are any other species I could target while there (maybe pike/bass?).

Thanks and have a fun and safe long weekend!

Oh and by the way, I am selling my late mom's 2003 Ford Escape 4x4 which is in awesome condition and only 109,000 kms in the classified section if anyone is interested!

  5. I posted thinking that the answer might seem obvious but I have no idea how it works. I didn't know what the ratio of watt in the device that I want to power compared to the generator needed. Seems that I only need a 1000 watt generator then....thanks.

I will have to look around for a smaller generator.

  6. I want to power a jumping castle air fan at a park and wanted to know if the 3000 watt generator at Costco.can would work.

The generator is the champion 3000 watt. The fan says 750 watt, 5.4amp, 60hz.

Think it will work? Any thoughts on this generator which is about $100 less in the store than online?

    Thanks

  7. A huge thanks to Paul at Top Gun Marine! What a great guy. It was worth the extra drive to bring it there. He got my boat fixed in less than a week - and that is saying a lot since this is May! I am sure it helped that Tybo diagnosed the issue for me - bad stator. (Thanks again Tybo!)

Regardless, the quick turnaround was greatly appreciated!

  8. okay, so i lined up an appointment with Top Gun Marine for this Saturday...they were very nice to agree to have me drop off my boat this weekend...hopefully they turn it around quickly as i,d like to get out soon.

thanks again for everyones help and advice.

  9. Just wanted to thank Tybo for his help today. While we didn't get the boat started, he did diagnose a bad/cracked stator (spelling?). Anyway, I plan to call Top Gun Marine tomorrow to see when I could bring it up for them to repair it. Thanks to everyone for their input and especially Tybo for taking the time to help out a fellow member.

  10. It is a 1992 merc 40 hp, manual choke, just above the electronic ket starter (sorry I am not mechanically versed). The choke is a lever that is above the key.

Some other notes: I hear a click when I push the key in to start, so I know that works (I think it is the enricher). The fuel is new, I ran stabilizer and fogged the engine last fall). The ball is hard when I pump it on the fuel line.

  11. Hi Roy, it ran great until I winterized it last fall. So, yesterday after a few hours of not being able to get it to start, I decided to change the spark plugs. A minute later, it fired right up and I let it run afor a few minutes and thought great, it worked. But then when I shut it off and took off the plugs to see if they were dirty (which they really were not, I put them back in). It hasn't started again since. i fiddled with the plugs on and off but still nothing. Could it be I put them in too tight or too loose?

  12. The annual spring ritual of hoping my boat starts after the winter is upon me

and this year, it won't. It cranks but just won't start.

So, now of course that is all I have been consumed with since yesterday and now I have given up and need to hand it over to the pros. Has anyone used BassPro mechanical services? Do you drive up an drop off, or do you need an appointment? I am waiting until 10am to give them a call but thought I would ask here first.

  13. After speaking to my dad about the Lottery and that he is not on the hook for the money, he said he may just buy the tickets next year (as long as he receioves them), but now after hearing that the Lottery is really losing money, I may have him reconsider.

So, I reviewed the 88 page report as Chris suggested but cannot locate anything about the profit/loss of the Lottery specifically. The only thing I do see is the net fundraising for 2011 was $136,254 on the financial statements (but this appears to be for all fundrasing activities). A breakdown of each fundrasing event would be more telling. The report does also say 413,000 tickets were sold but, again, no breakdown of the expenses.

Also, if you are raising close to $800,000 in ticket sales for the Lottery (I believe it is $2 each ticket), how can the net fundraising amount only be $136,254 for ALL fundraising activities (and there are a few of them)?

I'd be curious for the actual numbers. Chessy, can you not post the line by line numbers of what you have from Rev Canada?

  14. Below is my email and the reply I got...makes me wonder how she "marked" my account not to send tickets in the future when it was my dad's account I was referring to and I never provided his info. Seems like a form email. I will have to send her a follow-up but at least I got a quick reply!

    Good Morning,

I understand you are not wanting to participate in our fund raiser with buying lottery tickets and I have marked not to send in future. This is totally a volunteer option.

As we are a nonprofit organization we depend on these fundraisers to help us do the conservation we are involved in.

I apologize for the inconvenience has caused and we appreciate you as a member.

    Cathy

    Hi Cathy,

My dad recently signed up for an OFAH membership. He now received a letter in the mail saying that the OFAH recently sent him lottery tickets to sell and requested that he either return the unsold tickets or send the money. Problem is that he never got the tickets.

Did he agree to do this to begin with when he signed up? How can you impose this on your members without obtaining agreement first?

My dad tends to over-react and I can tell you his first words were - don't renew my membership next year. He is old school and hates the thought of someone going after him for money - even though I assured him that your organization cannot possibly force this on him.

Could you get back to me ASAP?

    Thanks,

I will be emailing the contact on this recent letter he got to tell them.
