  1. Thanks for your reply.

This is the unit I got...

    http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/2/OutdoorLiving/BBQs/NaturalGasBBQs/PRD~0853073P/Napoleon+Legend+RSIB+Natural+Gas+BBQ.jsp?locale=en

Could you confirm the above unit would only need a 1/2" pipe?

As for the gas fitter (if that is their professional name), I am not sure what their plan is (ie. they may in fact be tying into the cap in my basement with a hard pipe to the outside and then the rubber hose..but I will make sure they actually do that..thanks for that info.)

So in that case, I would say it is a 5 foot pipe to outside and then maybe another 10 foot hose from that point to the bbq (just in case I need to move it around for some reason).

  2. Hi John, thanks for the reply. it is a Napoleon with 4 burners (residential unit) that I bought at Canadian Tire.

Your suggestion of contacting the manufacturer is a good one and I am a little embarrassed that I did not think of that myself. I guess I was just too excited that I'd be grilling again after my propane bbq bit the dust over 2 months ago and never thought of that! I just tried their number and they are closed. Will give them a shout in the morning.

  3. Just bought a natural gas BBQ with 74000 btus and am getting different opinions on size of hose to run from the gas line to the BBQ.

One guy says with 74000 btus I should use 3/4 hose whereas another guy says 1/2 inch is fine . There is a significant difference in price ...anyone have any insight?

I want maximum heat output but don't want to go bigger on hose size if not needed

Also any idea of what should I expect to pay (the connection iwould be from my basement with a T on the man line already capped to be connected to thehose. He would need about 15 feet of hose from the cap to where the bbq would rest . he will need to drill to the outside (which is easily accessible).

    Thanks

  4. I am looking at buying a portable marine radio to use in case we get into any trouble while on the water. Most of the time we are on Lake Simcoe or Lake Ontario, but occassionally on some other smaller lakes in Ontario. Right now I count on my cell phone but that wouldn't work if we got swamped or some other accident that would cause it to get wet.

I figure I want floating and waterproof (obviously)...anything else that is a must?

Radioworld seems to be having a sale on some. Anyone have any recommendation on any? thanks

    Here is the radioworld link...

  5. Can you not work something out with a co-worker so that you work all the night shifts for say 2 or 3 months, and your co-worker works the day shift? And then switch. Obviously the company would need to be on board with it...Maybe it would be something you can look into after being there a few months...

If it were me, I would prefer to have a set schedule for a longer period of time instead of constantly switching it up.

  6. Yep, pretty cool eh?

I was trolling eyes one time, hooked into a pike, broke me off. Re-tied the same lure on, trolled by that spot again, and hooked the same fish. Got my lure back :thumbsup_anim:

Another time, jigging for eyes with minnows in the fall. My buddy sets the hook, has good weight, then snap.....gone. I dropped my jig down, thump, fish on. His jig was in the fishes mouth. He wasn't too impressed :whistling::w00t:

    S.

Reminds me of when I was younger and we used to go jigging in bars and I'd see my friend jigging with the same fish I had jigged with earlier....he too wasn't impressed when I told him.

Mind you I wasn't too impressed either when it was the other way around...

  7. I made a automatic door on a timer using 2 12 volt supplies, a timer, and an electric retractable car antenna.

It is used on a chicken coop to slide open and closed an opening. Opens in the morning and closed in the evening (all on a timer).

You can google this set up for chickens and get a visual/diagrams for what you need. But it may cost a few bucks unless you can get used equipment.

  8. if its the throttle control, i'd imagine its a cable and not a wire? didnt you get an estimate from the shop before you ok'd the work? i think an hr or two in labour plus whatever the part costs is somewhat reasonable.

I was stuck and had a marine mechanic come by the cottage we were staying at for the week and he end up putting in a new cable for $200 all-in. Very reasonable especially since it was a Sunday and his day off and I didn't even have to bring it in. Thanks for the replies.

  9. We are thinking of heading to Sandbanks one day this weekend but never been there before and do not know where to go (I hear there are different areas).

I have 2 young children (9 and 5), and want to spoend the day there and preferably in an area where we can grab something to eat and be able to swim. Any suggestions where to go and what to expect?

    Thanks

  10. We did that for years and never had an issue. Run a clip on roap from each side to act like the 1960's rear ski bar would then clip the tube to that roap and have fun.

    Thanks for the reply.

I did buy a supplementary rope that forms like a "V" so that the tube is essentially connected to both handles via this extra rope (so it should divide the stress equally to both sides of the boat).

  11. I bought a small tube to pull my kids around the lake for some fun - they are young, so not too heavy (coombined 100 pounds) and I wouldn't be going fast either.

My question is, can I tow the tube using the two metal handles that are formed into the top of the corners of the transom or do you think that could cause damage to the boat?

I have a 1992 16 foot starcraft that is solid, and does not leak or have any issues, so I wouldn't want to create any.

    Thanks!

  12. Just had solmeone come by last night and was highly recommended by a friend. Getting a 2.5 ton Goodman AC unit for $1800 plus tax (includes install). I read up on some reviews and Goodman is owned by Amana and as with anything, there were some good and some bad review - in this case, there were many more good reviews than bad.

    Anyone have experience with them?

  13. After buying 2 traps last night from Home Depot BUT just before setting them out, I read from numerous sites that putting out these scented traps is a big mistake. It actually attracts beetles from your neighbourhood to head to your backyard and while you will get some/most to die in the trap, some will just use the garden as a buffet and you may end up making the matter worse (currently the beetles are on my grapes and no where else, so I would hate to have others come and attack my other plants).

To prove how effective it is in bringing these beetles in, check out this video...crazy the amount of beetles the trap can attract.

So, I just went out during lunch and bought some Bug B Gone as suggested by another poster and will try that tonight.

  14. Well sorry but they do bite, you might not be sweet enough for them.:thumbsup_anim: I have been bite so I know. might not be common but they do

I guess you may be right...my statement was based on the fact that they did not bite me even though I literally picked up over 200 of them with my bare hands and at times, struggled to loosen them off their grip on the leaves.

  15. They do not bite. I picked up at least 200-300 of them last night with my bare hand and the only thing they did was dig in with their prickly legs (likely designed to help them hold on to the leaves when shaken/disturbed).

I even had one crawling on my back which I only noticed when I went inside to take a shower.

  16. Do you recall the brand of grub killer that you used? Is it powdered or liquid?

I am willing to try anything - my vine is over 10 years old and loaded with grapes and I would hate to lose it to these bugs.

I am in Woodbridge and have been here for over 12 years and never seen them before...hope this is not going to be an annual event!
