  1. It goes without saying that 10" crappies would be deadly for bait LOL! (But I don't think it's legal in most places )
  2. Assuming it's walleye you're after? If it is I can personally recommend the following. All are in your driving range more or less: http://www.rayscamps.com/ http://www.quebec-outfitters.net/deerhorn/index.htm http://www.ladyevelynlakewalleye.com/index.html http://www.horwoodlakelodge.com/
  3. Can any of you regular Simcoe fishers recommend a particular outfitter for whitefish? Just wondering 'cause otherwise it's pretty much a guessing game. They all say they've got their huts on whitefish, but some areas are better than others... If anyone can help I'd much prefer a pm.. Thanks guys!
  4. Well done Steve! Congrat's to the g/f that was a beauty fish.
  5. Shoot troutologist a pm he's in the Soo...(and a great guy I might add )
  6. Pretty much the same as you bud except it's 10 and 20lb powerpro on my jigging rods along with a fluoro leader. 20lb powerpro on my polar tip ups and 9lb Tectan mono along with a fluoro leader on my dead sticking rods. For pannies I run 4lb clear XL on my micro reels...
  7. A true testament to how easy these fish really are to catch, especially with a float or as I like to call it THE GREAT EQUALIZER.
  8. A pricey reel won't help you catch anymore fish. To improve the performance of your current reel de-grease the bearings by soaking them in kerosene then once re-installed put a drop of sewing machine oil on them (it's got to be sewing machine oil). You can also go whole hog and order a set of ceramic bearings for your reel, they're very smooth. As far as which reel to buy, an Islander is the obvious choice and would be a big upgrade over what you're already running. They're not overly expensive and are very reliable. Beyond that for a bit more money I'd get one of the new 5" Kingpins, they're a great reel. If you want one of them shoot me a pm as I've got a cheaper source... Sometimes if the center screw is too tight it slows down the reel. To remedy this remove the screw and screw it back in with a small chunk of 4lb test wrapped around it. The line will allow the screw to stay tight and in place without cranking down on it. Whatever tag end is left sticking out trim it off...
  9. Definitely a grunt followed by some hyperventilating, then "watch out she's coming your way!"
  10. Incredible! Did you put a tape on her? Beauty fish regardless...
  11. Danbo, sorry bud, but you're wrong on so many levels I felt compelled to reply. You never want your float ahead of your bait dragging it along behind it. This will cause your bait to drift faster than the currents speed. Slowing down or "trotting" your float will not cause missed strikes. In fact the opposite is true LOL! Having said that I rarely trot my float. Dead drift for me 90% of the time.
  12. Another great report, once again well done!
  13. Interesting website, on the link for using the product for northerns they mention using 10" crappie for bait LOL! Anyhow, is there any way to rig that thing with your bail open so that the fish can run when your rod pops up? Maybe with an elastic band ? Might work better...
  14. That's awesome man! You're right, that fish was a pig!!
  15. They work well everywhere. Sometimes they'll hit one with large sweeping jigs, but I've personally had my best luck kind of swimming them around the hole with the odd little twitch.
  16. That pic of the hot chocolate is pretty cool! Looks like a fantastic day Joey .
  17. Hilarious, you have a gift that's for sure! Brought back flashbacks from (....shudder....) one of my trips last fall: A brave local took it upon himself to free the beast from my line: Moments after that pic was snapped the creature wrestled free and launched itself at my face. I feel your pain. It was a......horrifying experience.
  18. Fantastic, you're a lucky man! And a big congrat's to the both of you! Here's to a healthy happy new arrival!
  19. The Bad Boyz were $6.99 I believe, so not cheap. Blue Fox Lil' Foxee was $4.99. Here's what the Blue Fox lures look like. You can get them with dressed or undressed hooks. These ones are dressed: In comparison here's a few of the Bad Boyz. (Tip them with a micro tube):
  20. Fishing World in Hamilton has tons (just picked up a bunch myself this morning ). http://fishingworld.ca/index.php?option=co...ge&Itemid=1 I'm sure if you gave them a call they'd ship some out to you. Also, check out the Blue Fox version they're pretty slick, readily available and cheaper.
  21. Well that's really the unspoken truth isn't it? Sad but true...
  22. aniceguy has done more for Ontarios steelhead fishery both politically and hands on than probably anyone. I can understand where your comments are coming from considering your background and what you do for a living. But the man is right. At the current rate of harvest the steelhead fishery is not sustainable. That's a fact. Here's what Lou wrote earlier. This statement is correct: "...Currently overall harvest is in the 30- 40 % range and to have a sustainable fishery it needs to be in the 15% range. The only way to actually accomplish this is to go Ny's route and go with a 1 fish slot size...going from 2 to 5 makes no dfifference what so ever". How can you possibly argue this point?
  23. 12 hour shifts would be awesome. Mine are 16 hours .
  24. Trust me you're not alone. My friend owns the site (which is the only reason I frequent it), and not being very computer savvy, had left the maintenance of the site in someone elses hands. This guy has done nothing for months.... Everything is in shambles including the registration of new members. Sit tight, hopefully things will be fixed.
