  1. Stating opinions, which is what was clearly done in the news paper. I wonder if anyone checked it for lead weights in the belly. And why has no one commented on the carp hitting a rapala dive-to lure? Did they actually take it to an official scale and more than one person verify it? Sounds like a fishing story that made the local paper if you ask me.
  2. Looks like you were fishing by where the coal comes from the ships right? (I've only been once but it was for 8 hours lol) Was anyone by where the water runs out?
  3. hahaha because media is full of facts right?
  4. Where did you find those stats? lol
  5. I bet he snagged it with that rapala lure. Or that carp isn't afraid of anything and attacks aggressively....
  6. I went in the fall of 09. The guy at the marina seemed pretty sure about it. He said their out of town business has pretty much died since then as they were the closest marina to the warm flow. I want someone else to chime in on this one.
  7. AFTER seven hours of fishing the hot water flow from the power plant the guy at the marina told us that they installed sonar to scare the fish away/keep people away from the rocks/docking on their property. I'd believe it since we didn't get a single bite, not even a goby. And it would also explain why we were the ONLY boat there trying to catch fish that weren't there. Was anyone catching anything?
  8. I'm going up there for a wedding in October at the lodge, but we are going to stay for 2 nights to enjoy some fishing as well! Haven't rented a boat from there before, if no one is bringing theirs up to the wedding then I may have to rent one!
  9. Good luck! I'm gonna post my report in the next couple of hours from my vacation. Stuck at work for now
  10. But you are still screwing a metal bolt into an epoxy/plastic thread. With my beefy hands I'll strip it 10 times faster than I could do that repair!
  11. Yes sir! Thanks again. I'll let you know how it goes tonight!
  12. You don't have to! I re-read your first post and I understand. You were showing me the wires so that I could re-connect them again! I always bust out the digital camera if I have to disconnect something and it goes in a special order (or not obvious) or I lay the parts in the order in which I removed them. Thanks again, I look forward to this little project! I as well stripped mine in my hand, I was so angry I wanted to just chuck it but I was smart enough to ask my friend to kindly place it in my fishing gear!
  13. Are we talking about the same part???
  14. Excellent. I read on several forums they send you the same part to replace it with... And even if I get the part back under warranty I think I'd rather do something like what you did. (since you have to take the head off the unit anyways) I don't understand why they make the part like that... Its obvious that you need metal on metal... All it takes is one or two twists with pressure on the wrong angle and shes a goner! I look forward to seeing your pictures! After I mow the lawn I'll have to get searching for a nut to fit the bolt and plug in the old soldering iron! That helicoil looks like it can get expensive to buy the entire kit (more than the entire replacement of the transom mount). I think the project will be fun, and at the end of the day if I totally screw it up I can just buy a new mount.....
  15. You can... I mean I "fixed" it with duct tape, but its a hack job. And the hose clamp would for sure qualify as a hack job. The main issue with that "fix" is when the boat is going with the engine the trolling motor will catch in the water and fly off to the end (possibly ripping off the controller)... Lots of adjustments to get it to operate safely that way. I'd rather do it right (and cheap).
  16. That's the only place I could find that sells the parts.... Anyone know of anything in Canada?
  17. $28 for the plastic replacement : $78 for the metal replacement : Not to mention taxes & shipping. I only paid 100$ for the motor & battery. I'm sure some other people have ideas too! But this helicoil looks like what I need.
  18. Will have to stop by on the way home... Haven't seen anything like this before. Thanks! I knew posting on here would get me more ideas!
  19. Well the topic is a bit misleading But I'm having an issue with my Minn Kota Trolling Motor. The mechanism that stops the shaft from going up and down has stripped, the bolt that's used for tightening it can just be pulled out by hand! I bought this used from someone, and I had it out on the water several times with no issues. Just happened this weekend when I was out on the water. I have no idea if its under warranty and I think Minn Kota has shut down till after the 4th... I figure I could buy a bigger bold to just re-thread it...? While I was out over the holiday I just used some duct tape on the bottom once I got it lined up... but it just looks like trash! (it did work however) Anyone else experienced this what did you do to fix it? (thanks in advance)
  20. Thanks! At least someone read my post...
  21. Nice fish and great report! Your opener was more productive than mine!
  22. Went out on the pond with Rob @ 6 AM. The weather looked like it could go either way with that red sky, but we were determined to ring in the opener either way. My 'new' trolling motor was running great and eventually got us into some fish. The day started off slow; casting the shore with spinners while covering lots of area with the trolling motor. Rob was shocked as the normal hot spots weren't producing as normal. We tried anchoring out from a fallen tree and we switched it up to senkos and texas rigged worms. Nothing. But that didn't stop us. Back to covering ground hitting the shore with spinner baits. Rob was on fire pulling out a nice 4.2 Lbs large mouth. I ended up going 6/8. 2 small mouth, 3 large mouth, and a big rock bass . I lost my biggest fish of the day early on, I wasn't keeping the line tight when the largies were jumping out of the water. Rob soon corrected me. He finished up the day 8/8. We were packed up and out of the water by noon. All and all it was a great opener. Anything beats working! Thanks again for the day out Rob. Insert fish porn : Now I'm looking forward to fishing parry sound Tuesday morning! Thanks for reading.
  23. Didn't they all start vacation last week? ....mine did at least.
  24. Where are you going? The Saturday specifically I will be hitting up a local pond in the Niagara Region, but more importantly over the holiday I will be fishing up Parry Sound!!! What baits do you plan on focusing on for the first few weeks? This will be my first year using anything other than worms and minnows. But I have the full arsenal lined up, and from what I've heard from the good fisherman its best to switch it up because you never know whats hot one day may not be the next. So last year my fishing arsenal consisted of a 20$ Walmart rod w/ the hooks and sinkers that came with it. Over the winter months I've probably spent a good couple hundred dollars on the following : A Plano box full of swim baits. A box full of spinners. A box full of spoons. A box full of tubes/soft plastics. A box full of top waters and some crank/jerk baits. Way too much terminal gear, and more fishing rods than I ever thought I would need. So lets just say I clearly caught the bass bug last summer! What baits do you plan on avoiding? Live baits. All last year I was only confident in live bait as that's all I had ever fished with (when I was much younger). But after getting tons of pike and OOS bass on lures and spinners I'm hoping that I will never go back to live bait! What aspects of bass fishing do you hope to improve on throughout the season? I really want to give top water a shot. I met up with Rich from these forums last season and after watching him get fish after fish top-water lures while I had no bites fishing with worms...Really gave me the itch to get into fishing and trying out all the different techniques. I blame OFC for making me spend so much money on fishing stuff! Hell I don't even eat fish... that's the one thing that makes people scratch their heads after making all these investments haha. Can't wait for bass!!! But I will have to.
  25. Irish is right. If the light is attached to your line or is the lure itself its legal!
