No problem. That $350 suit has to be a higher end suit. My concern with 2 piecers is that the legs will fill up with water quickly. Could be wrong though. That kind of deal is hard to pass up though. You definately won't find a 1 piece for near that. I suppose that as long as you know the conditions of the ice you are on, you should be fine, keeping in mind that accidents do happen. I don't do a lot of ice fishing, but there are many many people that go out with any floation what so ever, so you would be 1 up on those guys. 2 full suits for that price does indeed sound like a steal. One thing though, are they Canadian approved?

I wouldnt recommend a 2 piece for ice fishing, if that is what you guys are planning to do. It only provides ample room for additional water to get in that much faster. I love my one piece Helly Hanson. If it really is a great deal, then it is better than nothing, BUT if you look around, you can find good deals on 1 piecers. Just my 2 cents

Ok, so I'm heading to Ottawa in a few weeks for a mountain bike trip. It looks like I'm staying seconds from the Ottawa river...Brittania Bay I think it's called... Here's a map...green arrow is the street were staying at... http://maps.google.ca/maps?q=scrivens%20st...sa=N&tab=wl I won't have alot of time, so I would like to gather as much info as possible before I leave. What is anything can I catch casting from shore nearby? Any other areas I should check out close by? Thx Mike

Exactly right! Fort McMurray is an industrial town. The oil sand workers are paid HUGE DOLLARS!!! The company I work for opened a store up there a couple years ago, and has allready had to relocate to a MUCH larger location, and quickly became the number one store in a chain of 400+ stores nation wide! BIG bucks up there!!

I believe that the land is owned by a hunting group. They owned the land before it was flooded creating the lake. It is private property. I think that link was www.scugogheritage.com but the site is under maintainence.

We had our's replaced by Ultramar 9 or 10 years ago. I don't remember exact amounts, but it was expensive. You have to take into account that it's a big job that will require probably at least 4 installers. Then, you need another guy and truck to pump the remaining oil out of the tank, and to refill it when installation is complete. Multiply that by a full day's work = alot of money. Maybe not $1600 but I'm not so sure it's far off course.

I watched the movie, and loved it. BUT, like all his films, creative editing, and creative fact making win. After watching a show on CNN regarding the "made up" facts, I lost some respect for Moore, but then again, who's to say that CNN didn't make up theirs.

As the head chef, and head beer drinker of my household, I thought I'd pass along a couple things I've learned over the years making this... 1. Use an old pie plate underneath to catch drippings. 2. You can buy devices from Bass Pro, and CTC designed to hold the can, and the chicken that will prevent tipping over. 3. Try other liquids. White wine, Coke, rootbeer. I find ginger beer works fantastic, as does Sprite or 7 Up. 4. Leave the bird be! Don't poke it, don't move it, don't touch it. If you break the skin, you'll loose a lot of the juice. Keep an eye on the heat, and let the grill do the work for you!

I hear theres 1 or 2 mating pairs of bald eagles living along the Otanobee river. Something I'd like to see in person!

Yeah I agree Raf. It was recommended to me that I throw dub 10's with my Calcutta...which I will be doing... As for tinsel...it's not what material is tired on dub 10's, it's all in the blades
-
Hey Raf..are you talking Dub 10 bladed baits? If you are, I would recommend that lower gear ration. Lotsa torque to crank those babies in, and with the high amount of lift they have, you don't have to crank em in like crazy to keep em up. If you are talking just normal blades, but a large size body, then go with a higher gear ratio. Stupid question...have you tried your Cabo for throwing these baits? How did it perform? Mine will be getting wet for the first time tomorrow... Mike

First piking adventure ever.... success!
nofrills replied to frozen-fire's topic in General Discussion
I agree with Lew on this one. I have some 7 strand leaders, and they ripped apart while trolling a small-ish Believer. Won;t use them again. Flouro is nice, BUT I do have an issue with it. If they are crimped, I always find that if I'm working through weeds, they really collect in the crimp and destroy the action of the bait. There are a ton of weeds down there, so myself personally, I wouldn't use them. I normally use Berkley nylon coated wire leaders in 50# test for island piking, and haven't had an issue yet. As for you line being too heavy...thats a load of crap too. I have 50# PP in my Curado 200 for casting, and 30# PP on my Symetre for spinning applications, and never had a problem. As for it being hard on gear, I would wager that nearly every decent rod made these days are built to handle it...meaning that it won't damage your guides. -

Mike is a fantastic Musky fisherman, he really knows his stuff. You will definately have a great time, and prolly learn more in 1 day that most would in a lifetime! See if you can get him to do the Weagle dance for you
-
was it just me, or did it seem that some stores had jacked up their prices for some baits?

that 50+ pounder that was caught in Italy, is all ready making the rounds. Received it in my email twice last week. Same fish possibly.

I'd say Le Barons as well. Maybe take a look at Angling Specialties as well.
