  1. I usually give up and move on.. lol no fish teases me, I'll just get him next year
  2. Plenty of people who don't bring cameras catch 6 pound bass all the time! Heck, my buddy at work tells me all the time how he shot a 14 pounder in his back pond with a bow. What skills.
  3. If you like some incredible metal guitar check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5A3X1nk_sS4 BFMV greatest metal band ever!
  4. Stick tackle drawers in a backpack dude! I haven't bought a tackle box (besides trays) for 5 years!
  5. Leave the floats in the car, it's bottom bouncer time!
  6. Agreed with the others - pickerel cheeks are the "tenderloin" of the fish world! Nice 'eyes, certainly sounds like you had a great time. Glad also to see Thames pickerel numbers are getting better again.
  7. Well since my landing rate for salmonoids on the centrepin is about 0/50 I'd have to say the spinning gear lands them better.. but that could just be cuz I'm a noob to the pin.
  8. I bought a rubber coated Lucky Strike landing net with about a 12 ft handle when extended. It cost me 70 bucks I think, well worth every penny. No tangle ups in the rubber coating and seems to be easier on the fish. However, Sugarpacket hoisted a 25lb carp up with it this spring and bent the crap out of the handle. I bent it mostly back into shape but it takes a lot more strength now to extend the handle. That being said, I've seen other nets simply break under that much stress. So I'd say it's a pretty sturdy net.
  9. Let's not get into that debate! Glad you enjoyed the Loblaws pickerel. Must be good stuff, our seafood dept. is constantly sold out. I can't ever justify myself buying fish.. nor can Sugarpacket, she's always telling me I have too much in the freezer as it is. (which really isn't much.. a half limit of lake erie perch and a couple brook trout)
  10. I haven't got a clue how I found this place. I think it was through the profile of a member on another board. I found this place, was given a warm welcome and have called it home ever since!
  11. Congrats, or condolences?.. cuz you're gonna be obsessed now!
  12. Sleded and I originally headed out for pike this morning but found the largemouth were much more co-operative. Nothing big, Sleded got the biggest at about 1.5 - 2lbs but we held them close enough to the camera that they looked decent... lol First two were caught on scum frogs in the heavy slop near St Williams and the last two were caught on the weedbeds near Port Rowan, on buzzbaits. I think we caught a dozen in total and took pics randomly. Only other thing of interest is I hooked a nice rock bass and a nice pike (possibly musky, more likely pike) came out of the depths and chased it all the way to the boat before taking off. The fish weren't big and it sure wasn't easy, but anytime you get into topwater bass it's a great day on the water! Thanks for coming out Sleded, its been way too long!
  13. 50 inch fish exist in all the waters you have fished. I'm no expert, my biggest is 42, but I have seen kawartha fish that I know were 50 + Just keep at it. There's no easy place to catch a trophy musky .. and if it was easy, what would be the point?
  14. All my bluegills look like that! I gotta stop fishing at the pet store.
  15. Even more interesting jwl, I remember reading an article in OOD quite a few years back about the Ottawa River catfish having walleye as their main diet. Talk about a food chain.
  16. Good stuff man, congrats!
  17. Leaders are really unnecessary for salmon fishing. Their teeth are pretty much incapable of cutting your line. I tie direct with a barrel swivel. This also helps with the visibility factor - though I don't think salmon care much.
  18. I've tried something similar on spinners and spoons too egh but I found it impeded the action of the bait to some degree.
  19. I have a feeling looking at your display pic we've actually met at the river!
  20. Dang that's a smart idea. Actually I feel like an idiot. When we went to Nova Scotia we bought cheapo CT rods while we were there because it was so expensive to take them on the plane. I really, really wish I thought of that.. fishin' with a 5 dollar rod just isn't cool!!!
  21. What?! Why?! Mine just started!
  22. Scum frogs in the slop. If you're catching pike, you're fishing too deep!
  23. Interested in buying an aluminum bass boat next year. No not a deep V with casting decks, a real aluminum bass boat, built like a bullet and made for fishing fast. Like this one: Anybody here have one? Recommendations on which companies to deal with?
  24. Be the guide for a couple of years and SAVE the money earned to go to school when you come back.. if you ever come back.
  25. More of a rib eye really, brown roe's the tenderloin.
