  1. There is no drag on a centerpin, and no twist of any sort during a fish run. What do you mean? A spinning reel will twist line in seconds if you reel against the drag..
  2. Lol, they surely do. Anyone who assumes they dont eat when entering rivers has obviously never thrown a lure in the river for them.
  3. Congrats on the beast and thanks for the post Brian! Much appreciated on my end. Basically just take it easy on the fish is the name of the game or so it seems. Hope to get my first big pin fish this season!
  4. Seperate game coolers and prep rooms are the norm here. Guess we have more hunters.
  5. I dunno about up there, but all the local butcher shops here also do game for hunters. Or call FnF's buddy as he's probably more affordable than a shop.
  6. Check out the conservation areas on the northwest side of Hamilton, namely Valens and Mountsberg as well as the other great suggestions. They aren't free but still very reasonable priced for a day of fishing.
  7. Now that is awesome!! A beast of a chromer to boot!
  8. Some awesome tips here as usual! I think I definitely understand what I do wrong now. I treat them like fish I hook on a spinner where keeping tension is the whole game. And I keep the rod arced straight in the air. I need to set hook and leave a little slack by the sounds of it, let them get their shakes in before they run. It makes a lotta sense now and boy do I feel like an ameteur thinking back how I tried to fight those salmon, lol ... Thats alright though, I AM an ameteur at this. All part of the learning curve. As said I am hooking way more fish than I ever have in the fall so I'll just be happy about that until I learn to land them! Unless any steelheaders want to volunteer their time to speed up my learning curve that is Thanks everyone!
  9. I should have added that. To test my equipment, I brought the centerpin out for carp yesterday. Used my exact same setup I had been using all day. I know a carp is no fresh salmon or steelhead, but it's a pretty big fish capable of exerting a lot of resistance. No probs in knot or leader. It's all me.
  10. I keep breaking off the big ones. Usually within seconds, but if I let go of the spool soon enough and let them run, I've gotten a good 30 seconds before the break off. Lol 2 big fresh salmon yesterday, a big (for me) steelhead, then I finally landed a 15" brown. Why do I keep breaking fish off? I miss my baitcaster. Lol
  11. I fear when the level of respect for nature goes down the next bar.
  12. Honestly, I have no complaints about the reel. It has done the job just fine for me and after trolling for pike with it, and occasional musky fishing over 5 years it performs just as well as my Shimano Cardiff (albeit I've used it a LOT more).
  13. How about use it for your phone then.. fish finder.. aqua vu... Whatever needs power will appreciate it.
  14. BPS Musky Angler reel.. i fish muskies once every two years, works just fine for that. Lol
  15. 10 litres would get you home. I speak common sense.
  16. Man people have to argue adding a $10 solar panel to your boat.. like really? It produces power, it helps more than nothing.
  17. It puts out 2.5 amps ... My charger trickle charges with 2amps and fully charges my spiral cell in 9 hours from dead. Should work fine.
  18. For 12v batteries (ie trolling motor batteries) on sale at CTC this week for $9.99, just a heads up ! I know battery life is an issue for me as I only run electric motors now so this little panel will be handy dandy.
  19. Raising barometer - fish tend to be more active. Lowering - inactive Stable - stable
  20. I thought it was just tacos with fish instead of beef?
  21. Awesome, I just bought a bunch of 2" and 3" minnow imitations, will surely give it a shot! Thanks!
  22. They're steelies. The shakers tend to run through September at my local runs.. patiently awaiting the big girls. There are some big browns around already though, always got my hopes in the sky I'll get one of them big girls (or boys). Anybody know of any tricks to put the odds in your favour for browns?
  23. Oh as for floats well I had to bare with the Blackbird Phantom for another week or so til my Ravens come in from centerpinangling
  24. Awesome info and great help as always guys! The backing worked great. In fact everything did. Even my little makeshift speed cured roe bags worked out, and went 4/5 with a #8 egg hook 3 shakers and a one year old salmon. Good trial run, I think I got my setup done right this time!
  25. Yes.
