He asked for it. I do not do this myself anymore because you do in fact floss and snag. However, they do bite using this rig casting out into the lake. Steelheading isn't always river fishing you know .

Slip sinker rig. Main line, Egg sinker, Swivel to stop the sinker from moving to hook, leader, hook, roe bag with floaters. I like using heavier weights to have the bolt rig effect.

I see salmon rising on occasion. Does anyone know why this is?

I know that river! This is my first year hunting resident trout and I've discovered some pretty sweet spots so far. That river, if I'm correct, is decent in terms of size of trout. Caught one about the same size as wallacio. Chubs are evil. I was getting them left and right. They also smashed my indicator. I used woolly buggers size 6 & 10 and bead head pheasant tail nymphs. Also I find fly fishing the shallower rivers gives me somewhat of an edge. It's just my opinion though.

I don't remember where I read/heard this but apparently some guy had a brood stock of these at his hatchery and was about to scrap them. But later found out that they were actually extirpated so he kept them. They are the most beautiful fish in Ontario in my opinion!

Nice meeting you Dmasse. Thanks for the roe! Only hooked one the entire day. Kinda got fed up retying so many times in the cold with a broken hand. :/

When I was a kid I caught 4 suckers using a net in one go. That place is full of em. Suckers are already up some of the tribs in force

I got a 40$ scientific angler fly box for free after buying a 30$ fly line and a 50$ gift/coupon with no strings other than an expiry date for grand river troutfitters. entry paid for

Sure! The thing is, taxonomy isn't perfect. When two populations diverge enough to have separate subspecies is really what the general consensus is. If a taxonomist writes a paper to advocate for the central salmon and most people agree, a new subspecies arises. But this is fairly rare. Take a look at dogs. Chihuahuas and great danes are completely different. One's a real dog and the other... a rat but its all the same thing.
-
So long as the two populations (oceanic and landlocked) can produce fertile offspring they are considered a single species. They will get a subspecies name to differentiate the two. True. They were once the mojor salmonid in Lake O. There is a very cool story about the atlantic I learned about at a genetics lab in the ROM. They have a rare 100 year old skinmount of the ouannaniche. They were taking DNA samples to search for this strain that might have been collected for fish farms in other parts of the world. This strain might still exist somewhere!

Steelhead are migratory whereas rainbows aren't. Doesn't matter whether or not its to the ocean. Great lakes are a special case due to its size, they "think" its an ocean. There is sufficient forage fish in the lakes to sustain yhis.

My friend's cat wasn't so lucky. 20th floor as well. He came home one day and his cat was missing. He figured she was hiding somewhere. Two days later while going to class he heard loud meowing in the parking lot of his apartment. It was his cat! He quickly took it home but she didn't do anything but cry. It didn't eat the entire day. After he took it to the vet, it turned out her intestines were pushed into her stomach and she needed surgery immediately. He just couldn't afford the surgery as he was a student. Luckily, there is a program at the humane society that accepts animals for treatment but you would have to give up custody of the cat for obvious reasons. Last I heard she was doing fine and was adopted the day she was cleared to be released! 20 floors onto a parking lot and still lives is pretty impressive for those animals. I tried to adopt his cat but it was already gone. But I must say that place is EVIL. I adopted another cat the same day. How can you not?

Born 86 My first "job" was door to door sales in Toronto. I think the entire city of my generation had worked there at some point. It was straight commission. Most I've made was 140 in the 4 hours I worked thanks to this one guy saying how I didn't make enough. He practically bought the entire van! Next was Canada's Wonderland (Kidsville ride operator) for a summer for 8$ an hour. Seeing that I live in toronto, the commute was terribad in terms of time and money. Finally my current job is a huge improvement from the other two which is a field archaeologist. It's dirty especially when it rains but I love being outside. My crew is mostly girls too. Dirty muddy girls all day!

I just got back from a trib. It was high and mud. No more than 3 inches of visibility. Wait a few days for the water to drop a bit more.
-
I went to the smaller eastern tribs this afternoon and caught 3. It was really high muddy with around 3-4 inches of visibility. Tomorrow should be perfect! To bad I won't be down there
-
Despite the maybe 4 inches of vis. I went 3/3 today. All 3 were nice and fresh! They were eastern tribs though.
-
It rained, I'm sure the rivers opened up a bit too. Go fishing! Thats my plan anyways.

Wow. What a fatty! Congrats.

I was wondering how well the albright reels handle big fish. I'm pretty new to fly fishing and would like to try fly fishing bass/salmon without spending too much money. They do have sweet LOOKING reels but are they sweet working? The prices are almost too good

"anyways, i wont be posting anymore of the under water shots we took that day...it shows background and i dont want to spotburn." I know that rood formation! Anywho nice report. I was out aswell. It was the first time since the snowstorm and already some of the rivers are very frozen over in lower portions. I only got 1 between two of us all day. It was 90% finding a spot where I can effectively fight and land fish lol. Waders are coming in the mail soon!

King Phillip Comes Over For Grandma Sex Onchoryncus Mykiss in rivers. Nothing better than actively fishing. It appeases my ADD. I have very limited experiences with almost all the other game fishes so this might change.

This doesn't help at all I bet but they don't take roe bags. I saw one in about a foot of water just sitting there doing nothing. I figured I might as well have given it a try lol.
