Wouldn't hurt I don't think to have the valve train measured and possibly tightened up? I don't really know either, I just read somewhere at some point in my "winter cabin fever wishing for soft water, crazy pointless research" that after a few years it doesn't hurt to have it looked at.

What weight of braid are you running? When you switched from mono to braid did you "bump up" your pound test? Alot of people do this on braid because say 20 pound braid will be the same diameter as 8 pound mono (I know thats not exactly the rating but use it as an example). You may have gone a size too big and now the thicker braid isn't cutting the water as good as the thinner mono you had...get what I'm saying? If you used to use 8lb mono or 10lb or whatever, try running 10 or 15 pound braid it is super thin and *should* cut water well and get you down there. That's my thoughts though...anyone else ever have this problem remedied by what I described?

I have no problem with Improved Clinches on Power Pro/Ugly Braid/Fireline/ ect. But I also agree with the Palomar!

I see some guys don't share the same sense of humour. I apologize to the line junkies I demand you all go and fondle your favourite Float Rod/Jiggin stick/baitcaster PRONTO!

How bout we all quit talking about Flourocarbon vs. mono and just go out and fish?

Hey...we all know you Steelheaders are the snobbiest anglers out there...

I make sure to keep atleast a few hundred yards away when possible. When I'm fishing on the ice I don't appreciate guys zipping buy on a noisy machine...kinda ruins the moment. Oh wait...that's why I fish the park...

Easy now...let's not ruin a perfectly good Walleye topic with mono vs. fluoro debates. ...besides we all know fluoro is unnecessary

0 lakers, 2, 3, 12...I just love feeling them hit those jigs on the drop! Then it's ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!

There is talk over on Walleye Central about mono vs. flouro on trolling and rigging rods. Alot of guys are switching back to to flouro and mono from braid because the braid isn't letting the eye's suck the bait into their mouth enough resulting in alot of half bit worms and minnows...which we all know isn't fun. Personally I haven't had a problem pulling rigs with braided line, but that probably was in part to the flimsier SCII graphite of my Croix Mojo Bass. Now that I have a Legend Tournament Walleye with SCIV, I might be switching back to a stretchier line...not something im happy about!

4?!?!? Get in 2 and 3 feet you girl!!!! The one and only Speck I caught this winter was with a #6 Eagle claw treble with the worm's head hooked through two hooks on it. No weight at all in about 3 feet of water laying on bottom. Last year a Blue/Grey EGB tipped with a minnow head jigged in 3 feet caught this one... -
I have a Regal XiA 2500. Great reel for the price. Comes with a spare aluminum spool and has a push button folding handle. Definitely a bargain at 59$

Agreed that he did come off a little crude in how he said it... -

I don't think that it is rediculous that he did that. I know lots of people who are experienced enough that they can safely go into the bush alone for extended periods of time...I'm not "bashing" him because of that. What I think is rediculous is the fact that he should have known his limitations and planned his trips around them accordingly. But he thought the bush was something he could play with like a toy, and now he has ruined his families life because of it.... Shame on him for being so selfish. -

Me and Wormie were having a discussion via MSN a while back wondering when Walleye, among all other sport fish become infertile and no longer spawn. The question I am asking is: Do sport fish even become infertile, and if so at what approximate age would they be "no longer useful to the spawning effort"? This question came up when we discussed wether or not we would keep a mammoth Walleye/Laker/Whatever, as I had noticed someone posting last year about a Tournament winning Lake Trout and C&R activists getting rather "upset" over the fact that the angler kept such a dinosaur (40ish pounds I think?) and others came to defend the angler saying that the fish was "well past spawning age". EDIT- PLEASE THIS IS NOT A THREAD TO ARGUE ABOUT CATCH AND RELEASE VS. CATCH AND KILL. IF YOU WANT TO TELL SOMEONE THEY ARE EVIL FOR KEEPING SUCH A DINOSAUR PLEASE GO ELSEWHERE, AND IN TURN IF YOU WANT TO COME HERE AND TELL SOME ONE THEY'RE A FERRY FOR RELEASING SUCH A CREATURE PLEASE GO ELSEWHERE. THIS THREAD IS ASKING ABOUT SPORT FISH AND HOW THEY'RE AGE RELATES TO SPAWNING NOT A C&R vs. C&K THREAD. THANK YOU. P.S. I got cabin fever! I got cabin fever! I got cabin fever! *music off*

For walleye, bass, pike and smaller lakers you can't go wrong with a 6'6" Medium Action rod and a 2500 size reel. Canadian Tire sells an excellent little Shimano rod called the Soujourn. Its green with a cork handle. Great little rod for 40$ I use one as my canoe rod. If you want to step up to a little higher end with a longer warranty you can go to a St.Croix Triumph (70$) or a higher end Shimano, but these likely won't be available at Cambodian Tire. For a reel a Shimano Sedona or Daiwa Regal XiA either in 2500 or 3000 size and spool it with some Power Pro braid or even Trilene XL just to get you started. Grab a couple 1/3 and 2/5 ounce Acme Little Cleo's in blue/silver and Rainbow Trout, a Rapala Xrap in Clown colour, Rapala Original Floating minnow in Gold/Orange, some White and Yellow jigheads, and an assortment of single and treble hooks, sinkers, bobbers and snap swivels. This may sound like Japanese right now, but if you do a little googling you'll see what these products are .
