  1. Gar Pike on a FLY(I assume) !!! Looks like FUN!!! Nice Pix!!!
  2. I'm with bNb on this one. I even won a tourny a few years back with just a jig/grub combo when other lures failed to produce. Countless Northerns were caught while rippin a jig through the weeds pickerel fishing. And they hit really hard even on a day that you think you aint gonna catch a thing. My fav colours are white, motor oil, black/orange. Good luck.
  3. Hi, I was at the Watertown store last week...very good price for the fishing stuff. Terminator Super Stainless spinnerbait 3.99, GM Guide series spinnerbait with strikeKing blades 2.99, Black Magic (store brand) senko-type worm 2.99, Yamasenko 5" (only a few colours) 5.99, Gammy x/0 hooks 2.99, Gammy Super Line(red ones).x/0 3.99 etc...etc... they had some CottonCordell plugs in a bin for 1.99...some bundled Berkely power stuff 10 bucks 3 bags, Suick musky plugs 7.99/9.99...My wife had to drag me out the store...but...but...there was a jiffy gas auger on sale for 199...she wouldn't even let me check what size! Their regular terminal tackle and lures prices are about 20% cheaper vs BPS Toronto. Electronics stuff like GPS, flasher, fish finder are about 15% cheaper vs BPS Toronto. P.S. Don't bring your credit cards, don't bring your spouse .... LOL....
  4. Benior Lake…a very small lake with a deep basin. It won’t take you long to cover the lake. Try York River between Benior and Elephant. The bends and pools get very deep in the river, try drifting livebait or jig/grub on the bottom, keep your line tight. It’s a little difficult not to spook the fish in the holes navigating around the obstacles in the river if you have a bigger boat. Did anyone mention ‘eyes? If you’re looking for quality not quantity. Good luck. P.S. Get there before the jet skis and jet boats.
  5. Rich, Brown trout. There are spots on the adipose fin (third picture down). Atlantic adipose fin is unspotted. I have caught two Atlantic salmon in Lake Ontario tribs few years back, one in Oshawa , one in Mississauga, neither one of them tagged.
  6. congrats! I had a 16' mirrocraft years ago. still kickn' myself for selling it. solid boat.
  7. Hi, Went fishing at my favourite Kawarthas “walleye” spot on Saturday. Got to the launch at around noon and only greeted by a strong gusting westerly to about 45 klicks. Perfect weather for pickerel fishing we thought, but things got very different when we were actually on the water. Among other variables, it was very difficult and frustrating not able to drift over the walleye flat that we were trying to position even with the aid of the drift sock, we decided to pull in to a small bay to cast some plugs to see if there are any takers. First fish was a 10” crappie hit my 6” plug…go figure… From then on it was all crappie action, I only wish I had my ultra light gears with me. Most crappie were about 10 inches and under, with a few 13, 14 inchers. The biggest one was 1.4 pound on the Berkley digital. These fish were hitting small plugs, spinnerbait, but the majority of them were hooked with a jig/plastic. This went on and off for about four hours. In all I think we caught no less than 70 fish between the two of us. We didn’t even get one walleye, but this crappie business really made our day. Kept some of the fish… Took forever to clean all these fish, unlike the perch or the ‘eyes, these things are very tricky to clean. I almost lost a finger. Wasted most of the fish, I had to add some shrimps in it to make our dinner. Minced it all up to make fish balls. Finished product, I guess it was worth all the work…
  8. Holy crap...how desperate do you have to be??? I read about this on two different Chinese fishing sites and most of the members are furious regarding these poachers  . A picture is worth a thousand words, I hope these guys get what they deserve.
  9. My deepest condolences. Sounds like your Dad was a great guy!!! Take care!
  10. My deepest condolences HH. Stay strong.
  11. LOL...my wife said the same thing when we were watching Surviorman Amazon. He made a catfish trap in the swamp down south and baited with a half eaten frog for catfish...I thought that was pretty cool. He didn't get a catfish, but I think he trapped a turtle. He did speared a fish with a trident in the tropic. We watch all the rerun too.. We're lucky to have all the modern equipment for the business.
  12. 2Lakeigo, I’m sorry to hear about the incident, and I feel for you. Yes you did the right thing, and we just have to see how the court is going to justify this incident. I came to this country from Hong Kong almost 30 years ago and sport fishing was introduced to me by one of my uncles and one of my high school History Teachers. Like yourself, I follow the guidelines, regulations, and mind my own business when I’m out fishing…But that didn’t stop me from being harassed and threatened. Once you’re outside of the city (metropolis), a lot of folks just look at you as an outsider/foreigner. I’m glad your dad was there to keep you grounded. There are couple of incidents happened to me which involved some bruised ribs and black eyes. My brother (a non-angler) is lucky enough to retire at the age of 49, and he had just bought a house on the water only a few minutes away from the “ground zero” (I guess that makes him a “Co Co Bonk LOL). Last week, one of his neighbours asked him to go check out what the folks are doing at the dam with him in the late hours of the evening, and my brother asked him why? He said to my brother that they might speak the same language, and that they are probably conducting some illegally activities like poaching, smoking drugs, or getting “bombed”. My brother then told him he didn’t want to go with him, because like most Asians, he didn’t want any trouble. So the neighbour went with his wife to investigate. The next day my brother asked the neigbour what the finding was, and he told my brother that they are just fishing, catching small fish and putting them in the white buckets and creels…just being “annoying”. My brother is still wondering how annoying one could be sitting by the dam with a fishing rod. As Asian Canadians, what can we do to help to educate our fella Asians anglers? I think a lot of us are trying our very best, and still at it. I have been on FM88.9 to encourage new immigrants not to leave garbage behind, practice c & c, not to make too much noise…etc…but most importantly, we have to talk to them in the field, tell them to earn the respect from the locals, perhaps to use the local restaurants, gas stations, or tackle shops, to help out the local economy. There was one time I started to pick up garbage at a popular fishing spot, and little that I noticed there were at least 4 or 5 people start doing the same. Most of the folks that I talked to were very understanding, and majority of them agreed on that some anglers are simply just “pigs” "bad apples" to make us Asians look bad. I am also very please to see the Chinese media trying to look at the whole situation in Kingston in a broader view, and trying not to exaggerate the issues of racism. As She promised, this country of OURS had given me what I expected and more…with the law, the media, and the efforts of the follow Asian Canadians, I think the situations could only improve, time will tell. Until then, there will always be a small group of folks trying to find someone to hate. Best Regards, Larry P.S. If you and your dad still want to fish the area, please let me know, perhaps we can hook up and maybe I can introduce you to some better folks who live there.
  13. My family and I were fishing the West Arm (Musky Island) last week but failed to catch a musky. This is the first time in a few years that we have not a musky for the camera in the area...it was not for the lack of trying…we trolled and cast all week. The only “could have been” a musky was when I was flipping for bass with my son along the shoreline over some submerge timbers, a fish hit my flipping jig, I set the hook, felt the head shake then it clean cut my 50# pp…could have been a Northern We found some smaller walleye near the rivermouth east of Musky Isle over 15-18 fow and caught quite a few 12-14” fish. They were tight on the bottom, and hit the worm harness like the perch. We also hooked a few slot eyes throwing spinnerbait where we normally find the smallies over some rock and weeds. Good luck and have fun. Report here... http://www.ofncommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10438
  14. Hi, Got back from the West Arm couple days ago. The weather was interesting, we got hailed on twice, a couple of freaky summer storms, overall it was cool, fresh, and nice. No musky this year tho, not even a follow-up…we cast and troll with bucktail spinners and plugs daily with no avail :dunno: . Robyn trolling… On the other hand, the bass fishing was just fantastic…lots of fish in the covers, we caught many bass and few of them were in 3-4# range. texased worms and the spinnerbait worked The orange/black spinnerbait produced a few of the usual suspects on the West Arm this year… …and a few slot eyes…tried out the celphone camera…didn’t turn out too nice followed the rainbows home…celphone picture…not too good… We had a great time! Be back again next year… :thumbsup_anim:
  15. trolling for wolves?
  16. I do use the crank quite often for bassing. But I think the weedless plastic presentations in these eutrophic waters in southern ontario maximize my fishing day.
  17. Very nice pix, thanks for sharing. Yeah, that looks like a Eastern Milk, I have seen one one Six Mile Lake. Wonder why they named this constrictor the "milk" sneak tho?
  18. Topwater bassing!!! Sounds like FUN!!! I have been to Eugenia about a dozen times in the past, and maybe caught about 5 smallies altogether, otherwise all largemouth bass. Perhaps I should target them next time when I'm on the lake. Thanks for reporting. Good fishing. P.S. I always carry one of those cheapie disposal cameras in my tackle bag as a spare...just in case.
  19. Very happy little fisherman indeed. Kids grow up really quickly. Thanks for sharing.
  20. A friend of mine has a cottage near Ardoch, and we fish Malcolm and Mud Lake almost every year. Very good smallmouth bass fishing to be had in these lakes . When our kids were small, they liked using real worms with split shots to drag along the bottom, the small bass kept them interested all day. Throw anything that looks like a frog near shore in the evening will catch you some decent fish, but watch out for rock and boulders tho. Good fishing.
  21. thanks for the help guys.
  22. :thumbsup_anim: Nice fish!!! That was like the fishing yesterday. thanks for reporting. good fishing.
  23. Hey "Mepps" what's that lure you were using to catch those smallies??? LOL Nice report thanks. Good luck in Nova Scotia. One of my wife's cousin lives in Dartmouth, and I fished there a few time for Salmon/Trout/American Shad/Smallies/Grass Pickerel...and even cast for Mackerel. All the best, and good fishing.
  24. Recently I have removed some of the flotation foam in a few places from the boat to install some equipment. Does anyone know where I can buy some for the replacement and seal it back. I have tried a local marine and the marine dept at BPS and neither places have it. Thanks.
  25. Great looking bass! Nice report again thanks. No smallmouth this time???
