  1. Watched a TV documentary on that country a while ago. The head honchos there have decided to use all their dwindling oil reserve revenues to build the worlds foremost tourist destination. I recall the show saying that an apartment building/skyskraper is completed about every coupla minutes or so. Their even building a connected tourism-focused island complex that is so huge it's easily picked up by satelites. "Build it and they will come". Any idea how many rich/middleclass folks haven't experienced snow? A guy I know just returned from there. He was staying at a pal's condo and different beautiful 'girls' would knock on his door in the morning. Kinda like door-to-door salespersons..... he says their rates weren't bad either! LOL! I bet lotsa big executive types will enjoy holding their annual meetings there due to such perks....
  2. Makes my day to hear the great progress report! Maybe during the next week or two we can get together. GT and Chuckles have been buggin me re your recovery status. I'll lettem know and maybe we can all go drown some worms on Simcoe together! Hey TJ, I bet Big Chev has pushed bigger guys than you out of the way TO GET INTO A GOOD FIGHT!
  3. Shame on you Terry! That's spam! You're only trying to promote your pal Ron's business! LOL!
  4. Great news Steve! Hey, maybe share the recipe if your Aunt permits. I may be trying some river spots soon and who knows, maybe I'll catch a rainbow!!!!
  5. Thanks for the insight re who owns stuff there Wayne. Had no idea about that. But I'd also rather not say exactly where the dock was since I obviously fished close by and reported a laker getting caught there while we were eating lunch. Business is doing better than expected so maybe this Spring I can get back up there and take you fishing.
  6. Great report and ideas on what's going on down there! Congrats also on getting several fish!
  7. LOL! Not a lodge. A rich US family my bud's grandad worked/guided for years ago. Oh, and Joey, you're probably right about what my pal Swampdawger would say about my legs! But ain't you the "pot" sittin in the cooler "callin the kettle" standin on the dock "black?!" LOL!
  8. As for when it's best to go, my Metis bud had a contact up there who he'd call to find out if they were in shallow yet. From my several-years of experience as to when we went up, it was usually the week after the May 24 wknd or the one following that. That's a nice huge laker pic Wayne! Check out Loon Lodge. Lotsa the old-school cheapskate trout chasers I knew go there and the management seems to know about when the best fishing is. I think they also rent icehuts and such. It's also in close proximity to some great fishing spots. Oh and Happy New Year to everyone!
  9. GCD those were all about the same year class we get in the shallows in Spring. A Metis pal up there has 40lber on the wall from a native net. Natives roll the huge ones out and release em since they only want the tasty smaller ones. Each winter during icefishing a few folks will have their 30lb lines break from lakers that don't come off bottom.
  10. Used to go up a little after the May 24 weekend and would usually get limits within a few hours using lake trolls and canoe spoons. This day a pal and I just had lunch on shore and took the pic of 5. Checked my line that I set out during lunch and number 6 was on it! Then we took to chasing the big pike that are up there also. Great place to fish! Although the skyline tree reserve hides lotsa the logging from view, the area still is beautiful and has some monster lakers, pike and walleye in it.
  11. Great report! Your bad luck should be gone now according to the "It happens in threes" theory. Your three were pretty big ones too! LOL!
  12. WOW!!! and LOL!!! Great report! That one fish looks to be 40 inches! Guess they're cruising for food now that the weeds and forage is reduced around their usual dock haunts. Waida figure em out by covering lotsa ground!!
  13. Merry Christmas and happy Honica (sp?) to all the Mods.. May peace and love share with you all the campfires of the coming year!!!!!
  14. I was out on Tuesday and Wednesday except when too rough. I did well with around 10 fish of all sizes and fished east of the ferry crossing in the middle and more to the north side. Used 5 and at midday 6 colour leadcore with CC blue/silver shads and on the planers 220 ft back using green/orange Manns stretch divers and the RR Barbie. Trolled around 1. to 1.7mph. Hope you have better luck next time!
  15. Heat the bar and bend/hammer the sucker back down to where it was. Good ta go. Or, if no room to swing a hammer to beat it out, try attaching a length of strong chain and then at the last link away from the hitch, slide a tire iron through and then beat on the tire iron as close to the chain as possible while holding it at the other end. Then have some beer and laugh your butt off about the Lexus.
  16. Congrats on a great deal! Hope you have many enjoyable years out of it Roger!
  17. Can't answer such a question probably. Some sell worms and minnows and others sell worms and lures, and others have hellgramites and now no more frogs.... Some have no harvest permits so have to buy their minnows from wholesalers, while others have permits to harvest and sell, while others are in better locations to get more business although some have less overhead.... some make extra money selling fishing licences too... Sheesh!
  18. Send a fat guy out first and watch. Waita minute.... with equal rights and all going on nowadays, send a fat "person" out first and see what.... JK! Good advice above. I hear trappers use an ice spud and tap as they go (tapping the the spud that is, not like in showtunes) and they listen for changes. Drill test holes lots.
  19. Wanna go stare at and maybe buy a new fishing lure. You know the lure I mean... the one that once you know it exists you just can't live without it! Tried calling the store but just get an endless answering machine that turns french and longggg Anyone know the store hours?
  20. Maybe the bear responded to the humming sound the device gave off... perhaps at a frequency we humans can't hear... and opened the box looking for the same stuff he got before from a beehive. I've seen woodpeckers hammer on transformers atop hydro poles for what appears to be the same reason.
  21. Next time during the meeting prearrange to have someone call on yer celphone. Fake like it's the bigshot Jumla Predident or someone and say stuff like... " Ya I'm taking your 21 ft Ranger console offer, not the stinkin tiller one" and just before you fake like yer hangin up, say something like "Ya, OK you can tell Linder and Babe I'll do their shows.... but they'll pay more this time!" JK! Good luck. Do charity work and tellem about it.
  22. First 2 pics were right after you got the boat I recall. Pleasure meeting you guys. Recall... your musky net got lost back down the highway as it flew outta the boat somewheres...Misfish having to go early because he got hurt when his pedestal seat gave way....OUCH!! You guys won the prize too I reluctantly recall. Hey, looks like that might be me standing beside the ole car in the second pic. Nice place and a good time there.
  23. 21 inch Toro high reving electric-start single stage with the rubber paddles. Had an old buddy use one for years and he was on disability. He himself would lift it into his pickup and go do many other old folks in town. Made lotsa $$ and wore out a set of paddles. He swore by it and it throws snow a mile. I have one and love it. Maybe $700. taxes in.
