Its a good assumption Bill on the age and the gender as to being an older male....but ...the information and research on Snowy Owls is still in its infant stage....there have been ALL white birds that have turned out to be females once captured to check...who knows...maybe there are several different variations of the Snowys...I will probably follow Snowy stories and articles for the rest of my life as they are very interesting birds Love the fall off to bokah on the new lens ....melts to butter soft....

The prophecy has been fullfilled...the Snowys can now return to the Great White Arctic...lol....Nice shot Bill ! He is a beauty....

Awesome shots ...these are harder to capture than deer...i once sat up a tree above a dead moose trying to get them but they are ever elusive and smart...i ended up walking out in the dark with no shots...you got lucky Joey! Nice shooting

last year was my first year doing it and i started fairly late ...but i havent noticed a difference in taste...both yummy...especially while it hot! i still have fifteen gallons of sap to boil yet...i brought ten gallons home to get some incentive to keep going...so far 25 gallons have flowed from the 30 trees i tapped
-
just finished off my first 500 ml ...it would have been probably a litre but i drank half while it was still hot...i am the official taste tester

woundnt it be interesting if we brought back capital punishment today ?

lol good point ...it might help if the Milky Way was available...i was just happy there was a clear sky and wanted to do a timplepse in the dark to track the stars and part moon...it started out as a beautiful night the camera was outside for at least an hour working perfectly until the drastic drop in temp...

Snow is so deep in the bush it was almost like work trying to tap the trees...i managed to get 30 trees tapped before my battery died for the drill...I think ill put 20 or so more taps and that should do for my first year solo ..
-
I tried to do a Milky Way the other night but the temperature dropped so fast my camera actually froze with ice buildup on the lens ...it must have been from the temperature of the sensor in contrast to the rapid drop to -18

If the roof is stick framed (which i think it is) it is supposed to have ridge support every 4 feet running from a load supporting wall/beam up vertically to the ridge..,,,where the dormer crashes into the main roof should also have support to a load bearing wall...whereas the ridge for the dormer has none and should have at least one support other than the main roof rafters and gable wall.. you can spread the load over the ceiling joists for the dormer but ideally there is a patrician wall under it ... as for the engineering ...i think i read that the house was 18 years old...its only within the last ten years that a house print had to have a BIN stamp on it for residential ...so it most likely was only inspected by the building inspector of the time...but the town will have a copy of the original prints that the building permit was issued under...Im guessing they put collar ties but no vertical supports for the ridge.... IF it was a truss roof the sheeting would have to be continuous for the length of the roof on the rafters where the dormer sits...i cant see any sheeting or ribbon ties at the back of the exposed dormer...thats why im guessing its a stick frame
-
Based on the exposed gable end...im going to guess there was insufficient ridge support (i dont see any in the open gable) ..if the ridge support was in place every 4 feet this wouldnt have happened unless the bearing walls collapsed...Glad no one was hurt
