Im running the D7100 now....D800 is my next body though...and the DG lens will work on full format bodies so thats a bonus....
-
Alberta is going to cull the last 850 wild horses in the province...make a connection with the ranchers out there...
-
Not on my Nikon...not sure how Canon fairs out with the lens though ...i could use 51 focus points but only use 21 or 9 when tracking birds..it seems to hold decent now that i have the other settings on the camera kinda sorted out...im still experimenting for better shots ...
-
I have the same lens ...i find it soft at the 500mm range but very good at the 400 - 450 range...its been a learning curve with the lens but i find mine is best at F8 for action shots ,,,,but for the money ...its very good...Congrates on the new lens and nice shots

The vets removed his eye on the 2nd of December...the last time i pulled a quill was just after christmas...sorry for the side track RC ...just wanted you to be aware of what could possibly happen..i believe i have resolved any further issues with porcupines around this property for the time being but should it ever happen again ...i wont put the dog through a severe ordeal like that again ...
-
Im posting this for your awareness and to raise a concern of caution should your new buddy have a strong prey drive because if i remember correctly you are living in a rural wooded area , This is my dogs ordeal with a porcupine...trust me when i say skunks are much easier to deal with...Beautiful dog you have ....enjoy the years ahead ! Caution ,,not for the squeamish https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.221274634662955.1073741830.109693065821113&type=1

Well it was tough shooting in the fog today, I blew countless opportunities for action shots but i couldnt find the birds in the veiwfinder so I just had to make the best of the sitting birds..
-
up for a challenge? find the Owl in this image Mel Diotte shot this yesterday...took me a little bit to find it
-
seems to be alot of those saw whet around this year....awesome little dude...ive seen several pop up on different bird sites It was great today Bill...3 hours 9 Owls and alot of shots!
-
the are everywhere Bill...i found its a matter of learning what your looking for ...(white basketball or mini snowman profile or a white 5 gallon bucket with black scuffs on it ) they are that big...best time is all day long...as soon as you spot your first one youll see them instantly while driving (i do now) cruise the back roads with open fields preferable with treelines off in the distance...they are eating voles so look around haybales in fields etc ...its easy to spot when they are in high vantage points but when it gets closer to the ground your basically looking for "big white bumps" on a white background... when im driving i try to think the veiw i have is a picture...im looking for a blown out pixel on that image (tops of poles, trees roofs etc...Barrie area has alot ...a buddy of mine is running Snowy Owl photo tours to tourists with cameras in the Barrie area...lol...he is doing very well...Ive found as soon as you see one in real life your eye is trained to spot them quickly...Im going to head out again today to try my luck.. They eat 7 times a day so are fairly active in moving around...as soon as you do find one ...he will return to that spot time and time again ( its his turf now) for months which gives you lots of opportunities for different lights and action shots. As a hunter you know the best way to catch something is to know your prey so i read alot of stuff to try and put the odds in my favour..but this is the year for snowys for sure.....thousands upon thousands of them are around this year...one was even sited as far south as bermuda ....polar vortex anomaly i guess
