  1. Just go slow and let it do it's job, they don't do really well in wet heavy stuff. Make sure you run the auger for a minute or two after you finish and make sure you clean out any wet stuff that is still in the blower. If you don't, it'll freeze and that can cause belts and friction discs to wear out much faster than normal the next time you go to use it or even break a shear pin.
  2. LOL, seems like I might have the rain dance and the fish dance mixed up (never was a very good dancer LOL). Oh well, everything that happens, happens for a reason. there will be other days. I was just out on the deck and can see huge dark spots on the lake, probably slush, if it is here it's probably on Scugog too and while my ATV is a 450 with good clearance nothing seems to work well in slush (including me).
  3. Moe, I'd love to spend a day fishing with you, seems we've been trying to hook up for quite a while now. What days are you available in the next two weeks?
  4. Well, just got off the phone with Bill, it's a mix of rain and ice pellets here right now so we decided standing out on the ice for the day in this stuff isn't quite what we had in mind so we'll try again, perhaps for Sunday weather permitting. OH well next time!
  5. Congratulations! There are some things in life that are just more important than getting a boat and one of them is getting a good crew. Sounds like you are well on your way!
  6. Well, 4:30 am and I just steped out the door, darn near ended up on my butt, light coating of ice all over everything and light rain. I'm starting to think the fishing gods don't want me to get out there. Bill, I think we should probably try for another day. Sounds like the rain is going to get heaver as the day goes on, 5 cm for this afternoon and evening, winds anywhere from 25 to 40 km/ph. Doesn't sound like FUN to me. What do you think? Cliff
  7. Thanks for all the help guys, looks like we are going to try Scugog tomorrow for a bit. Beans, really sorry to hear you can't make it but I promise I'll get you out on lake X in the next week or so. Looks like I might even be available on Sunday this weekend, perhaps we can get the old gang together for a day.
  8. Well, if you wern't so far away you could borrow mine for a weekend, they sure are fun to use, if you can make it to the "fishing for Tyler" weekend in Feb. I'll bring mine along and you can try it for the day.
  9. Thank you! Any idea what time causeway baits opens in the morning?
  10. I have tried to sharpen them a few times but without much success then someone told me they are hollow ground (whatever that means) and unless you have special equipment you can never get them as good as if they are new. If my auger does start to get dull, I just buy new blades.
  11. My gut hurts from laughing so hard LOL. Four of including the Vet. tried to give one of our cats a pill once, the cat won!
  12. Well, you could always flush a 1/4 stick of stumping powder (TNT) with a long fuse down the toilet, It'll either clear the blockage or pop the lids right off the tank for you (might even do both). LOL (just kidding, do not try this at home!) Sorry, dumb I know. Had a similar problem with our tank shortly after we purchased this place and spent hours digging holes trying to find it, by the time we did our yard loked like we had been invaded by gophers and I was ready to blow something up! Hope you have better luck than we did! I have since built extenders over the covers on our tank so we'll never have to dig out the lids again. Sounds like lostchild has the answer. It would be worth paying someone to come and locate it for you. On a raised bunglow the top of the tank is probably about 2' below your floor which, depending on where the tank is could mean a lot of digging.
  13. I'm starting to get cabin feaver and would love to get a day out on the ice, tomorrow looks like it might not be too bad, a little light rain in the forecast but not too cold. I wouldn't mind trying Scugog but the only access I know is over at Gorskies (sp) and I'm not sure about parking and I can't walk too far. That area of Scugog is the only area I would even have any idea where to fish. I do have a 4wheeler ATV and I was thinking Beaverton is only about 1/2 an hour drive from here but again, I'm not familiar with the area. Any help/ideas would be much appreciated. Beans do you think your old buggy could make it this far? Thought about going up to Jacks so I could swing by and pick you up but I just had to rebuild the axle bearings on my trailer and would prefer to do a shorter trip untile I am comfortable that every thing is seated properly, almost lost a wheel last time I was out with it. Anyone going tomorrow that wouldn't mind a tag along? I don't care what I'm fishing for as long as I get in some fishing!
  14. If you are looking at Barrie and thinking of driving into TO everyday...... Summer time lots of traffic as you battel with all the cottagers heading up/down the 400. Winter time lake effect snow can make that highway a parking lot/scrap yard several times a winter. I've got nothing bad to say about Barrie but I wouldn't consider it if you intend to drive into TO everyday. Lindsay to TO isn't too bad, the 407 is due to be extended over to the 115/35 in the not too distant future, Go trains are soon going to be coming into Pontypool (10 Minutes drive South of here) and in the short term you could just drive down to Oshawa (30 minutes) and take the GO train into TO. Fishing..... Well you are 35 minutes away from Simco, 30 minutes or less to Scugog, you can fish right in town in the Scugog River and you have all of the Kawarthas right on your door step and you've got a seat in my boat or on my dock anytime you want to use it. Housing prices: well a new upscale detached is in the $200,000.00 - $225,000.00 price range but there are lots of good deals on detached houses in the $150 - $200,000.00 range too and with the way this town is starting to grow any realestate in this area is going to be a good investment.
  15. Been dealing with State Farm for 30+ years I have always been pleased with the service and support that I have gotten from them.
  16. You in a heap of trouble boy! LOL
  17. If it tasted like FISH then it probably wasn't fresh. Fish that is caught and properly cared for is very light and delicate in flavour. It can be enhansed in a variety of ways, browned butter with lemon and herbs, salmon and trout with lemon and dill..... the list is endless but it shouldn't taste FISHEY even without any of those things. I don't know how many times I've seen guys go fishing for the day, tie a bunch of fish on a stringer, drag it behind the boat in the hot sun and gas and oil, leave it in a bucket over night then clean it and wonder why it tasted FISHEY. Go figure! If you want fish to eat, catch it fresh, pack it on ice, clean it while it is still fresh and freeze or eat it within a day. Commercial caught fish sits in the hold on a boat untile they have a chance to clean it then it gets shipped to the market untile you buy it and then goes home until you have a chance to cook it. usually 4-10 days after it was caught. That ain't fish!
  18. You got it my friend! Should have an answer tomorrow.
  19. The generosity of the members of OFC never ceases to amaze me. let me find out what the sausages are going to cost us and I'll post it on here. I suspect it will be less than the $100.00 but wait until I have the final numbers in. Any money goes directly through Moe as she is the coordinator. I am also going to try to see if we can get some nice big saussage buns donated from the local bakery, I'll be talking to them tomorrow!
  20. Well, the offer stands if things don't work out the way you are hoping! Always have a seat on my dock for you anytime you want it!
  21. Go garmin all the way and Radio World had the best prices I could find anywhere. The best deal I could find was at the Sportsman Show (Radio World special) and got the Garmin 76 map for $200.00 including the cable to link it to my computer included.
  22. Jon, if you don't mind driving up to Lindsay you are more than welcome to bring your wife and the cats and come up here for a couple of days until you get things sorted out. We've got lots of room! Call me 705-328-0750
  23. I talked with Len and Patty Thurston today (the butcher shop that helped us out last year) and they are pleased to help us again this year, they are a small shop so they can't afford to just donate it to us but will give us what ever we need at their cost. Anyone that had one will tell you how good they were. I asked them for 50 honey Garlic and 50 Italian saussages and they will call me tomorrow when they have worked everything out. Last year we got about 140 saussages and had some left over which we auctioned off so nothing got wasted. This year I figured if we went short on them everyone would be willing to pay more just to get one LOL (not really, just don't want to get more than we need.) Anyway, I should know more tomorrow and will post then.
