  1. Fantastic report (and you are right Beans LOL). We'll get up there one day soon.
  2. What a wonderful way to start off the New Year! If you go to CTC and pick up a couple of those cheap carpet runners and put them where he needs to go, that will make it easier for him to get around and avoid slips. We had to do that for Andy when he buggered up his leg, worked well and didn't cost a lot.
  3. Thanks for the report, much appreciated! We have a few cold days ahead of us then things warm up a bit, 8-10" of ice is about what I feel comfortable taking my quad out on. got your ice fishing gear ready Beans? (Oh and I'll bring the helmits this time LOL)
  4. I didn't know Van season had opened yet. Which tag do I need to buy for that? Glad you weren't hurt and that the deer was harvested and won't go to waste.
  5. That's wonderful news Rick, looking forward to some pictures.
  6. Thanks icewalker28, I wonder if we are talking about the same Jacks Lake as I see you are in North Bay, I'm over near Peterborough.
  7. You have to try some of it smoked, it is SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. Got a few days off and was thinking I might try to get a day out on the ice. I was just wondering what the ice was like on Jack's lake, are there any huts out yet? It's a long drive up there just to check out the ice conditions. A sled just went through Sturgeon Lake a few days ago (guy got out OK but I'm not sure if they recovered the sled or not).
  9. That is wonderful news Gary. Glad we have such a good medical system in Canada. It might not be perfect but it sure beats being sick and loosing everything you have worked your whole life for. All the best my friend!
  10. I've been hunting for close to 50 years and I've owned a variety of guns and hunted almost anything that you can eat. The best all round gun I have ever used is my Remington 870 Express magnum (although I do have several other guns that I like to use depending on what I am hunting and this year really enjoyed hunting with my crossbow). It's been wet, dirty, banged around but has never failed me. 3" 00 Buck magnum for deer, I've shot plenty and never lost one yet but then I pick my shots. 2 3/4" 7 1/2 shot for upland game and birds, #4 for ducks and goose (20 gauge or even a .410 when you have some experience) is a real good choice for grouse and rabbits. I'd get a year or two under your belt before you try them though. There is no worse feeling than wounding something and having it suffer or get away to die later. Talk to some of the local gun shops or give Sam at Carra a call, he might be able to hook you up with a good used gun for a reasonable price. Hunting is a lot like fishing, start with the basics and build to suit your personal prefferences. If there is a gun club close to you then get out and see them, try to get in a couple of rounds in on their trap range, it will really help to hone your wing shooting skills, it does take some practice to be able to take a bird on the wing, it isn't quite as easy as point and shoot LOL. Lastly, try to get some time in with an experienced hunter rather than just going off on your own, again, there is a lot to learn about survival in the bush, like how not to get lost or what to do if you do (it's not hard to get turned around when you've been concentrating on finding game and there is no sun) done it once or twice myself. Seen some guys have panic attacks when they realized they weren't going in the direction they thought they were going. Good luck and enjoy your new experience.
  11. Thanks for the update Rick, we'll all be watching for progress reports. While I know it is hard for some people to understand, we do tend to love them every bit as much as a human member of our family. Who else gives you nothing but love and asks for so little in return? Keep your spirits up cause Jack will sense if you are worried and he will worry about you. I'm off for a few days, if there is anything I can do to help you in any way, just let me know.
  12. You are close enough that it should probably work, not as well as it should but work. gap on the plug should be 20 mil. coil should be 10 mil. Set the coil using a fealer gauge, I usually use the 12 mil gauge then rotate the fly wheel so it is against the coil pickups and tighten it. that will do it. Remember, since you are an OFNr you don't pay anything for labour so if you don't get it fixed elsewhare, take the auger off it and ship it up to me. I'll have it fixed and on its way back to you within 24 hours (as long as it is worth fixing and I can get the parts and I work on them almost every day this time of the year). Big Cliff
  13. Well, first of all, I really doubt it is your coil, as previously said, they don't fail very often, if you can get it up to me I can test that in about 20 seconds. Did you take your old one off to clean it? If so, what did you set the gap between the coil and flywheel to? It is really important that it be set properly. Before you go spending any money on parts make sure your compression is good on it otherwise you'll just be spending money for nothing. Again, if you can get it up to me, I'll be able to tell you if it is worth fixing or not.
  14. Why not just install it your self, it's quite easy. There are 4 bolts that hold the starter in and in most cases they will already be in the block, the top two are sholder bolts, you don't need to touch those, just remove the two bottom onesslip the starter up so that the slotted tabs fit under the sholder bolts, insert and tighten the two bottom bolts. Shouldn't take more that 20 minutes Max. New starters are usually between $150.00 and $200.00 bucks. You'll need your modle number and serial number to make sure you get the right one for that machine. As for the tune up on those units, I'm not even going to try to type out how to get at all the bushings, belts, bearing, and chains LOL.
  15. Good on you Rick!!!!!!
  16. Bring it over to me and since you are an OFNr I'll fix it for free, well, you pay for the parts. I'll bet though that some of the other posts are right on the money, dirt in the bowl, you'll need a 13 mm wrench to undo the nut that holds the bowl on, there are two ports one large, the second a very small one usually just above the threds on that bolt. clean with carb and choke cleaner and use a piece of fine wire to insure it isn't plugged. Then remove the fuel line at the carb and let some gas run through it to flush any dirt or water that might be in the line. That should solve your problem. Make sure that when you put the bowl back on that you get a good seal, often the bowl gasket needs to be replaced as they tend to swell and it can be hard to get a good seal. Or, as I said, bring it over to me.
  17. ya but what a shot that would make!!!!!!! Actually though there are reports of big pike taking a shot at them, some even damaging the wires.
  18. I have an Aqua View Scout but it wouldn't be suitable for trolling at those speeds.
  19. I did some more checking and Sears had them (not on special) but when I went to their web site it said "product not available at this time". It doesn't give any idea of when it might be available. You might want to try calling Sears and see what they have to say.
  20. Sorry Moe, I checked Lindsay, Fenelon Falls, and Port Perry, nothing.
  21. Had a wonderful time pier fishing down there last Jan.. Go to BPS down there and you can buy a good rod, reel, and a small assortment of tackle for about $20.00 (they sell it as a package). You can buy bait right at the pier but it is better to just go and buy some shrimp at the local grocery store. I caught all sorts of things, skate, sharks, eel, an assortment of smaller pan fish, blue crab, nothing huge, many of the sharks were in the 20 lb range and put up one heck of a fight, the skate will make you think you have something huge on your line boy do they ever give you a good run for your money. You are not supposed to target sharks and must release them but it doesn't matter what you are fishing for, you will probably get sharks anyway. You'll find that most of the people who pier fish are very friendly and helpful, don't be shy, introduce your self be polite, and you'll make new friends almost instantly. Fishing that time of the year is really slow, I did look into a charter but there wasn't many available and the ones that were were not getting very good results. Apache Pier is the longest pier on the East coast of the USA (about 1/4 mile if I remember corectly). One of the things I liked about it was that you can come and go as you please, no worrying about staying out all day (a day pass at the pier lets you come and go as often as you want), even if the seas are rough, you don't have to worry about getting sea sick, and it isn't expensive, a day pass was under $10.00. If you want more info, just let me know.
  22. I am so sorry for your loss. That picture is wonderful, it tells so much about her life and your relationship. I'm sure she would want you to celibrate her life rather than mourn her passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Cliff & Sue
  23. ???????? Sounds like there might be more to this story!
  24. Well, the first thing that comes to mind for me is "do 100 things right and no one remembers, do 1 thing wrong and no one forgets"! Cops are people too, there are good and bad ones, fortunatly most of them are good. I'd want to know the facts before I made a judgement call but I would always give them the benifit of the doubt (oh wait, I do that with everyone!) LOL I think this is a really good thread though, informative and thought provoking.
  25. A couple of weeks ago I posted looking for anything with a small gas engine on it for me to putter with, work on (hopfully repair). Several of you have been kind enough to donate various items and it is very much appreciated. Most of them can and will be repaired to work again, the few that are beyond reasonable repair will be used for spare parts and the remainder will be recycled for scrap metal so little if anything will end up in a land fill. Sometimes though people just go that extra mile for you: Saturday Will showed up at my door with some stuff for me, he had gone down to Mark's place in Oshawa and picked up a couple of items (thank you Mark) and drove them all the way up here to me in Lindsay. We sat and had a coffee and talked fishing for a bit and when it was time for him to leave, I offered to give him something for gas. He wouldn't take anything! An hour later a friend who lives in Godrich showed up at my door, he had stopped by John's place in Stratford and picked up a leaf blower/vaccuum which John had donated. (Thank you John!) He drove all that way knowing that the weather reports were calling for a mixed bag of bad stuff so he could bring it and a lawn mower down to me. He isn't an OFNr yet but I'm working on him LOL. Once again I just wanted to say thank you to all those people who continue to help me find projects to work on and I only hope I can someday repay the generosity that seems to be so limitless on this board.
