  9. After putting up a post last week about perch of Beaverton and getting indications that things weren't going to well, I am wondering if anyone has used an outfitter on Simcoe who IS having success with perch this year. Would love to get out next week sometime, but want to catch fish this time. Does anyone know? Thanks
  10. Thanks for your input Chris, very iinteresting comments
  11. Oh ya for sure. That is one aspect of the trip that could easily change.
  12. I was hoping you would reply, thanks very much. I have been interested in the Wenebegon cabin for a few years now, having fished Wakami a couple of times, I know the area a little bit and have always wondered if there was a way in to Wenebegon in order to camp there. Problem with paying to go in is our budget, two of us aren't exactly rich and it would be difficult to put that kind of money away and save for the additional costs of the trip as well, food, gas etc. Out of curiousity though, what would it cost for the fly-in you mention? Feel free to PM me if you want.
  13. My brother, brother-in-law (who will be turning 65) and myself have started the early planning stages of a trip for 2016 to celebrate his "old age". We plan on doing this when we all turn the same age, he will be the first, I'm still a long way off. The reason for the early start is try and book this year, hoping to secure 2015 rates. Anyway, I have started looking for camps and began looking in the Wawa to Chapleau area off of #101 and have come across several that look good. Looking at housekeeping rates in the $300 per week per person range, would like good fishing, I know pike are generally cooperative, but would like to fish a lake where a man could get a limit of pickerel every day, bass, lakers and whitefish would be nice as well. Want a lake that has some fishable water even on windy days. Also looking at a mid September timeline, to increase our chances of catching whitefish. So far the list I have started includes camps on Windermere Lake, Como Lake, Dog Lake and one that looks very interesting on Murray Lake on the way to Dog Lake. They seem to be in the process of upgrading their cabins and the rates are good and the lake does as well. I am looking for input who from anyone who has fished this area, where did you stay, or if you actually stayed at the resorts on the lakes listed above. Or... recommendations of another area/place to go with the same sort of driving range (10-12 hrs). Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
  14. Green energy as in $$$$$ energy. Bunch of Bull. If it ever gets built, I'm all for some vertical jigging with some sharp hooks.
  15. My buddy did that with his truck back in '95 when we went to Wakami Lake for a 5 day trip. Bed across the top of the wheel wells, slide outs underneath big enough to hold rubbermaids for clothing and food, fan in the top of the cap for air flow. Worked like a charm. He slept well, I didn't listening to his drunk @ss snore half the night. Great trip though.
  16. Has anyone had any personal success, or know if the perch fishing off Beaverton is any good right now? Went twice last year, Floyd Hales, got one lousy perch. So want to make sure they are biting better this year before I spend any more money. Any info would be great. Thanks
  17. Holy crap, some common sense prevailed. Good thing I was sitting down when I read this.
  18. Here are the tournament results: http://icefishing.org/leaderboard/index.htm Tournament page: http://icefishing.org/
  19. not much snow out there either by the looks of it. ice is probably really thick without any snow insulating it.
  20. They do need to be told not to look while it's there though and that is the issue. So what if it's not their cup of tea, will it really kill them for 2 months? The bottom line is, the kids are the ones that lose out. And speaking of the law, what kind of law can charge someone up to $25,000 for a 16x20 rink on a lawn, yet people abuse our natural resources and get slapped on the wrist? The world is a very backwards place.
  21. Yes wormdunker, but this issue goes far deeper than having a rink on the front yard, it's about people having the freedom to do what they want on the land they own, without having Mr. & Mrs. Perfect down the street complaining about the "unsightly" blue tarp.
  22. So people should just suck it up and let all the little whiners get their way? When does someone finally stand up and say enough is enough? It's a rink, it gets the kids out of the house, away from the boob tube and video games for a while, it's not a car turned upside down on the front lawn, it won't even be there 2 months from now. People will complain, you're right, but those same people should then be told "if you don't like it, don't look at it".
  23. Please read the article. I'm sure you wouldn't have made your post if you knew the reason for it being in the front yard.
  24. Outfitters were already there, in most instances, many, many years before. Clients got cheesed off when people were able to gain access to what they thought were "fly-in only" lakes.
