  2. Fishgreg and I are going in July - we will put a day by day review of LOTW here as i know many of our friends will be interested and I hope all will enjoy. We are looking for any help and advice we can get. Thanks in advance for any assistance John
  3. Why haven't we seen any fish from my partner yet? Well, the action for Cowanjo was unfortunately...lacking on day 1. I could ask the same about day two and my partner on day two maybe your guide didnt give you the right lure on day two!!! I must say that Craigs first musky in photo above was really solid one of the biggest shouldered fish i have seen, i look forward to seeing her again in five years time. What a trip - both Craig and Greg are great company and very good hard core fisherman. I look forward to a musky photo at lotw to make a new PB, so far now have a 28 and half inch walleye for team 8 and havent deemed any of my musky big enough to warrant entry! Thanks again craig you can destroy my lures anytime! I also thank greg and Craig for working out a new pattern with me which we will need to refined......picture of the brutes to follow and maybe a PB which I think head shaked me off on Day two.
  4. Hi Everyone the weekend was tough to have sharpened hooks and waited for the open, I had family commitments and enjoyed every moment, my kids are awesome but on with fishing. Baseball Friday night and Saturday morning and another game at lunch time plus my daughter dance recitals. Mid afternoon my wife said stop looking glum, you mowed lawna nd did all the family stuff and go fishing - so in the car I went for a two hour trip to my cottage. Got some partners for Saturday afternoon from seven to dark - fished with kevin and martin (Kevin got a small one maybe 30 no photo here) we go into home lake and land one almost immediately then back to my place for a beer, I am still choming for more so we wait for the storm to pass and go back out. Sunday chores to do at cottage so had only the opportunity to fish for a couple of hours. Here are the new members of the 2013 group of slimey friends. Number one - caught in open water measured 39 inches early was still raining on us in grey skies - note looks like i had fingers in its mouth but honestly all my hands are still were they are meant to be Head back out after change of clothes and beer (one!!) Number two - caught in 15-18 feet casting weed edge measures 46 inches Number Three caught next cast after number two measured almost 40 ok i will call it 39 but would need to stretch its tail Sunday had to fish by myself so sorry about the photos, but those who know the size of the stowmaster will understand these were not that small, note i never picked them up or put them in boat so no idea of size Fish 1 caught in 22 feet over deep edge and rock Fish Two caught after I see a splash and motor over to some floating weed clump. I hope everyone is having a season like mine it has been a great start. Enjoy and maybe someone will crew with me next sunday (Fishgreg )
  5. Wasnt that bad maybe you should accept gifts from the back of the boat!musky has been tough three on a weekend no complaints from my team
  6. I hope to see Lew and Dax in Pigeon - after going to Kentucky a few weeks ago I cannot sleep. hope fisher greg appears on my dock Saturday morning at 5am. good luck to all.
  7. HI guys and gals, if you are like me sitting around and sharpening lures was driving me crazy waiting for the season too open, we therefore decided we should drive to Kentucky last Thursday Night (11 hours) and fish for three days and return. The biggest problem was after deciding to go we found out there was a big fishing tourney on the lake. 75 boats two anglers in each- we decided not to enter at $700 a team. So pretty crowded but we met some unbelievable nice people who helped us out, in the end the tourney caught on saturday and Sunday 61 fish total. Anyway so my mate gary and I headed to Kentucky with no real knowledge of the lake, a good solid plan however to chase spring musky - water temp down there was 63.5 - got up to 67 - we threw Handlebarz and Red Octobers - was tough fishing lake is clear with some weeds (In one area and then loads of timber - In the end we caught two - both on Sunday - we lost a fish on friday and Saturday Here are some of the big girls from the south.
  8. In australia in the murray and murrimbidgee rivers system they introduced european carp - yes it is as bad as it sounds, my brother now makes fertilizer from them - he harvests via electrocution. All native species remains and survival is remarkable better than i would have expected (He actually loves fishing so he has evolving techniques). In his stretch of the river the cod has made a return as well as yellow belly - there are mechanisms. Just saying there not good but if they get in the trent in Canada it may take something like this to slow there progress.
  9. Agree give taro a call he is awesome. unbelievable guide and great guy as well
  10. I have a 300 and if you decide to go this way PM me and you can have at at a great price,. I had the same thoughts and now am a huge revo toro winch fan, would not recommend anything else. I have a 300, 300 ej and winch. The later i will keep but would refer you to a winch. the best deal i have seen and used is jacksons lures good guys and 50 worth of lures in return for a good price.
  11. I will get the pitch of the prop this weekend, as my partner above indicates when we get up and going no issue getting up and going with three guys and far too many musky lures in the back takes some movement of weight forward. I note with interest how we got up on plane quickly with first day three musky man at the front. Thanks as always for the help guys.
  12. Good Afternoon, sitting inside thinking about lake of the woods and making sure I have a second prop. Looking around seems the above is new http://www.mercurymarine.com/propellers/aluminum/spitfire/ I have a 60HP 2010 4stroke EFI on my Smokercraft proangler XL. Does anyone have a view on these and are they worth the difference. Secondly was thinking of maybe 14 pitch? Any help and thoughts would be greatfully accepted
  13. Hey Greg I ordered the map from thorne bros and will work out how you can get this on the 19th of Feb. In the interim if you work out how to get this online let me know. John
  14. I have a smokercraft proangler same as you iterate from two years ago, awesome boat. issue i had was livewell and they fixed it twice at no charge. i like it but i dont have the experience of everyone else here.
  15. They can come from really good families it impacts all walks of life, mental health is a major issue, without fishing how many of us would have different personalities and each of us probably indicated we would give something up a new years (beers my obsession with musky baits) but they just cant. My mother told me to give someone food everyday. i do it every single day in downtown it is only an apple or something from home. Maybe we should all try to do a small piece this year. Weare also lucky compared to many other countries
  16. Outstanding and you really need to start planning 2012 now. Must beat 1000 walleye ... going to be tough.Well done Mike awesome
  17. Mate they are going to get your place in my boat in the fall....at my cottage!!! Had a few interested parties. sort of a one week deal not sure can make them catch three musky first day out later!
  18. Ok So I am thinking of taking my boat and gear and heading to the school,i went to wisconsin last year it was unbelievable but lake of the woods is the holy grail have a mate from Australia who wants to partner (for those who met brownie and fished with him this year he may well come and just fly and pay the camp anyway with a guide) and a couple of non fisherman mates wanting to go but am concerned with the what ifs - please see http://www.muskyhunter.com/university-of-esox/ for information So If your willing to pay for the school and do some driving infact most! as i drive like mr magoo in my subaru I am going so im picking up all the rest of the getting there and back costs could be a trip of the lifetime. Some of the guys here will tell you i am australian and am a mad fisherman, so we will be going hard if we go. I will be leaving from Toronto (Kawartha Lakes) Ok so what are the people thoughts here of lake of the woods
  19. Awesome report for all the people on the couch i am jealous. per your pm look forward to sharing a boat in 2012 John
  20. Paul I agree with pigeon - i have a big nasty and a sling blade, you cant go any better than st croix legend tourney. The two listed are unbelievable i have a 300 EJ and revo winch both are for casting. I also have a tm73mhf your welcome to that I dont use anymore. Strange I had a 300e on this! ill ship you a PM. Anyway love to see what you get and how it performs for musky number two! John
  21. Mike again outstanding - I cannot wait to share a couple of days with you next year - good clean outstanding action! I am getting cabin fever after putting boat away last weekend.
  22. Mike, I heard greats stories about your family and dad from you when we fished. Your a reflection of his outstanding values. My family best thoughts and wishes are with you now Your friend John
  23. I have read a great deal of Nf and thought some would like to see my passion. I fished with my mate gary on the weekend a very tough weekend. Many follows one takers lost by Gary at boat on Saturday but no other takers, finally sunday morning when you only have an hour you catch straight away. Another nice solid fish for 2011. Thanks to everyone who has fished with me this year it has been awesome and sorry for the sore shoulders. The first year that I spent casting the majority of time with zero on the troll!
  24. on pigeon today 46.7 to 47.4 bald lake area is about three degree lower. Pictures to follow. Tough conditions
  25. Hey craig - so reading this you were outfished by an 85 year old. I think i runined fishing for you due to the way you had to learn fight musky! Me telling you set the hook - you probably stressed the knot with your new technique. Awesome report as always.
