You may not even need the wood. You can put a piece of plywood on the ground to protect the skeg and driveway from damage remove the top bolts, loosen the bottom ones and crank the front up as you said. It works very well. I recently replaced the bunks on my trailer using the same technique. Crank the tongue as low as it will go, put axel stands with wood blocks under the rear corners of the boat, crank the front as high as it will go, block up under the bow and lower the tongue a few inches to take the weight off the trailer. Now your traile and boat are separated by a few inches. Enough space to get under and work on the trailer bunks. Sure beats trying to do it in the parking lot at the ramp.

Solopaddler used to have one of the older ones and said he liked it. In fact I was talking to him about purchasing a Zodiac fly in trips up here in the NWT and he said the Porta-Boat was a much better choice for flying in. He said that they were very stable, fairly easy to setup an super easy to fly in as they fold and can easily be strapped to a pontoon strut while offering a lot less wind resistance than a tinny, canoe etc. They are quite spendy though, but they do have their advantages.

I was in a Mexican restaurant yesterday when I suddenly realized I desperately needed to fart. The music was really, really loud, so I timed my farts with the beat. After a couple of songs, I started to feel better. I finished my lunch and noticed that everybody was staring at me. Then I suddenly remembered that I was listening to my iPod.

Adjustments on the compas took care of it. With my antenna being so close to my depthfinder it really messes with it during transmitting. One of these days I'll relocate the antenna, maybe when install my new finder.

I like my solid back plate reels. I tend to lie them in the dirt and river when releasing fish and have fewer issues with grit. But as Mike says a swish and spin under water usually fixes 'er up.

An HDS 10 with side imaging is in the future (maybe with next years income tax refund) I got a wheel, it's Italian and it's purdy.

Fixed, way more power and range. I put a new radio in last year that is very good, very small and waterproof. For under $200 US it's a fine radio with lots of features. Also make sure you buy a decent antenna. ICOM M304 Marine Radio I flush mounted mine in the console of my 18' Fisher.

You forgot the bouyant heaving line. Just buy one of these at Canadian tire for $9.99 and you will have heaving line, whistle, flashlight and bailing bucket. The key hole pfd's are legal just uncomfortable if you are wearing them. I have one of the inflatable pfd's I wear when floating the rivers and when running from spot to spot in the boat. While spendy, I don't even realize I'm wearing it and if you aren't wearing it it's not really doing it's job is it.

They are great. Don't leave them fully inflated while out of the water as the sun's heat will build up the pressure in them. If the pontoons are fabric covered don't drag the boat around or they will wear quickly (especially the threads). Make sure they are dry before storing if fabric covered pontoons to avoid mildew and rot. I usually take my pump and repair kit with me, just in case. Have fun!!!!
