it all depends on where on VI you are staying. You can fish for anything salmonid to sm bass out there. Lots of small streams and lakes to be fished. Be VERY prudent about how you fish and watch the regs for exactly where you're going to be fishing. Regs can vary from stream to stream(barbless singles/no live bait). Find the FISHBC website and the people there will maybe help, they can be a fickle lot though. Good luck!

lucky they let you go Jaime, I've heard what happens to pretty-boy Canucks in their holding pens...you don't want to know -
Great report, Hook! If I wasn't sold before, I'm sold now! Sounds like an awesome time. Really looking forward to the rest of the pics. Congrats on the PB!

Just got back from the cottage. Was kind of hesitant to bring the boat up just for the day, what with the forecast being so crummy. But I knew that if I didn't bring it, I would have woken up to mile high blue skies and been kicking myself for not bringing it. The plan was to get into some good laker action today. But alas, it wasn't to be. the winds were blasting from the East last night and switched to a strong South wind today. You'd think that would be favourable but I couldn't find one for the life of me. Every single spot yielded fish, don't get me wrong. But at this time of the year smallies and muskie don't count. I did pick up a new Stradic which handled the ski and smallmouth with ease. The drag on it is awesome. I tried deep, shallow, jigging, jerking, trolling, casting....nada. Husky Jerks accounted for all fish. Water was a balmy 42deg. Also tried Berkleys Vanish Transition line and exept for one fish that broke me off(I didn't re-tie after the 'ski) handled very well also. Guess its piking time now.

Sounds like a grewat day man. looks like you're trying to do an on-board live release lol. Congrats on a good day!

guys, check your regs before you head out. T.O. harbour is part of Div. 16. I posted a thread asking about the boundary regs. I never got a for sure answer, but I'd call ahead just to be sure. I'm definately going to be getting out next weekend, though. If it is open, good luck to you!

I just wish the Rangers would've played all series like they did last night. Although I do think theres a bit of a bias toward the Pens on the refs part

Heres an "ATTA BOY" for you Coach! Congrats on what I'm guessing is the first legal bass of the tourney! Sabiki Slammers on three. 1...2...3...SABIKISLAMMERS!

Lots of bass in Little Redstone. I only fished it a couple of times, but it was a blast. There were largemouth as well as smallies. Don't go out thinking that your in for a weekend of hawgs, but you won't be dissapointed in the numbers. Not that there arent big fish there, there might be. But from what I remember, most of the bigger fish were 1.5-2lb range. Redstone is a different story. Some big smallies in there.

Pike at Toronto, Open May 1st? Or do the boundaries for Division 20(Lake O.) include the islands or other shore spots? If you're fishing the islands, is it Division 20, or Division 16? Thanks.

If the weather holds off in Haliburton, I'll be on the water looking for Lakers. If that doesn't happen....I'll still be fishing.

Things people don't know about the highway traffic act

A fellow I knew back in high school killed someone passing on a double solid. When it came to court, he was let off on that very technicality. It is advised/suggested that you don't pass on a double. Very unfortunate. -
How many have switched from grubs to tubes to senkos? I try and keep in mind techniques that have helped over the years. Last year I remember a real slow bite and was skunked up to this point. I found a pack of largemouth and threw just about every "modern" technique I could think of. Still the smell remained. I took out a pack of 7" power worms that had been sitting in the bottom of the box for I don't know how long and threw one on a 1/4oz ballhead jig. Wouldn't you know it, I went through the whole bag and caught largie after Largie. Since then, the jig and worm combo was brought back to life! Man I can't wait to get out there.

Basskicker, You might want to think about tinting your windows. Like Sinker, I've got all my one-piece rods from the passenger side floor, butt down, between the two seats. Get two elastic bands and tie up the tips and butts so the rods aren't all over the place. If I only have to put a 2 piece or 3 in the trunk, I'll remove the reels and put them in socks. Tube socks. White or grey, wool or cotton. The choices are endless really. The rods go on top of everything else.

Sure the muskie swims away, but who records it in a tourney situation? Like Steve said, photos create controversy. Although I have a feeling the guy doing the complaining is the guy in 2nd place

No problem Hookset, I understand hasty posting . Steve, I've seen fish from 43-48in out of there. I'm not saying I'm personally going to get one of them myself, because I haven't. But I'm trying to point out one of the inherant problems with tourney fishing. Lack of flexibility is one of the major problems with getting new blood out there. And throwing a post-spawn pike that desn't comfortably fit can't be good for a fish trying to get its mojo back. I'd be interested in how the musky tourney guys do it. I can't imagine they try and stuff as many 'skis in their livewells as possible.

I don't know that anyones trying to change rules. Im just asking what kind of...whatever man. If the livewell is too small, fish somewhere else? Why not. Maybe I'll go to Couch and try to catch some pike regardless. But if my livewell is too small, I should fish another lake, because my live release tools aren't enough. I really should have a bigger livewell in order to fish Lake Couchiching. Great idea. Good luck with your tourney, Steve.

Im thinking it would be great fun, but just need a better idea of how to transport the fish. Not all of us have a 50in livewell, you know? I just don't get how you're supposed to fit a 30+in fish in a small space like that and expect it to live?
-
Good to know. Thanks Singingdog, lakers will be-a-calling soon!
-
Have some good homework that will be bookending Saturdays UFC tilt. Should be a good'un. But now people are talking about lakers...I may get the boat out for a cleaning at some point. Just to break up the monotony. After May 2nd I can fish my heart out. For now, study.
-
My livewell is only about 26in or so. IF I were to enter, I don't think I would be able to stuff a pike, let alone 3, in there.
-
Thanks for that, wallacio. Thats encouraging to know. I was wrong and I'll admit it.

I'd like to see the numbers in 5-10 yrs if they stopped stocking steelhead in the streams. If you think it isn't put and take you're a little deluded. I commend the folks at Metro E.Anglers, and others that put as much into it as they do. Without them, that fishery would have and would collapse if left to its own devices.

Is it me, or did the regs change for trout opener? I could swear it was always 3rd Sat. in April, now they've moved it to 4th week? For a put-and-take fishery, it seems kind of silly to move this date. If it indeed got moved, that is.
