  1. Dear Mr. Harper:

Please find below our suggestion for fixing Canada 's economy.

Instead of giving billions of dollars to banks that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.

You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan:

There are about 10 million people over 50 in the work force.
Pay them 1 million dollars each severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:

    1) They MUST retire.
    Ten million job openings -
    unemployment fixed
    2) They MUST buy a new car.
    Ten million cars ordered -
    Car Industry fixed
    3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage -
    Housing Crisis fixed
    4) They MUST send their kids to school/college/university -
    Crime rate fixed
    5) They MUST buy $50 WORTH of alcohol/tobacco a week .....
And there's your money back in duty/tax etc

It can't get any easier than that!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members of parliament pay back their falsely claimed expenses and second home allowances

If you think this would work, please forward to everyone you know.

    Also..
How about putting the very elderly pensioners in jail and the criminals in a nursing home..

That way the pensioners would have access to showers, hobbies and walks. They'd receive unlimited free prescriptions, dental and medical treatment, wheel chairs etc and they'd receive money instead of paying it out.

They would have constant video monitoring, so they could be helped instantly, if they fell, or needed assistance. Bedding would be washed twice a week, and all clothing would be ironed and returned to them.

A guard would check on them every 20 minutes and bring their meals and snacks to their cell.

They would have family visits in a suite built for that purpose.

They would have access to a library, weight room, spiritual counselling, pool and education.

Simple clothing, shoes, slippers, PJ's and legal aid would be free, on request.

Private, secure rooms for all, with an exercise outdoor yard, with gardens.

Each senior could have a PC, a TV, radio and daily phone calls.

There would be a board of directors to hear complaints, and the guards would have a code of conduct that would be strictly adhered to.

The criminals would get cold food, be left all alone and unsupervised. Lights off at 8pm, and showers once a week. Live in a tiny room and pay $300.00 per week and with little hope of ever getting out.

  2. Isn't this the very same "new" Ontario government that just let the Indians set up gill nets from Goderich to Owen Sound?

Yes, I'm sure that initiative will go a long way toward protecting fisheries. Nothing like a few miles of gill nets to put more fish in the system.

    Idiots.

With the courts backing native fishing rights claims, it's not likely the province is negotiating from a position of strength

  3. How was the ice? I'm guessing pretty much glare with no snow? I'll be out there tomorrow but haven't decide on the location as of yet.

4" of white with 8" of black, and some water pockets. Shore ice is getting a little iffy. One skidoo went through at shore and was being towed out.

The garbage can was overflowing with trash and TP. I don't think the new owners have a clue. I've noticed on more than one occassion, that immigrant buyers see the financial potential of the resort industry, but really have no idea on how to operate a recreational business.

  4. Got an invite to hit SImcoe before the huts got pulled. Apparently, a friend had swung a special package for the hut. We were a little disappointed when we got there. Overflowing garbage :glare: from previous occupants was still in the huts. The taxi equipment was in rough shape (thought we might have to push the argo home :dunno: ) . Hut heater worked great, but the only way to vent the shack was to leave the door open. I realize the owner has only had the business 2 years, but equipment needs to be maintained.

As for the fishing, the huts were in 25-30 FOW off Pt Bolster, and the bite was slow and soft.

The group of us probably caught, in total, 100 perch, all dinks. There were a couple herring to give excitement . I even "found" one of them ellusive whitefish everyone was talking about. Shook him off at the hole to watch him slowly sink and chum the waters.

All the same. it was a beautiful bluebird day. I had good company, and we caught fish. and I am grateful for getting an opportunity to finally get up to Simcoe this ice season.

  5. While i can't claim to be the voice of HAFFT, I am a member and we don't have anything on that weekend (unless it's being kept very quiet! :))

Last year the Izaak Walton Fly Forum was at the Hamilton Convention Centre, this year, it was combined with the Sportsman's Show in Toronto. The New Fly Fisher Symposium was supposed to be next weekend but that has been moved to November and it's in Mississauga http://www.thenewflyfisher.com/fly-fishing-symposium.php

There were a number of people still thinking it was on for next week, talking about it at the Ft Erie show. I heard about it through a fly tyer who was quite excited about the event. Boy is he gonna be disappointed.

  6. My babies have been plastered all over the forum over the years.

One of the original ideas behind March break, at least in eastern Canada, was sugaring off. The whole family would be involved in the harvest with the fires running constant and non stop. Maple sugar was a traded commodity, and for many, the only supply of household sugar, being boiled down until granular and molded into loaves. All that remains of that process, today outside of aboriginal use, is the sugar candies that some places still make.
