  1. Anytime ya get a 14 year old girl (these days) to say Id love to go fishing with dad..........Ya got somethin special!

(although the day off of school might have something to do with that lol) J/K. You definitely must have a great relationship for her to still be trompin around the streams with you. I just cant seem to get my 13year old niece (ive raised her like a daughter) into the fishing thing,......, she loves camping and going out on the boat,etc.......but likes the boat ride more than the fishing. And its not lack of fish, shes caught some trophy smallies this year, and is very proud when she does, gets excited and all.....but loses interest EVEN AFTER catching Big Ole Bass lol. Ah well, the most important thing is letting them be what they want to be i guess and try not to force it. 13!!.......MY GOSH!! Never thought id say that!!!!

My daughter is 16 now. She now starts the discussion with "so when we going fishing?" The answer is "anytime you want". She beats the shore with me or she runs the boat while I just work the troller. At times Anna just wants to catch some rays or take some neat pics ( she's done some great photo essays). I'll even let her drag along the latest 'boytoy' ( I need someone to pick on  ) The best part? This is true for any parent. My kids want to be with me.

  2. Can you tell me why the red panties and black strap bra are doing on the floor? :whistling::clapping::thumbsup_anim:

    cheers

If I gotta do all the cooking, wifey's got to do the entertaining :whistling::P

Lucky guy! All we ever get dropped on our doorstep are 50 pound zucchini. Try and make a cobbler out of that

Battered deep fried zucchini sticks with Tzatziki or wild garlic and chive dip. Yum Yum

The joys of living in a farm community. A lot of barter.

  3. I had hopes of going out again and beating up on some fishies seeing as I was having so much fun yesterday. When I got home there were 1, then 2, bushels of tomatoes, a 1/4 bushel of peppers, and a 1/2 bushel of pears waiting on the doorstep. So much for any fishing plans. Round one produced the following. 4 pans of pear cobbler DSCN2190.jpg

    1 1/2 gallons of salsa

Plus I managed to bag and freeze another 60lbs of tomato.

I am now on round two. In the pots are 4 gallons of pasta sauce and another gallon of my "Roadkill Chilli" :whistling:

    DSCN2193.jpg

Once I get that done I still have this to process.

It can be a long cold winter, but we won't starve :D I'll surely need to go fishinh tomorrow after this is all done.

  4. sorry to hear that bruce i didnt have a clue. These charities are phenominal and do alot of good for these terminally ill children.

Thanks to the good Lord, and the help and benevolence of many, My daughter is a fine and healthy specimen of a young woman.

Thankfully, I get to see that reminder every morning, and I am content (even if she does whoop me fishing some days.)

  5. I don't know what crawled up yer shorts last night to set yer b---s on fire last night! However, I will give you a little story.

    DSCN1813.jpg

Pictured above is my daughter Anna. The apple of my eye. My pride and joy ( despite being a teenager). From the pic you would never know she had serious health problems. At age 4, Anna had serious problems and the Shrine stepped in to look after her in every way possible. Without the help of this charity we would have lost her. While she was hospitalized, we weren't working and members of the church and local benevolent funds help us pay our bills. Without these charities we would have lost our home. She took nearly 2 years to recover from this surgery (one of several) In that time we had a very unhappy, uncomfortable and pained child. Along came the Sunshine Wish Foundation to whisk her off to DisneyWorld and be trated like the queen of the land. They got her to smile and laugh again. They put an even bigger and stupider grin on my Ugli mug.

The points to the story are these.

    1) Nobody had to help anybody out. They did freely out of good will.

    2) Those who benefit from the efforts of these charities do not care how the money was raised. We were just thankful they were there in an hour of need.

    3) If they had fun raising money fishing, golfing, playing poker, drinking, etc... . I hope they had a great time. It's a wonderful feeling to be able to do good while feeling good. Nobody questions a Lion or Kin when they have a good time fundraising, and we dig deep into our pockets. IF this is how we can put more funds into the warchest, so be it. It just means more will benefit.

I hope I haven't bored you all with my dribble story, but I felt you need to hear it from a recipient's point of view.

  6. You'll get that smallie next time. What kind of snake is that?

Not 100% on the snake I.D. Being juvenile it is really difficult to differentiate between a water snake and a milk snake. Lacking any hint of red in the skin I would think more likely a water snake.

  7. hey Bruce...aren't ya pushing your luck a bit there man....didn't we just get back from a 3 day fishing trip

I think you have the bug worse then I thought :w00t::w00t:

At 9:30 everybody else was sleeping or passed out. If I'm feeling good I am not wasting my day indoors like the rest of the household. I get stuck at home enough already.

Right now I'm stewing up another batch of salsa ( like the batch we never cracked open at the trailer) Then I got another bushel of tomatoes dropped off at the house to be processed tonight. My neighbours can smell the cooking walking up the street for a block.

  8. Another quiet day spent walking some more trails and hit another section of L Gibson. The rain held off and the sun even chose to shine. The bite was good with some sizeable fish hitting both spinnerbaits and tubes.

This bass ate a tube. 17 inches and 2-2 1/2lbs.

    DSCN2185.jpg

    The smallies wanted the spinnerbait.

    DSCN2186.jpg

I didn't even notice this little fella. I just felt him strike at my trouser leg a couple of times. Must be from this year's hatch, just shy of 12"

    DSCN2188.jpg

There is one smallie there that got the better of me twice today. Probably close to the 20" mark. Took my spinnerbait into a tree to free himself in the morning. Went back to the same spot in the afternoon and he bit off my tube. I'll deal with him later ;)

  9. I've been very happy with my Legend over the past 7 years. If anything I wish it had a bigger livewell, say 40" long. I didn't do the motor upgrade which has saved a lot of $ in fuel. Besides, I'm not in a hurry on the water.

The son doesn't like the boat. Too small, too slow, not a bass boat, not a big name :blahblah1: Sorry for his luck

  10. OK Man!!! Best part of the report was the meal. That was sick... fried spuds, steak, chili, burgs, dogs and fish. That poor poor outhouse. lol.

You haven't been to one of the BigUgli's pot luck fish fries. 20lbs of fish, 20+ side dishes and a whole lotta beer. Nobody needs to eat the next day.

  11. QUOTE(GCD @ Sep 25 2008, 08:50 AM)

tradition would have it, we kept a sharp eye out for fresh road kill on the way up and it came in handy! Lester made an excellent pot roast of Groundhog one night and I prepared 'Possum hind quarters and Armadillo chops Nobody died, hurled, or had the Hershey squirts... so all was good!

Truly a man of similar tastes. Hope to meet up with you one day. We can swap recipes :P

  12. flyer is a must. Sucks it even happens in the first place. I'm sure if a demanded a mgr. a flyer wouldn't be necessary, but I'm generally in there on weekends and waiting for the on-duty mgr. can take a while so a flyer is the way to go.

Anyone know of any other chains with "regional pricing"?

Take a look at every grocery store or garden centre or lumber yard. Regional pricing provides a very comfortable margin to cover freight costs, etc...

Other chains may keep a chain wide price. It just means that the stores closer to point of supply have pricing that helps offset higher price costs in more remote areas.

Either way the customer pays. After all a business exists to make money, not lose it.
