There are a lot of forgotten skills that need to be relearnt, and fewer people left who can pass them on. Many don't want to listen and learn. We quickly forget that survival is based on self- reliance. It never hurts to keep a veggie patch, learn food preserving. Reduce the unnecessary extras we like to surround ourselves with. Berry picking and digging up roots are just as important as fishing and hunting.

I'm certain you could fill a book from the suggestions on this board. Easiest place to start is the grocery bill. I spend $250 for a family of 4 per month. That requires doing your homework weekly, avoiding impulse shopping, and dropping all the ready to serve/quick serve stuff from your grocery list. Drop the takeout and drop Timmies. Wife and I have various health issues the past few years so we are on a very limited budget. Neither of us is in a position to be working, so the budgeting lessons we learnt years back are what keep us afloat now

The boat is not big enough for Great Lakes running unless you're staying inside the 1 mile mark. As the others said, priced too high. As for appx weight: on trailer roughly 1000lbs. all out.

Mighty fine collection of tackle. Hope you don't plan on humping it all along a shoreline trail. I do love backpack fishing. You cannot carry it all. You select a few key items and the necessary bits of terminal tackle to fill 2 medium trays. Remember to have some downsized baits for tough bites days. I carry 2 rods. A shorter baitcaster and an U/L spinning rod for finesse. By the time you have 2 trays, tools, camera, tape, snack, bug juice, etc... plus your two rods, you have more than enough to carry around. You still have to be able to fish and move around comfortably without having 20-30lbs. on your back.

Finally got a few varieties tied since then.

Game fish have been commercially sold in the past. Pike from Manitoba is the most obvious. It wasn't taken in provincial waters and you have a receipt. Seeing as the LM was in a tank of live hybrid stripers or white bass, it is probable they are farm raised and not product of ontario waters.. I do recall 20 years back a fishmonger in Kensington getting pinched for selling bass
