I've fished outta there several times - never caught anything - seen people catch Catfish, Carp and the odd Bass or two...
-
I've had quite a bit of luck from shore... never tried from a boat. If you do - post a report!

Because I knew that all types of Trout/Salmon were in season for that particular zone. -
Hey Folks, So, I headed to my grandparents & cousins place for the weekend - Was looking forward to Bass-Opener ALL WEEKEND. Managed to fish on the Saturday night.....casted for literally about 25min.....and landed this gorgeous fish.... *Sorry for the blurr, my camera decided to be stupid all the sudden * Decided to take it home and cook it up... Now I have NOOOO IDEAAAA what the name of this fish is.... but I've seen a few of you guys/gals catching this before......and its a gorgeous looking fish!! Oh... want to hear the best part? I didn't know such a 'Graceful' looking fish would have teeth.....WOW did it hurt!! I was ABOUT to try and lip it... but saw really jagged teeth...and was like..."what the hell?"....so, I decided to gill/lift it.... my finger went deep enough that my finger landed on a tooth - and as it decided to trash.... it sliced my finger nicely. So... needless to say... it now takes me an extra 2min to tie my shoe! What is the name of this fish anyway? What's the average size? Thanks Folks! Hopefully the next outing will have bass.....and not another 'specie' i can cross off my list - then again, its not a 'terrible' idea...right? Cyaz!! Rob PS: The weapon of choice was... what I call my "Steak and Potatoes"... good old "Dave Mercer's: Mercer's Magic". The worst part about this whole trip - I USED to have 3-4 of these MERCER'S MAGIC... lost 3 of them (from previous fishing trips).... last one was caught on the rocks courtesy of "The Wife" *DA! DA! DAAAA!!* ... couldn't get it loose for the life of me.... line eventually snapped! EDIT: MORE PICTURES of the FISH - TOOK IT OFF FIANCEE's LAPTOP/CAMERA - I knew I was gonna marry her for something!

Anti-Hunters are one thing, but come on Anti-Fishing - Give me a break
rbaquial replied to NAW's topic in General Discussion
A couple good responses I like to use are.... 1) "We're Hunters/Gatherers by Nature".... (Thanks to OFAH for this one!) 2) "What do you think humans did to survive thousands/millions of years ago before grocery stores were ever around? We hunted/gathered food to survive.... some instincts are stronger than others..." 3) "Society is too domesticated and relies too much on grocery stores for its food...If there were some sort of natural disaster that affected the entire world - who do you think would survive? The hunters/gatherers.... why? Because its in our instinct/blood and we don't rely too heavily on grocery stores etc... for our food" If they're V3GAN or P3TA activists... I always like to use... ..."What? You don't think plants are hurt when you cut a limb to bear its fruit/vegetable? Just because it doesn't have a "voice" to hear it screaming in agony/pain? Give me a break - Human's are at the TOP of the FOOD CHAIN. If humans lived in a non-urban environment, like we did millions/thousands of years ago - you don't think BEARS, PANTHERS and other predators are hunting for food too - even humans for food?.... Just because we enjoy the hunt of an animal doesn't make us "barbaric"... How do you think your food gets on your table? SOMEONE had to have killed/harvested the animal... It doesn't appear on your table like magic!"... Anyway.... That's my grief! I hate being pestered by people saying us hunters are "barbaric". Obviously be wise in choosing a response. And like DANNYBOY said... They're just looking for attention anyway! -

....Hey Folks, So, a buddy of mine that I've been going fishing a lot with lately - finally decided to take Fishing as a more of a serious hobby. After catching HIS 1ST PIKE .... he decided to opt for his own equipment. So... Off to BPS we went - finally decided on a QUANTUM SNAPSHOT (MSRP: $39) and a BASS PRO SHOPS® GRAPHITE SERIES SPINNING ROD .... We spooled it up... and headed to the closest body of water to us... about 15min drive away. Not even 45min of fishing... He somehow managed to break a portion off of the fishing rod right near the very BASE of the ROD. Right where the CORK ends. The piece is probably no bigger than 1"... Anyway.... Here's a couple questions... **KEEP IN MIND: THE ROD WAS PURCHASED TODAY... AND IT BROKE THE SAME DAY - STILL HAS RECEIPT** 1) Has anyone every dealt with BPS in house brand WARRANTY? 2) If so, How does it work? Do they give you a new rod right on the spot? Is there any "Down Time"? If anyone has any input that they could provide, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in Advance, RoB

Hey OFC'ers, Just looking for some recommendations on what type of rod to use when throwing out some PLASTIC BAITS? (not the smaller stuff). Stuff like YUM BUZZFROG, DINGER (7")... things that have some sort of significant weight to it? I was thinking of a MH Power rod that is designed to throw baits within weight range of 3/8-1oz? Is that too much? What about for the smaller stuff? smaller jerkshads?... I was thinking for the smaller stuff to use a Medium Power rod that are designed to throw weights between 1/4 to 5/8oz? I'm just trying to get an idea of what you guys use when throwing out plastic baits.... EDIT: Forgot to mention, these are being thrown on a BAITCAST SETUP...or should I be using a SPINNING SETUP? Thanks in Advance! RoB

Just wondering if anyone's ever fished any of THESE 2 lakes in PALGRAVE, ON. Was just wondering what fish can be expected to catch out of there... I'm heading up to my future In-Law's place... They live about 20min out... Also... Gibson Lake to the EAST... Anyone know if you can fish from shore there? (I know the smaller lake to the WEST has fishing spots from shore) Any input would be much appreciated... Thanks in Advance, RoB

Help Please- Topics for Kids fishing Seminar
rbaquial replied to tschirk's topic in General Discussion
Been thinking lately about this post... I had some cool idea's for prizes... Giveaway prizes ideas... Spirderman Fishing Rod Dora the Explorer Rod Things of that nature.... *obviously if money isn't an issue* -
Nice lookin lure - I'm gonna checkout my local Crappy Tire... see if I can give 'em a try... they look pretty promising.
-
Just thought I'd bring up this topic again.... Anyone give these a try yet? The amount sold 'per package' is really turning me off from buying them... I really like the fact its Biodegradable though (I didn't know they were before). Still prefer Gulp!Alive.... more per package and it seems more reasonable in terms of price.

Help Please- Topics for Kids fishing Seminar
rbaquial replied to tschirk's topic in General Discussion
That's very generous of you dude! Wicked of you to do that! Here's my opinion... 1) SAFETY 1st! (always) that's definitely a topic that needs to be discussed with the kids....1st and foremost. - Discuss how important is it is know where the "hook" is AT ALL TIMES.... - Discuss how long of a rod a toddler/kid should be using (generally the longest rod a kid should/can use is as tall as they are)... - Discuss how important it is to use a life-vest As far as "Prizes"/"Giveaway" 's are concerned... I personally wouldn't give them the more "expensive" stuff.... not unless you know their parents are into fishing as well....then it may be worth it. The kid(s) may just end up 'losing' the stuff... ya know? I would do the basic "Red/White" bobber....simple/cheaper pre-rigged (snelled) hooks.... and maybe even some sinkers (tungsten...i wouldn't give a kid lead) weights....and/or maybe a simple "essentials" equipment in a tackle box. As far as the 1hr discussion goes.... probably good to compare how much similar/dissimilar humans and fish are...ie: weather conditions...water temps....etc..... maybe even do a drawing of some kind (to keep their attention)... maybe even involve them @ the end.... test how much they've learned @ the end? (the kids will definitely want to participate, especially if a prize is involved)... You know how the fishing show by Italo Labignan has the "Fishergirl" segment? (forgot the name of his show....Canadian Sportfishing... That's it!) Anyway.... if you've got a PVR or an "ON DEMAND" type cable... record some of his shows....(and depending on when this seminar is)... you can build up a pretty hefty arsenal of "what to say to the kids" before the seminar. my 2 peso's....
