  1. I care, and it's not just about buying Canadian, it's as much about not buying from countries which should not be supported. The main offender is China which has a human rights record that is frightening. Minor non-violent crimes like business fraud can get you a death sentence, it has even been used on people for simply belonging to organisations like Falun Gong. You could be a young mother with a family, but if your tissue matches that of a rich westerner who wants your kidney you are strapped to a bed and cut up for spare parts. Brazil is another example. Police death squads have been known to walk the streets of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo at night killing children for the 'crimes' of being homeless and orphaned. They treat them as vermin who scare away tourists. Canada is not perfect, we have our own injustices, but we are better than most countries in this world. I care.
  2. Pointing fingers at Liberal or Conservative parties is pointless, they change regularly and they can only go by what the bureaucrats tell them. The bureaucracy is the one constancy in government, they are the ones who investigate what needs to be done, and then advise on, draw up, and implement policy and law. When a new government comes in they'll usually just go along with whatever the previous one was going to do, unless it is a high-profile issue like military equipment (where we have been royally screwed over by both parties over the years). Let's get back to fighting this particular issue and leave partisan politics out of it. For the record I am very liberal socially, but that doesn't mean that I am a Liberal Party supporter politically. Just wanted to clear that up.
  3. Okay, I'll remove them until I can find out for sure. Thanks!
  4. Thought you might have got whacked by the 'here you have' virus.

  6. Come for a walk along the spit at Frenchman's Bay some morning. Absolutely disgusting. The only up-side is that I've been able to get some free tackle. There is also a resident beaver just west of Liverpool Road, and the slobs who go there in the winter steal wood from the lodge to build fires, it's so denuded that it's a wonder the poor guy survived.
  7. Probably my favourite band at the moment, and they play
  8. I've often said that if I could afford a place like that I wouldn't buy a place like that. I would get an island in Georgian Bay with a cottage, a DHC-2 Beaver on floats to get in and out of it, and few would ever see me again.
  9. When I started this I had no idea that there were so many manufacturers in Canada, and I find it gratifying. Many are small 'cottage industries', but that's fine, I would rather see my money go directly to a small business than some international conglomerate. Now, I realise that it isn't possible for many of these to be 100% Canadian from start to finish, but I don't have the time and resources to determine where the iron was mined and smelted into steel, and where that steel was turned into a hook or a sheet from which a spoon pattern was cut. As long as the end product was basically manufactured here that's okay with me. Some, like Legend boats, I have left off because I am led to understand that it is only the assembly that is done here - that might be acceptable for a small garage operation but a major manufacturer has to do better than that for inclusion on my list. In the end it will often be a judgment call, and I am open to discussion. Thanks to all who have contributed so far, and keep supporting Canada!
  10. A goldfish is just a carp with bling.
  11. Inclusion doesn't imply endorsement of anyone or anything, just that they're Canadian. That company is already on the list but I'm not personally familiar with them. Is there some sort of problem with them that I should know about?
  12. Wow, this list is getting veeeery long, I might have to hire a secretary.
  13. Okay, I'll change that to a link for Williams, Brecks handles them, and remove Princecraft. Canoes I was going to look into later, but thanks for the suggestions.
  14. Well, if you could hang a couple of trebles on it...
  15. Actually manufactured in Arkansas, aren't they?
  16. I'm not against hunting, but it's good to be reminded that the tables can be turned, and that we are a part of nature too.
  17. I know he's on this board, can't find a web site.
  18. Can't find the first two on-line, and the third can apparently only be contacted through boards like this one, his e-mail is private.
  19. Contacted, awaiting confirmation.
  20. Can't find a live link. Anyone know if they're still around?
  21. Both American from what I could find on the web.
  22. I intimated in another thread that I was going to post a list of all the fishing tackle manufacturers I know of that are still making their products in Canada, so here goes. Feel free to add your own, but I want 'all Canadian' only; owned, situated, and manufactured. If you know that some I've listed are not as such then let me know and I'll remove them. 23. If you want local products that perform there is one BIG name - Slammers! Lucky Strike is still all Canadian as far as I know, and some others. Heck, I think I'll start another thread to post a list.
  24. You probably made the correct decision. According to the park naturalist I spoke to about the peregrine, smallmouth bass were introduced back to the lake around '98, so '04 may not have been enough time for them to get to a position where fishing would be worthwhile. But they seem to be back with a vengeance now!
