Still tinkering, just found out that it places a converted video into its own file folder named FFOutput, which Windows obviously can't access for a search. I tried playing the first video by clicking on it, Media Player opened up but it didn't start. I'm trying a second video in case there was something wrong with the first one, but it's a loooong sloooow process, I might have to get a beer or two and settle in for a solo Free Cell tournament until it's done.

Just tried Format Factory, and as I expected it doesn't work (as I said before, nothing ever has). I went through the process of uploading a video to it, converted it, named it, then when I tried to find it on my drive it isn't anywhere to be found. I might have to get this done professionally, if it's even possible. Beginning to doubt it.

I heard that, trouble is that even though I get an error message saying that it can't work with vob files, there doesn't seem to be an extension on the file when I call it up. I tried adding one anyway but had no joy. One of those Roxio thingies dave524 suggested is looking pretty good right now, and it cuts out the VCR/DVD middle-man. The Format Factory is a possibility, but every similar free downloadable program I've tried so far has failed.

I know, it would be easier to get a newer videocam that uploads directly to a computer, but for now I'm still using my old HiBand8mm. When I record to a DVD on my VCR/DVD unit the resulting file is something called a VOB file, which will play on my computer but that's it, MovieMaker won't recognize it for editing. There are supposedly programs available on the web that will convert them to other formats, but I haven't found one yet that I can figure out (maybe I'm just stupid). But is there anything that works easily?

Another outlet is: Tightline Fisherman's Warehouse 1050 Brock Rd, Pickering, ON, L1W3X4. (905) 837-0544 -
Glad I found out before going, I'm such a snake nut that I would have fallen for that without even thinking!

Stayed there for a few days about 7 or 8 years ago, didn't do much fishing so can't help you there. But I can tell you that it's a lovely little park for paddling around, wildlife viewing, and just generally relaxing. Since you will have a park pass you will also be able to visit Killarney P.P., which is about an hour and a bit away. Sudbury isn't far, so if it's rainy and you want something to do head to Science North, a great facility. For some bear watching head out to Highway 69, go south just a couple of hundred yards if I recall, and turn right into the dump, the road to it is signed. I've heard that Lost Channel, east on road 522, has fishing and a lodge (link) with a small reptile display ('small' refers to both the reptiles and the display ), but my info might be severely outdated. The store and gas station at the junction of 69 and 522 has everything a camper needs, and fishing supplies as well. Might even have a snack bar there but don't quote me on that. Kicking myself for not remembering more.

Some Mid-Week River Bass Action
Dave Bailey replied to BillsTheBassMan's topic in General Discussion
They were attempting to escape the monster that lurks those waters, it has a particular taste for human legs. You were lucky... THIS TIME! MuuuuWHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA! -
A few years ago I was canoeing up the Humber and went up a little backwater just below Bloor Street. There was a green heron there, using a small fluffy feather to lure fish. It would drop it in the water and push it about a bit, and then pull back and patiently wait. It was so engrossed in what it was doing that I actually drifted within less than my arm's length of it. Did I have my camera with me? NO! :wallbash:

Quoted for truthiness.

Green heron, Butorides virescens.

It's beginning to look as if you should always have a lawyer as a fishing partner.

WHOA! Wait a minute... Don't the possession limits apply to each angler, not the boat? So technically a tournament with two-person teams could have a limit of 11 bass per team, right? I'm now officially more confused than ever.
-
Having trouble getting my head around that. Do you mean that if I catch six fish in one day I have to stop? To me possession means possession, if I haven't got more than six at any one time then to hell with how many I have had during the day. If that is truly what the law means then, to quote Dickens, "the law is a ass." (Oliver Twist, chapter 51, p. 489)

Possible Snakefish Caught In Fort Erie
Dave Bailey replied to Stern Rules's topic in General Discussion
Agreed. -
In my opinion we have to keep in mind that there is a difference between the letter of the law and the spirit of the law. For instance, you have a tournament in which there is a six bass limit. You have six in your live well, the smallest is a two pounder. You catch three pounder, so technically you are now in possession of seven fish, plainly illegal. But since you immediately cull the two pounder you are now back in possession of your limit. For a couple of minutes at most you were in contravention of the letter of the law, but let's face it, the law was not intended to prevent that, it is intended to prevent people from loading up a freezer and taking off with a hundred fish. The spirit of the law was not broken. In my admittedly limited experience with the legal system the spirit of the law is often what is ruled upon. I would be interested to know the opinions of the members on this subject. I run the Gals 'n' Pals tournament, and we currently allow a six-fish limit. I have been seriously thinking of dropping it to five to stay in strict compliance with the regulations, but some feedback would be nice.

Could it be some inexperienced twit confusing Picton Ontario with notorious serial killer Robert Pickton? I'll bet the subtle association just took over without conscious thought.

Woke up to see some visitors fishing from my dock!

At least they didn't have a white bucket. -
Sorry, but I've been studying that photo for a good 5 minutes and I still haven't found the fish.
-
I've always found them beautiful. Nice pics.
-
Hard to tell from that pic, it could be an immature bird of some sort. For now it's what birders call an 'LBJ' - Little Brown Job. Bob could be on the right track, a young rose-breasted grosbeak maybe.

Saturday mornings are usually fairly light. Friday nights are definitely the worst, the ministry usually schedules a crash at Highway 89 for around 4pm, which often backs things up to about Knoxville or Atlanta.

OOS bass pic, please don't flame me

I was probably lowballing myself at 170. Gotta cut out those donuts. -

Yeah, the doctor was chuckling about that, he said "You know there are people out there paying good money to have this done on purpose?" -
Votto is a great player, and he sounds like a class guy. I would love to see a Jays owner with bags of money and lots of guts try to sign a bunch of Canadian players, we should have at least one or two at all times.
