  1. MUSKY HUNTER! FT
  2. I also, have been making my own Fluorocarbon leaders. I use 60LB(BPS) for all fish unless I am in Toothy Territory, then I switch to 130LB. I store them longest to shortest on a piece of "pool noodle". Use a Galvanized roofing nail for each end, poked into the noodle. And it floats! Lew is right on the money when he says to use SPRO or at least something of comparable quality as the ends are your weakest link. I usually have a swivel on BOTH ends if throwing lures that tend to twist lines. The smaller ones, I tie & super glue the knots for my own piece of mind & it also smooths the surface around the knot so you don't pick up as many weeds etc. Have fun! FT
  3. Maybe we can train Muskies to eat CORMORANTS!!!! FT
  4. Thanks guys! THAT WAS FAST! This is EXACTLY why I love this board or should I say Community. Both good starting points. Much obliged! FT
  5. Shimano-C3-C4 or other?? My brother in law wants to try his hand at Musky fishing. I offered to let him try my different set ups but he wants to buy his own. Problem is, he only wants one set to start! He asked me what would I go for as my "ONE" combo? Not sure if he casts left or right. Any suggestions would be most appreciated! I know what I like but am reluctant to make him do what I like. Anything to stay away from? Limit is approx. $300 for both. Thanks, FT
  6. Nice one! We don't have any grass to cut yet.....but then again, we don't have any mosquitoes either!! FT
  7. I cut several of the neighbours' lawns(elderly) as well as my own. I have a Honda(17 inch cut with a "plastic" deck that weighs 50 lbs=14 years old, still like new!!) for trimming that can get VERY close to edges, so not much weedwackin'. Use a big honkin' self propelled Craftsman(very heavy) for the rest. I have been lookin all over for a replacement for the Craftsman after 6 years COSTCO has one- STAINLESS STEEL deck AND a HONDA engine for ......$299! Should last until my kids have grandchildren! The search is OVER FT
  8. Guess what? Neither one had a lure in it's mouth! I was fishin' with my kids & heard all this splashing going on, went to see what the ruckus was all about. Found these two doin' the oral thing. Pretty cool to see it firsthand. As I mentioned, I released both....after thinking about it a while, maybe I should have hooked them up for Musky bait!! Just kidding. FT
  9. Gonna try my nfirst photo post Hopefully you will see a bass that thought he could swallow a perch only slightly smaller than himself. Both fish were released and swam away!! FT
  10. Simple answer...you can never have TOO MUCH! If I have excess tackle I go thru it and make up a complete tackle kit and find a youngster who does not yet have the fishing bug and start them off on the right track. It sure keeps them off the streets & out of the back of the police cruisers. Although the parents sometimes complain about things like worms in their pockets & wet boots etc. It is still worthwhile....and VERY rewarding. FT
  11. If your Powerpro starts to lose its colour, just use whatever magic marker you want to colour it up for a while! I use old Powerpro for tying my bucktails! Amazingly strong! FT
  12. Lew, you probably already know this but I will say it anyway, just in case(may help a rookie!). Make sure you tell them you want BOAT bearings. Regular trailer bearings have a single edge seal-BOAT bearings should have 3 or more sealing edges to keep water OUT. A buddy of mine found out this one the HARD WAY!! He was in the middle of Nowhere(Postal code was EIEIO!) her is a neat board for lots of "trailer" questions. http://forums.iboats.com/bbBoard.cgi?a=viewforum;fid=22 FT
  13. Nelly, THANKS!! I have looked at the first site but the second is kinda cool. Never thought of marking spots on satellite shot. I'm gonna remember that one! I usually just scan my maps & then mark them up both on/off the water. FT
  14. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, for all the info. Every little bit helps. Anyone else?? FT
  15. Finally found a cottage. This one is on Kasshabog Lake(Kawarthas). Anyone fished it? I don't want your "secret spots", I will find those myself, as that is the best part of the challenge. Just curious what the structure is like? Is the water clear or tea coloured? How are the bugs( my girls wanna know)? Weed growth? I will be after Mr. Teeth(Musky) myself but the family will want some walleye/perch for dinner. Do you know of any "different" methods? I will be water testing my newest batch of lures that are on the drying rack, but I may have time to make something "different". If you don't want to post on the forum, send a PM. I will always return the favour if possible. Thanks FT
  16. I have a few 2 piece rods but much prefer the 1 piece over them. Am especially fond of St.Croix -both Premier & Avid. I broke down & bought a "Bazuka" to hold up tp 7 rods( with out reels) & have NO regrets. I put a home made "sock" on each rod & in they go...No worries after that. The Bazuka is almost crush proof & says it is AIRLINE PROOF ... whatever that means. I pack all my reels into a used camera bag I got for $2 at a yard sale(GREAT!) Don't get me wrong, 2 piece rods have their place but all being equal I will reach for my 1 piece rods 1st! I you are doing stream/river fishing 2 piece would be easier to travel with. FT
  17. Drill a few small holes in the can(I said SMALL), put lots onto head of bolt, and use either JB WELD or 5 minute epoxy. If you mixed it correctly I DARE you to get them apart after they dry the proper amount of time! FT
  18. Thank you VERY MUCH. I will certainly check out Pigeon & Sturgeon as I have never fish either. Been limiting myself to Stoney for 17 years!! Thanks also for the tips re Georgian Bay & French River but want to stay a little further south. Prefer the Kawarthas & Haliburtons-strong suggestions from the kids! FT
  19. Need some help. Trying to plan a week(AUG 11-18) with the family. Want to rent a cottage, private or a resort. Need room for 7 adults. Have own boat etc. Good Musky lake preferrably Kawarthas or Haliburtons. The women have only 2 criteria-1/ swimming 2/ nice spot to sit & read/sunbathe. Not a party bunch, 4 guys will fish & 3 women will fish a bit but hang out on the dock etc most of the time. Can anyone point me in the right direction with a name/number/site etc. Had one lined up on Kasshabog that I was very keen on but it fell through. Any help is very much appreciated. Thank you FT
  20. Perhaps it has been posted before but for those who can use it, here is a site on everything you ever wanted to know about batteries. Storage, sulfation, charging etc. http://www.uuhome.de/william.darden/carfaq.htm FT
