  1. I will second the Luremaking.com suggestion. They have some amazing hardware/blanks etc. Check out their site FT
  2. i still have one of those!!I don't dare use as I don't think you can buy the blood powder anymore. Also have a Popeil Pocket Fisherman in the bag with instructions!
  3. About 8 years ago was helping a bunch off locals on the Pickerel River(north of Parry Sound) collect spawn from Walleye in conjunction with MNR. In the net was a HUGE fish, when we finally got it out & released it, turned out to be a Sturgeon. The old boys estimated it at well over 75 lbs. Took 3 of us to wrestle it out of the net & back into the river. Man that was one big ugly fish!! FT
  4. Thanks Great advice so far. Just put in the question re: the starting battery 'cuz some chargers split the amps but others will send all or most to whichever needs it. That way if you have say a 5+5 you could in theory get 10 amps going to recharge the trolling battery +faster? Supposedly it will also prolong/condition the battery. Lots of hype & advertising out there & I would much rather rely on most peoples experience. Keep'em coming! FT
  5. I am fed up with hooking up/unhooking portable battery chargers! I currently have 1 battery for trolling motor & 1 battery to start big motor etc. Anyone have anything good/bad to say about the different brands? Is it best to get a multi battery one to also charge the starting battery or is it a waste of time/money? Any particular places best/worst location to mount? Anything to stay away from? Is the "transfer on demand" stuff all it is cracked up to be? Thanks in advance for any help, FT
  6. Thank you for the heads up! I WAS looking at that one this morning. I think I will try one of the on board chargers. Any advice on these. Looking at the BPS one that does 2 batteries but charges the one that needs it the most. FT
  7. I have caught quite a few in the past 17 years. Try along the weed edges(both sides) or any breakline where they can ambush prey. There is a large weed flat on either side as you enter from Stoney. My best 'ski came from the break at Hannah's Rock. Thougt I was snaged until all "ell broke loose! Don't give up & good luck. FT
  8. I originally did a Google search on the topic and there was very little. One author said it was because it is such a basic thing that no thinks of explaining it to us T/T novices! This is GOOD info sharing! FT
  9. Now THAT"S the kind of info I was looking for. Those are ALL great tips. THANK VERY MUCH. I think I have a better idea now. Let me tell you, that 75HP Merc on a 16 footer was pretty intimidating on the weekend. I am glad I asked! THANKS FT
  10. OK! Ok! I know I am openingmyself up for abuse BUT maybe I will be lucky & get some great tips anyway. Went out in the new rig on Sat morning. Very pleased with everything but have NO IDEA how to PROPERLY use the power tilt/trim. My other rig was strictly manual! Someone is certain to say "put a wing(Doelfin etc) on the motor but it is under warranty & we don't want any "modifications" to invalidate that warranty. Anyone have any SERIOUS tricks/tips to share. Thanks, FT
  11. 3.5 MPH....topwaters!! BIG topwaters! Start at 5 or 6 & slow down a little(gradually) until you find the "groove". It may change by the hour or by day. FT
  12. Rich, definitely try the Fluorocarbon as Lew & others suggest. Another trick I use for ALL sizes of Slu-go is to remove the rubber twistee thing from rubber core sinkers(various sizes) and slide onto the shaft of the hook. Close just enough to keep it on & it will move forward/backwards as u twitch. Give a whole new meaning to ERRATIC!! Also try the "baby slug-go's for Bass, they love 'em! Hows the little one doing? I hope your are getting enough sleep!! FT
  13. Motor is a 75HP 3 cylinder Mercury 2 stroke, carburated. Just brought it home last night & spent most of today playing "Karate Kid".....wax on , wax off!! My arms hurt!! Won't be able to get it in the water until next weekend, DARN! I wanna be retired NOW!! Thanks for all of the tips so far, I DO realy appreciate it!! FT
  14. Ok I give up . What's a fetzer valve & why would you put 220 or 230 grease in/on them?????? FT
  15. Thanks guys. That is what I will do. Leaving stabilized gas in the tank makes sense. FT
  16. On the fuel system over winter issue, I am now a little confused. Some say run out all of the fuel to stop it from gumming this up but others are saying to add stabilizer to the fuel during your last trip and leave the fuel in the system., as it keeps the seals etc. soft & supple. Anyone have the definitive answer on this one? As for the oil, I change that far more often than the Manufact. reccommendations in ALL my vehicles. CHEAP insurance. thanks FT
  17. Thanks Maureen, don't know who is MORE excited me or the kids FT
  18. Well, we pick up the NEW boat on Sat. Just thought I would pick the brains of some of you as to any tips/ideas for keeping the boat in NEW condition. Previous boat was 14 Aluminum w/25 Merc. This one is 16+, al ot wider & deeper w/75Merc. Has dual console, vinyl floor and full standup cover. Never had a "canvas" type cover. Anything I should/shouldn't do? Obviously the aluminum hull & trailer will be well waxed! Any other tips? Any tips on keeping the Merc up to snuff? Any & all suggestions will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks, FT
  19. CONGRATULATIONS to you all!!! I keep telling my 3 to hurry up & get me me Grandkids. I DO remember all the fun with little ones & I MISS IT. A buddy suggested when my kids were born, to save the Newspaper from that Special day. I did so & my kids still have the papers with all the flyers etc. Really cool. Just slide into a green garbage bag & put on a hanger in the closet for safe keeping. Now you will learn what "shift work" is all about! FT
  20. I am trying to get a hold of the dealer as I write this...busy signal!!! Will let you know as soon as I talk to him. Thanks for the great advice as well as the offer to sell the transom saver. FT
  21. WOW! this is exactly the reason I love this board. Walleyedreamer THANK YOU for that piece of advice. I was looking at that EXACT wedge. Thought it might be a simple fix.....NOT NOW! Will definitely get oneof the GOOD ones before I get the new rig. Think I will contact the dealer & ask him to install on! Thanks again!! FT
  22. Will be picking up my brand new ride in 2 weeks. Old boat never had Power tilt & trim so I travelled with a motor support that took the lower weight of the outboard and cushioned it with a small shock absorber connected to the trailer. New boat has Power Tilt & trim (75 HP). Do I need some sort of Transom Saver & if so what is everone using? Are there some better than others? Where to buy? Anything to watch out for? Any & all help MUCH appreciated FT
  23. Judging by the Licence on the side, it is from New Hampshire ? Need to be careful with U.S. boats as some states do not title boats, so would be a nightmare to get it across without proper clear title. I was looking into bringing one across & was told to be careful of this exact problem. Other than that, looks like a great boat! My call would be $16-17 K. FT
  24. I'm probably gonna get some grief for this but... I replaced my 12 inch tires with RADIALS from WALLYMART on sale. It cost me $25 each installed/balanced on my old rims! So I bought one for my spare as well. Been running them for 5 years now, rotating them 3 ways. NO PROBLEMS as of yet! My boat is a 14.5 footer with a 25 Merc. so the weight is not too much. You will need to do the math for your application, especially for a bigger outfit. They sure do smooth out the bumps & tow nice!! Ft
  25. Costco has the MASTER LOCK 3 piece combo with a plastic case for $50.... cheap insurance that it will still be there when you get set to go. FT
