Maybe for you. I have been fishing slop with frogs for some time and I will tell you truthfully that I only hookup with about 20% of blowups with my spro frogs. With my mann's frog I bet I am closer to 50-60%. There is that much difference. I do know how to set hook. I also use a 7' heavy or a 7' mh with at least 30 pound braid. I do the same hookset using both lures. That of course is just my opinion. I believe the quality on the spro is the best out there. My mann's baits have split and cracked rendering them less boyant than before but my spros are all still is great shape. They also have the best skirts.

Don't chince out. Buy that Cardinal 502 reel on sale this week and get that little fenwick on sale as well (or get a ligthning rod). Under $100 and that is a solid setup for years.

I have a buddy who actually runs around with his rod in hand and fishes at the same time. He only does this when fishing is slow. He actually got caught once with his waders around his ankles sitting against a tree. Unknowingly to him two anglers approached from behind and asked him how the fishing was going. Knowing he could not hide what he was doing he simply replied "pretty slow". Yep, that actually happened. Notawasaga river circa 1989. oh yeah, Welcome Pete1986

The hooks look to be good quality. Like I said, if it catches fish it is worth it.

That, my friend is a sweet evening of fishing!! Congrats on the ski. Wow, nice looking fish.

I like best 3 fish in inches. Got to find some pike.

Well, I have fished Simcoe for many years and yes, wind can be a problem BUT, If we fish K bay there is no real issue. If the wind is N, NW, W, S, SE, or SW there is no issue. Kbay only gets rough if it is an East wind which is the least common wind. If the wind is N, you fish the north shore and it will be calm. If there is a S wind you fish the South shore, you get the idea. Kbay is full of perch, rock bass, there are some places that hold smallies and there are pike, lakers and whitefish.

Rule #6 is good because if people don't have boats and we use planer boards to troll we can get more people to fish out of one boat. I can troll 4 people at once. I was thingking of trolling because I don't think the reels will cast very well at all. I also want to see someone catch a salmon/trout on the gear. I see the riggers/boards as more of a tool, like a boat.

but are they full cork?

looks pretty good. EVen if it isn't legit I think it might be worth $11 if it catches a few good fish. I have 6 lucky craft lures and have managed to catch 2 perch with them so far in 2 years. And I do still try them qutie regularly.

Maybe TJ or Spiel can stick this one instead of the other. ****I looked at the forecast for Aug. 1. It looks really nice. What sdo you guys think of that? There are a bunch of you from the south and southwest who expressed interest. I was wondering if it would be better to have several same day tournamments. One in the Niagara/Hamilton area, one in Toronto or Kawarthas and one in Barrie. If you can't make it to any of those you can just fish and post your pics and results with $ama stuff. Chime in and let me know at which location you would paticipate******* OK, this idea has a bit more interest than I first anticipated. I would love to have a on day g2g with the OFC members somewhere not too far from Toronto. I am not sure who is actually on board with this. I would say run the g2g out of Innisfil or Barrie or Oro but again I don't know who has boats, how far you can go etc. If you don't come to the g2g you can still participate at different locations throughout Ontario. Here are some of the rules I have come up with so far. 1. There is a $10 limit (actually $11.30 with tax) on your complete fishing package. 2. All items, including line, terminal tackle, rods and reels and lures must be bought from Dollarama or another dollar store (for those without Dollaramas nearby) 3. You may not use any other items from your tackle box that are not from dollarama - no scents - no live bait - no swivels/leaders (unless you bought them at dollarama) 4. You may use food items as lures as long as they were bought at dollarama. 5. If you already have dollarama lures, they count toward your $10 worth of lures. 6. The use of downriggers and planer boards IS ALLOWED 7. All fish caught should have a picture taken with lure in mouth(if possible) and rod and reel in hand. Pic beside measuring tape would also be recommended There are probably lots of other rules that I should mention but I need help. The reel is a pretty crappy right hand retrieve only spinning reel. It already has line (just not too much). The rod is a telescopic 6' I believe. There is also a bamboo rod that comes with line and a hook and small split shot and a float (all for $1). After you purchase the $4 rod and reel that leaves you with $6 for lures. There are cranks, poppers, jerkbaits, spinners, spoons, jigs, hooks leaders and much more. Let me know who could make a g2g around barrie on a Sat and which Sat would be best. Who is in?

The rods are telescopic and green in colour. THey are $2

I find that Spro's frog have a bit stiffer body. I get more blowups on the spro but way fewer hooksets. I have a couple of Mann's frogs that have much softer bodies. I find the fish bite down easier on them and the hook set is easier. Alternately you can try a texas rigged senko on top over the pads the same way you fish the frog. I have better hook sets with those.

I bougth two lures today as well but they are WAY BETTER than yours. I am writing up some rules and regs and I will post them here in my first post when I get them done. If you have any changes you would like seen the rules let me know. I will have them a little later today. I have to go play with my kids.

Jigging lakers and my 1st attempt at a Musky

Great multi species report. Simon, you catch nice fish indeed but you need to sort out that camera!!!! I keep seeing these sweet deals on cameras all over the place and I try to think to myself, Who do I know that needs a camera? Oh yeah, SIMON DOES. lol -
There are 4 dollaramas in Barrie. I know that 2 of the stores have the cane poles. One store has a rod reel combo for $2 and the other has a telescopic rod for $2 and reels for $1.25 I think. I think I am going to get the telespcopic rod. It looks the strongest. Not that it matters, I think the reel will be the week link. Apart from the wire bail I didn`t anything but plastic on it.

They do sell leaders there as well but not the ones SNAG has on his spinners. I will be looking very close at the pics as well. **No catching fish with your normal rod and reel and then putting the dollarama rig in the pic. This has to be legit and honest.

Ok, so here is the deal. I would love to have a tourney on Simcoe out of boats but it is probably not going to work. I was thinking this. We start a dollarama thread and we all take one day (or a couple of hours in a day, I don`t want to ruin your whole day) and we fish anywhere we want with our dollarama rigs. When we catch a fish on our dollarama gear (IT MUST BE ALL DOLLARAMA INCLUDING ROD REEL LINE SINKERS HOOKS LURES ETC) we post pics. Rod and reel in hand and bait in mouth if possible. No live bait. Just dollarama stuff. If we don`t have a dollarama thread we can just post reports with dollarama in the title. I am buying my rod and reel tomorrow (be careful some already look broken in the packages LOL) Looks like snag has already got a leg up on the competition. I remember last year a bunch of blue fox and YUM stuff was on sale at dollarama. They have a 15 piece jig set there as well as some nice hardbaits, lol. I will buy some hooks and weights and drop shot for some trophy Simcoe smallies. If we really want to do this right we should spend an extra $10 and go to goodwill at the same time and get some sweet swag to accompany our sweet fishing tackle.

I am seriously thinking of having a dollarama derby. The night before we go to Dollarama and can only spend $10 (including rod and reel). You can't use anything but dollarama stuff and we have a fishing tourney. There is a good assortment of spinners, spoons, cranks, and poppers to choose from. No live bait allowed but you can use the food from the food section. Rod and reel is $2 and that leaves $8 for lures. Should be funny. I will let you know if we get this off the ground. I wonder how long the reel will last? Maybe 2 fish.

I use both. I have better success with the 3" but they are both good.

I was about to guess raspberry salmon but I guess it was its close relative the cherry salmon. Damn. I was close though

drop shot. I do not go through the sucker hole as I find you lose too many too quickly. I actually thread it on the hook like you would a worm. I used them today in the rain and went 4 for 8.

that is good sized. I say give it a rip. I like that one. Reminds me of a Suick Musky lure. nice big Jerk bait. That sir, is a nice 8" woody you got there.
