  1. Hey guys and Joey. Thanks for all the positive comments. Also thanks to those who did not comment and question my integrety as a person who made a promise to stop something and didn't follow through. I must admit that it bothers me a bit too (hence the big justification statement at the start of my thread) but I think I am at a place now to where I was in August last year. I had a pretty sweet moustache in November but didn't get to show it off because I didn't go chase any bronzebacks in the fall. I do however have some nice pics. lol
  2. That seems like a possibility. Thanks
  3. I have been fishing smallies and perch in Simcoe for about 25 years now. I have noticed one thing in the past 2 years. Their diet seems to have switched from crayfish to other. By other I mean bogies, perch and shiners. In the past when I have opened up the stomachs of perch and smbs caught in rocky areas, their contents were almost 100% crayfish. WHen a smallie would regurgitate a meal, it was always crafish. Now, I have bass puking up gobies, and perch have small minnows or fish in them and very rarely crayfish. I also feel that I do not see crayfish in my fishing areas nearly as frequently as before. What is the deal? Are gobies affect the crayfish reproduction? Is it something we should be worried about? Just as a sidenote, There were far fewer smallies around the rocks then there have been in the past. Maybe I am just imagining things but I know these areas pretty well and this is my opinion.
  4. Well I haven't been fishing since august last year and I know I gave it up for 4 years but I realized that fishing is actually part of who I am and not just something I do. I have been fishing since I was 4 years old and was fishing long before my wife came along and before I had a family of my own. Having spent 10 months away from fishing I realized a few things. First of all fishing wasn't really the root of my anger. I just get angry too easy. I am currently working on bettering that and have been doing very well for about 3 months now. Also, over the past few months, I have really made a considerable effort to absolutely put my family and wife first no matter what. My wife realized this and told me I should go fishing this weekend. She even got me a BPS gift card for father's day. Ok, enough of my life and the boring stuff. Long story short, I gor out this weekend both days. Saturday on Simcoe and Sunday on L. Muskoka. I might fish a few more times this year but it is really going to take a back seat for some time. Reports will be fairly limited so I hope you enjoy this one. By the way my thumb is pretty raw which means it was a good couple of days. Saturday's weather was perfect and we started fishing at 5:30 am. Our mini tourney consisted of 4 people in 2 boats, therefore we were in teams of 2. The goal was to catch as many species of fish and to catch the biggest of each species. We also put in some $ for biggest fish. In the end, my team absolutely crushed the other team by catching 7 different species. The other team caught 5 species and of the 7 species, my team caught the heaviest of 6 out of the 7 species. We crushed the other team. Our 7 species were LMB, SMB, Pike, Lake trout, Perch, sunfish, and rock bass (one of the smallies puked up a fully intact goby but we stated before the tourney that gobies did not count). Nothing really huge but a couple nice smallies at 3.5 pounds each, and a couple of decent eating pike, and a nice eating sized laker ( she was a stocked fish). So for the 100 or so fish that we caught, we kept 2 pike, 1 lake trout and 10 decent perch. Great day on the lake and I took my buddy out who is a real new fisherman. He caught his PB Pike, Lake trout, and SMB. Nice 3 new PBs in one day. He was stoked. Here are a few pics of Saturday. a couple of nice smallies Caught lots of Largies but most were cookie cutter 1 pounders. Weird. My buddy with his biggest smallie ever. My friend with another big smallie Pike for dinner. Lake trout for dinner too On Sunday we started a bit later and decided to hit up L. Muskoka. Rain, rain and more rain. Freakin weather forecast said 1-3 mm in the aft. What?? 1-3 mm every minute for the whole day, that would have been a more accurate forecast. ANyway, we still had fun and we managed a couple very nice bass. One largie just a hair under 5 pounds, another largie at 4 pounds and some nice smallies with the biggest weighing in at a respectable 3.2 pounds. The bass in Muskoka were very acrobatic today and we lost as many as we caught. They were really hot for topwater today in the rain. Very ineresting. Here are a few pics of some hawgs. My buddy with a very nice Largie Nice smallie in the rain Good Largmouth.
  5. Batchewana is in the Robinson-Huron Treaty area. Now I wonder how the great lakes fit into the equation. I saw on the map the treaty area but the great lakes are not included. His treaty area borders the whole norther part of Huron. Seeing as Georgian Bay is part of Lake Huron, I wonder if he can claim aboriginal fishing rights there. Maybe I shouldn't even care because he already has a license. Anyway, I found this interesting. Not sure about the outcome as I am sure it was probably argued in court. http://fishingboard.thunderbayfishing.com/index.php?showtopic=20
  6. Well, it is opening weekend and I have been an awesome husband and dad for the past few months and my wife bought me a $50 BPS gift card for father's day. All things point to maybe. We'll see. I haven't fished since august last year and everything is cool. I do pass 2 lakes everyday on my way to work and haven't stopped in yet. I did take my middle and youngest daughter out for a troll the other day and they caught 5 perch between them and I didn't put a line in the water. As to the original question, I am going to look at his treaty area. I beleive Batchawana First Nations is his reserve.
  7. He has his license anyway, I was just wondering the legalities. How big are these "traditional or treaty areas"? I wonder how far his spans. I will have to ask him.
  8. I was wondering a couple of things with regards to my buddy who is native. Let's say he was fishing with me in my boat. a) Would he need a fishing license? (I think not) What would his catch limits be? (same as my sport license because he is fishing with me???) c) Would he be allowed to fish with 2 rods? (or does he have to adhere to my rules because he is with me?) If anyone knows please chime in.
  9. That is a very interesting hypothesis. I have recently read an article that suggests fish eyes out of water work much like our eyes do underwater. Everything is very blurry.
  10. What a great multi-species adventure. Both parts. I almost moved to the Soo about 16 years ago. Love the fishing there.
  11. Hey Jacques I have not been on here much but I recognized the man in the pic but not the name. What happened to Leechman? By the way, I still have "little woodie". Would you like me to send him back to you?
  12. Looks nice. Looks familiar but I may be wrong. If it is the same creek I am thinking (I used to fish it more as a kid), there are decent browns but man are they skiddish (sp?). You have got make 0 noise and cast from a distance.
  13. Those are 3 nice rides!! Gold Member.
  14. I have owned a few Jeeps with the same 4.0 . Engine is bulletproof but transfer case tends to be average. TJs are fun. Go for it if you have always wanted one. By the way, the 4 liter is an inline 6, not a V6
  15. Hey Canadian tire is selling a Shakespeare 55lb transom mount trolling motor. It will be on sale for $209 dollars next week. It includes a battery extender and and tilt telescopic handle (not sure if it is telescopic. Anyway, I know Pure Fishing owns Shakespeare but who actually makes these motors? Does anyone have one? Performance? Please chime in if you know anything about them. Thanks
  16. Thanks Bill. I stil have my boat too, it is just a wakeboard/tubing/cruising boat with a fishing platform, bow mount trolling motor and livewell. For the time being.
  17. You guys are always so generous. I remember being a bit of a noob on OFC and getting the invite. One day guys. PS. Joey you need to talk to my wife and tell her to tell me to go fishing. lol
  18. Hey Rob I used this guy named Paul for Presto Appliance Repair twice. Once on a dishwasher and once on washing machine. He was very good. About a year after fixing the aged washing machine we had another problem with it (a different problem than the first) and we called him again. He came out and told me he could fix it but it was not worth it and that I could get a new machine for just a bit more than it would cost to fisx it. He didn't even charge me for the callout. He was from Innisfil 705 436-6590
  19. LOl. I know the kid. Taller enthusiastic kid. I like him. That is not who I was talking about though. I met with a guy from Maurice (sp?) tackle and they stock Canadian tire and he asked me about what they should bring in specifically for Barrie and Midland. We had a good chat and I did my best to get slammers and swammers in there for Mark too. Hey Bill. Did you like my new ride. I blacked it all out, black rims, tint, no chrome anywhere on grill or emblems. Then I spent 5 hours a couple saturdays ago lowering it. Also Bill. Did I see you jogging yesterday? I am running a marathon in May but these damn injuries are holding me back. Injury recovery time when you are over 40 is twice as long as wehn you are 20!!!
  20. Sorry Brian. I don't get on here as much anymore. My bad. Maybe someone else missed your post too and then they will be really happy to see this one. LOL. Hope you are well Brian. I often drive by your place and it seems that nice red truck of yours never moves.
  21. Very Nice! Now all you need to do is get a wife, have 3 kids and then quit fishing. Wait! Don't do that.
  22. THe Barrie stores are really changing their fishing depts. Big musky section with lots of lures. There are about 40 display rod handles awaiting reels. Rods: Shiano crucial and compres Quantum smoke rods and a bunch of others including abu veritas. Interesting for sure. I guess that guy I met with a while ago was telling the truth.
  23. Congrats Rob. I too stopped after 2 children. My kids are now 10, 9, and 5. Hmmm. THe irony is that I actually teach sex ed at school which of course includes contraception. lol!
  24. One more question. Do you have to be trolling to use a second rod or can you, let's say, cast for bass with more than one rod?
  25. cool, good to know. thanks. Looks pretty slick!
