  1. Tapping is not the way to do it and results in what you are experiencing. Teflon may help you but other than that I would not take it to a marine shop, I would take it to a place that works on dirt bikes and motorcycles because they likely have more experience doing the helicoil.
  2. I use the wooden handle Rapala Fish N' Filet 4" and 6" Also have a longer Normark soft handle 9" a little stiffer. I don't need fancy filet knives because I can make up lost meat by catching bigger fish.
  3. OK. I have small, black zip ties and will try them. Took maybe 20. Power Pro could be a second choice because I think it may cut through the fragile netting on this one. Zipties are wide. Thanks all!
  4. I think mice chewed 8 holes about an inch in size in my net and I would like to repair it. It is an anti hook, pro fish netting. It is a few years old but it is a Frabill and it's dimensions do fit this one: https://frabill.com/products/floating-wade-net-frbnt3674?variant=40020484161745 is there some sort of tape to use for this or am I looking at some rope to seal these up? thanks.
  5. I am missing something. Did the dealers volunteer this information or was it a reply to a question asked. Ever think think the question was unintentionally loaded so that they would give the safest answer? Maybe they were loading up to sell insurance on the motor.
  6. Soft rubber and plastic definitely have advantages but I am trying to avoid buying something easily damaged. I don't want to hurt my wallet so much either and I am guessing I don't need to change up lures so much to hit on the right one for the day but I could be wrong. I have a few musky lures orange big jake, a couple of suick styled ones. Large 4" + buck tail length spinners. Any lure suggestions for slow 8"+ baits?
  7. Use bearing swivel. Use a few foot of mono lead from the swivel to the lure. This setup also allows for spoons and spinners. Use a loop knot like the instructions that came with the lure said to do. If you must use a swivel....I would go for something that ends in a smooth loop. If you are super organized and have lots of time you can add mono leads to all your lures and snap them on. You may be envied.
  8. The prop shop is good because the lakes allow them to gain a lot of experience. Welcome to the club. At least you don't have to worry about having a perfect skeg and prop anymore.
  9. Don't be alarmed. Did you do a close up hull inspection? How does the boat do unloaded?
  10. Not enough information to give an opinion and really what do you care about what others think. Go with what you like. Missing info: 1. Do you want a 12footer to throw in a truck? Do you have a truck?" 2. Do you want a 14 footer with a fixed gas motor? 3. What\where are you fishing? 4. What is wrong with you kayak? Do you have to trailer it or do you have a ton of convenience. Kayaks can be rigged to the hilt. Down riggers, 6 rods trolling, fish finders, nets, cooler, motor and can still be stood up in. Never seen a foot controlled trolling motor on one though. It is insane how much stuff and what can be hauled up on in a kayak. No limits, even a basic kayak can have most everything you would want. Aluminum you don't have to physically exert yourself to fish, can be bashed about, can be more stable, you can bring a friend in the boat, you can stretch your legs, take a kid. Grass is always greener on the other side but I bet when you get there you will miss not having the smell of gas, exercise and being close to the water. The fishfinder can setup will probably be better and the trolling motor will allow more finesse. both, yep, have both.
  11. I was going to cry FUD! but that was before looking at the mfg page and reading the manual. Not a mention of Canada approval anywhere! After some further digging this isn't the first year Costco has sold these. Last year they cleared them out for $50. This site here appears to be a Costco return clearance center: https://www.rjpwholesale.com/products/havasu-24-gm-automaticmanual-inflatable-pfd They list it as Transport Canada approved. I guess someone has to go an check the product or ask Costco and check for the stamp before buying.
  12. This is why we can't have nice things. Easy enough to try out in the store. Working against my own interests: The Costco sign says "automatic or manual" also the model number in the picture looks like that one is an automatic model. Costco also sells 2 recharge canisters for $54.
  13. Shhhhh keep it down! They came in late in the season and I am waiting for them to go on clearance. That can't happen if people buy them!
  14. Oh, yes. Simcoe must have a lot of SUPs. Thanks
  15. So I did have the URL right: yakfisher.net that was was a great forum. Now it is run by some nameless face running BOQ charters on a 25ftx10ft kayak with 200HP on the back. Weird. Maybe one day I will find out what happened in 2019. So that is it for local yak and SUP forums?
  16. Revived thread so...... That news release is not a deterrent. Here is one that would be. Fishman fined $4000 and suspended from fishing for 2 years. The fine was that high due to it being a repeat offence. This year Conservation Officers in the region have handed out and collected on 200 fines of $200 each and suspended 100 licenses for a full year to first time offenders. An additional 3 people had their licenses suspended and received heftier fines as they were repeat offenders. The Ministry of Natural Resources ask people to be aware of the fishing regulations as fines are mandated when offences are discovered"
  17. There are rarely any completely oblivious or completely perfectly aware people. Same goes for considerate people. Being a bit selfish sometimes is how we end up not being run over by everyone else. I don't matter but given you got a bit of a rough ride it shows good character you took it will and figured it out. Always learning till we die.
  18. Vacate the dock when before leaving the canoe unattended otherwise you are one those type that are oblivious to those around them. Hopefully, the op had the sense to apologize profusely, they had enough sense to think "maybe i was wring on this". Mistakes happen.
  19. Middlemen keep prices up. Rates are not hitting 10%, so much creation of fear. There are fair deals, one just has to be patient and recognize them.
  20. I wouldnt invest too much in it as you will find that you will be blowing around the lake. There is a reason people are out on the lake with kayaks and 12 foot tin. If you must then try to figure out how to mount rod holders and find a good anchor rig up. A portable fishfinder will serve you well, if it can be mounted
  21. Had a large electric start motor that had a manual back up. There was no way i would ever be capable to pull start it if the electric start failed. 100% you made the right decision.
  22. Hi, I may just be passing through. There was a site local to southern ontario for kayak fishing a few years ago i thought it was yakfisher.net but that is down. Did that forum go bye bye? Looking for that and southern ontario sup forums. Also looking for a suitable and secure 17" wide cooler for a yak that wont have the wife grill me over what it costs. Thank you!
