  1. i just sent away for mine. hopefully it doesnt take too long. i got to test out my flasher sunday and monday. what an awesome unit!!! the 45 was so easy to use. i fished a local pond that ive been fishing for years. i easily caught way more fish than i ever have before on that pond. i dont know how i ever fished without one.
  2. i often find them right in tight to structure. fallen trees are good spots. if ice fishing and I see some branches exposed above the ice, I will often drill holes right in the thick of it. ive been lucky a few times and pulled lots of fish from a single fallen tree, and then when it slows down i will look for another tree.
  3. i personally would pick shimano over quantum any day of the week. i own mostly shimano reels so i may be a little biased but in my opinion shimano is top of the line. i love my curado's.
  4. check out www.noto.net (Northern Ontario Tourist Outfitters) there is a bulletin board on that site and there are always postings from lodges all over ontario for guiding postions.
  5. thanks for the info. sounds like floyd hales has a pretty good reputation. it seems to me that bungalows are way more plentiful on nippissing than they are on simcoe.
  6. hi, im looking for a little input on renting an ice bungalow on simcoe this year. i havent found too many of them through google. i did see that floyd hales has the sleeper huts and they seem reasonably priced. does anyone have any experience with floyd hales huts or could reccommend a good outfitter on simcoe that has bungalows. im hoping to book one soon. thanks.
  7. WOW!!!! that is a pig!!!!!!
  8. right on!! i'll definitely have to give it a try this winter. hooking into a grand river cat would be a helluva fight through the ice.
  9. what do you catch there through the ice??? ive only ever fished for catfish there. im guessing the cats are gone this time of year.
  10. ive always thought that ling, burbot, eelpout are all the same fish. the ling in the ocean (ling cod) are obviously different but what is the difference between a ling and burbot???? very nice ling/burbot by the way!! should make a nice mount. one of my guests from minnesota had a 37 incher mounted.
  11. i like to use microtubes tipped with a little piece of worm. i had a lot of success with it for crappies last ice season.
  12. walleye fishing doesnt get much better than that!!! congrats!!!!
  13. thanks for your input everyone. fishnwire, i looked up the aquaview. it looks like a pretty cool unit, however some of the reviews i read were not so great. apparently it tips over very easily if its not on a perfectly even surface, and there were a few other common complaints.. from what ive read here and elsewhere, i think im going with the hummingbird. thanks for your help guys.
  14. hey everyone! im looking for new toy for the upcoming ice season and am looking for a little input. im basically sold on the humminbird. ive heard good things about them, but im also curious about the lowrance unit. has anyone here used the lowrance?? from what i hear, they can be a little tough to read on a sunny day, although that could be solved by simply moving the unit. also ive heard that they dont hold up all that well in really cold temps. the unit is called the ice machine, so i dont think temps would be a huge problem. anyway, just looking for some info from anyone who owns or has used the lowrance. thanks.
  15. the only other place in or around london is archies. im pretty sure its called archies anyway, it around hamilton rd and adelaide. however, the place is extremely unreliable. the guy opens and closes at completely random times. i stopped going there years ago, but last time i was there he did sell minnows. definitely call ahead.
  16. yep! he's still open and almost always has minnows. they are pretty pricey!!
  17. hey everyone!! just curious if anyone here has fished the reservoir in parkhill. im thinking of trying it out tommorrow and was hoping to get some info. as far as i know there are some nice crappie in there apparently, and im guessing pike and perch too but im not too sure. any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks
  18. ive seen this one before. if you look really closely you will see that its actually a bigger pike that came and grabbed the small one being released. pretty crazy.
  19. i have both a legend elite spinning rod and a legend elite baitcasting rod and have nothing bad to say about them. the baitcast rod is a st. croix legend elite 7 foot, med-heavy, fast action. not sure how the shimano compares in price. im guessing it is a little cheaper, however if you can afford it i would say go with the st. croix. you wont be disappointed. that being said, im sure the shimano is a great rod too, so either way you will have a pretty nice baitcast setup.
  20. saw one a long long time ago on a class trip to camp celtic on the bruce peninsula. one of the events at the camp is a "rattlesnake hunt". before we left on the hunt our councillor warned us not to get our hopes up as they hadnt seen one in quite some time. sure enough we walked out the door and there was a snake right there. what was supposed to be a 2 hour snake hunt only took about 30 seconds.
  21. congrats buddy!! you will love it. guiding is the best job ive ever had and ive had lots. enjoy the season.
