ok,, so I LOVE staying out on the river AAALLLLL day( and my wife is ok with it too) and I want to eat some FRESH fish right out of the river.. I carry a small napsack with me with water and usually a sandwich and some fruit. What ways can I cook some fresh trout or crappies on the shore over an open fire. I really DON'T want to lug a cast iron pan around with some cooking oil either. Any suggestions? Thanks splashopper

ok.. so with the help from a few guys here... I caught 2 bows on Friday night.. put em in the fridge. then caught another one Saturday afternoon... fried em up with a nice cajun rub about 30 minutes later right there at the hole. ( some young guys had camped in the woods there overnight and had a cast iron pan and oil! Thought ok, that solves THAT little dilemna. Just be done in by a dang nail in my tire when icame out of the hole at 9PM Saturday night! Lucky for me one of the guys i was with had a portable tire inflator in his trunk . Oh well, Long weekend next weekend, so... gonna fish for crappies and drop backs... -

one of my fishing buddies has german shepherd that he brings with us on the Maitland river. A few advantages for us when he brings Rex. 1: The dog goes in to the water and retrieves the fish better than I do at the shore. 2: Keeps other fishermen away from crowding us on our favourite spots. 3: Keeps the boredom at bay when the bite is off. 4: Scouts the deer out of the bush ahead of us on our walk in so i don;'t get the CRAP scared outa me in the dark.

night time fishing gear and technique? I have only night fished from my "honey hole"( no waders needed) so far, but think i want to try a couple of spots on the Maitland river that I am pretty familiar with(in the daytime). I will be fishing with a friend as well for safety sake too. i have two hat lights and am thinking about getting one of those collapsable walking sticks for the river. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanx again

my wife's friends(Filipino's) love the fresh fish and i love them cooking em too! -
I fish the Lake Huron area and we have a 2 fish (rainbow) in posession per day limit there.. My question is this: If i head up to the lake on a Friday for the weekend and catch two bows that same day.. is my fishing over already? ie: travelling home with the fish in my posession? Or is there some obscure regulation somewhere that covers this dilemna? i do have a fridge/freezer at the lake so could I keep them there and then travel back to London on Sunday with the freshest ones over the weekend?

i was drifting with BIG fat worms on 8lb main line and 4lb leader.. i also wrapped a bright "glow type" piece of orange yarn o nthe head of the #8 hook. Only snagged up once and was glad i had the leader on as i thought i had more night lites than i actually did..... duhhhh! lol I could get a pic of the one i kept... but it might look a "little stiff" coming out of the freezer. ..............................................................................................................................................................

nobody there at my new honey hole... just me and the rain and then the moon and then the rain... got the bows in the rain,... but none in the moonlight? go figure... and unfortunately, i left my camera back at my trailer charging the batteries! had 7 bows on,, landed four,,, kept one. Questions for the night time fishers here: Do u use glow in the dark lures / baits? How about using or not using a leader at night time? thanx

on the MAIN line and use the smallest ones u can... a few extra small ones spread evenly down the main line works the best for me.

Hi ron... I know this disease from a very close person in my life as well.. It was my late motherinlaw. (Lola) Lola and Lolo lived with my wife and ou children until her last 11 days. She then went in to palliative care after her esophogus had collapsed. Lola only last 17 months from the time of diagnosis to the morning she died, good Friday 7 years ago. One of the greatest lesson i ever learned in my life came from helping her make amends( to set things right) to those she wished she could have treated differently in her life. I am truly blessed to have had a small part in this part of her life. Lola was a very traditional Filipina and was the life of the house and of her community. She was involved in a Clinical study with Dr.Strong's team at the University of Western Ontario. We lived the last year of her life with a "do not recessitate" notice on the inside of both doors of our home. This really put things in perspective of the finallity of her condition. Her last 3 months were not pleasant to say the least, but Lola never complained. She just wanted to have her granddaughter( my youngest) with her at all times. My daughter was a real trooper for a 3 year old. As I write this to you Ron, please know that YOU ARE NOT ALONE in feeling the powerlessness to help a friend to overcome this disease. Also know that taking care of the "caregivers" was one of the FIRST things we were told to do by Dr Strong and his team. So, if i can make a suggestion.... KEEP ON FISHING .... brings your loved ones with ALS with you to a dock and just put the pole in their lap... We used to bring Lola out to the gardens she helped form for all the seasons changes and just sat with her there. No words were needed... she let us know with her smiles and nods that she was happy and glad that we were with her right then and right there. So, if you can,, take them fishing and and watch their eyes..And KNOW that in the grand scheme of things.. you are makin ga HUGE difference in their lives, Just for Today. God Bless Splashhopper
