  1. Good to know I kinda know what im talking about.. lol Double soaked and double smoked!! LOL
  2. Sorta ice fishing related...
  3. There are a few lakes to the west and northwest of temagami, where the lakers dont get very big. The flesh has a very pink hue.. As a matter of fact if i recall correctly we used to catch the odd one on the north end of temagami as well. Ive eaten pickeral all my life and i will tell you those small pink lakers beat any pickeral hands down for eating, much meatier and no "trouty" taste. I was told once that the pink meat was due to the fact that in tose smaler lakes they feed primarily on crayfish. Dunno if it true but its possible. Just dont "aggressively cook"them.
  4. Anything that makes it through all that boiling.. lol.. I dont think it can hurt ya...
  5. Thanks guys... we don't filter.. we pour off in 5 gallon batches an have a 1/2 stainless steel drum... Poured in at boiliog it takes a while to cool and we just let it settle and siphon off the top.. Does a great job and no messing around with filtering.. we do our very best to prefilter everything through cloth and then through 6" milk filters before it goes into the vats. Spent my evening cleaning out the boilers, got some repairs to do before we can start.
  6. Ahhh family... lol...
  7. LOL>. When they are that big I smoke them.... but small lakers up north... better than walleye as far as im concerned.
  8. Yup... its nice and slow up here... lol.. there's a reason i moved back.... Nice fish... he bought the licence he can keep it!! Im pretty sure that hauling anything up from that depth would be the end of it no matter what... Hes best off to keep it rather than risk wasting it in my opinion!
  9. I'm getting the sugar shack cleaned up and ready to go.. W'ere gearing up for our season which usually starts mid march. after my Dad's mishap last year we missed a year. I did this video with my Dad a few years back. Were gonna have to start the season with skidoo's instead of the tractor though there's gotta be 3-4 feet of snow in the bush. Lots of work to get ready to go... we have 300 trees we can do, I think I'm gonna stick to around 125 around the shack for my first go at this alone. Except for last year, weve been in "production" for 30 odd years. Our best year was 65 gallons. We've always done everything old school... and its gonna stay that way. Syrup is done (for commercial purposes) when its boiling temperature is 7 degrees above 212 (219) we always boil to 219.5-220, for a little thicker, sweeter syrup.
  10. It was a blast.. They spent the night on the ice... lol Im really happy for them, hes a great guy.
  11. A big congrats to my niece Sarah and my new Nephew-in-Law Erik. They tied the veritable fishing knot out at a friends ice hut near Sudbury today, what a great ceremony and wonderful afternoon. 15. LOL... Out my window this morning...
  16. If my wife and/or kids, got into an accident in the winter and I didnt have snow tires on the car, i dont think i could forgive myself. Not much money for a bit more peace of mind.. and actually if your swapping them out with summer tires... everything should last as long as ... well two sets of tires... so other than paying abit to have them put on and taken off... its really not much more outta pocket as far as im concerned.
  17. All seasons on the Pilot... but definitely winter tires on my smaller civic!! Makes a world of difference.
  18. FREAKY SWEET POST!!
  19. So.. for me and Monique.. do you think the smaller model will be fine?? Oh ya... where did ya buy it??

  21. Yup Cant wait.. this is the third time to Kesagami and gonna be the longest.. I'm hoping Avery enjoys his time up there, big change from Ottawa... Funny thing is hes got a couple of weeks to hang out before he leaves and all he wants to do is go to camp. lol Chris... not much a a whitie fisherman. so im not sure!
  22. Nice Report and beauty fish.. Im thinking of you and hope the treatments go as well as they can!
  23. Gonna be a good one... Avery is heading up to Kesagami to work for the season and we have a 5 night trip booked up there as well, with one day on the outpost lake as well. I can't wait! Got myself a 12 foot tinny on a trailer with a 2.5 hp brand new Yamaha so Monique and I can start exploring all the great little gems we've found while 4-wheeling around Jiggy. We're planning on a ton of videos to support the new store. Cant believe my boy is off to work in the bush ... he'll be right at home!! Man... im sick of plowing the driveway.
  24. Its a funny thing that this "defintion" thing comes up... Avery was home this week from university, most of his courses are geared to encourage critical thought on issues. He was telling me that one of the reasons that governments are dysfunctional is that they are arguing over terms/words, that cant be defined, or are defined differently by everyone. Words such as freedom and justice, words that means something slightly different to everyone. So therefore, your not arguing about the same concept, cause both parties interpretations of the word is different. AS for fishing being a sport... im unsure, im sure thats another word that people have a difference of opinion on.. Is fishing a sport to me... not sure. I think a sport is where the winner is just a better player and the field is level. Not sure thats the case with. Personally I think fishing tournaments are more of a Competition than a Sport, BUT those who define "Sport" differently than I would disagree. The thing I find funny here, is that Ice Fishing is Vying to become a more serious sport while the Olympics are gonna drop "Wrestling".... unreal.
