  11. Well after 6 long months and a ton of snow it was time to get up to Matachewan to see what was left of camp. We were last there at the end of Oct. and I was anxious to see #1 what repairs we would have to make for the summer, and #2 how high the water was as we were getting reports that were cause for great concern., It was with a happy heart that we got there and it was like nothing had changed since we left. We were very pleased. I spent the first half of the week with Avery having a bit of Dad/Son time before he heads off north next week for work, and then Monique came up for the last bit of the week and the weekend. Did a bit of fishing with Avery but the river was swollen and very fast and we couldn't get a bite! Monique arrived and with her the weather changed to cold and windy, BUT it made the fish more active for some reason and we did pretty good. I was using spoons from the store exclusively and I now have found my new favorite!! There was still plenty of snow on the ground on the way in.. But once we got there it was nice!! The water was high about 7 feet higher than the august low.. right up to the firepit! Glad we tied everything down.. stuff was floating! First thing I did was see if my redneck hotytub worked.. and it did!! Now I gotta build a better tub!! When Monique got there we commenced to fishing, heres some great pictures... LOTS of smaller pike, they were the only things that seemed really actibve! Can't wait to get back and bring my new outboard in, we've resolved to do one back lake every time we make a trip in this summer.
  12. I hope so!! I hope so!!
  13. LOL.. I hear ya Ron.. Its so pretty I barely want to put it in the water. My first trip into Jiggy last week, my 15 Johnson quit on me and I borrowed a 6 from Golden Eagle Camp for the week. I'd used these same motors before on lots of flyins, but forgot just how nice they purred.. it also weighs considerably less and is easier to get off and on the boat. Been wanting to get one of these for a while, but it was hard to justify when I had motor(s) that would do the job. Anyway sometimes ya just gotta splurge and these units are only gonna get scarcer, so i figured now was the time! NO Roy your kids will always be 6... lol
  14. Poor poor Geeky Guy with Glasses...
  15. Yup.. finally broke down and adopted the baby we wanted. 6 years old but owned by an elderly gentleman in Espanola. In mint shape with less than 20 hours on her. My other babay had been home long enough, and it was time for something new and a bit lighter, the other baby was hard on my back. (Its hell to get old ya know) So after being told it would be next to impossible to adopt a smaller 6hp 2-stroke in good condition, I searched and found this one pretty darn quick and snatched it up. Its a shame that Yamaha stopped making them, their 2-stoke line was likely the most dependable. I can't wait to get it on my 12' tinny and do some real back lake exploring!
  16. WOW!
  17. Im at camp and there is no ice on the river.. and VERY little snow left in the bush.

  19. I would really like to know how the MNR can have the stones put out a press release like this one... when they are adamant about stocking not helping Lake Nipissing, EVEN if they do not have to fund it. ------------- Across Ontario, millions of fish from provincial fish culture stations are being loaded onto trucks, boats and aircraft for stocking into public waters to help support a recreational fishery valued at more than $2.4 billion per year. Ontario operates nine fish culture stations in the province. Each year, these facilities produce and stock approximately 8.5 million fish into more than 1,200 lakes and rivers, including the Great Lakes. Fish stocking creates more angling opportunities, rehabilitates degraded fish populations and helps restore biodiversity. Fish are also indicators of environmental change and fish populations provide early warning signals about potential problems in the environment. Protecting and enhancing local biodiversity is part of the Ontario government’s plan to enhance quality of life for families and ensure a strong, green economy for future generations. QUOTE “Ontario fisheries are a significant resource contributing to Ontario's economy and recreational angling opportunities. We all have a role to play to ensure a healthy, diverse fishery for everyone to enjoy and to pass on to future generations.” — David Orazietti, Minister of Natural Resources QUICK FACTS Ontario invests approximately $5.5 million a year (editors note... PEANUTS) in fish culture and stocking activities. Each year, about 1.3 million anglers spend an average of 16 days fishing in Ontario. The province manages 24 per cent of Canada's fresh water, including 40 per cent of the Great Lakes and countless rivers and streams. Species stocked include Atlantic salmon, aurora trout, brook trout, brown trout, splake, lake trout, lake whitefish, rainbow trout, walleye, muskellunge and Chinook salmon. There are approximately 250,000 inland lakes in Ontario.
