  1. Glad you could squeak this report in before I leave Mike. Too bad about destination 1. I can only imagine the big clearing at that spot before the launch being full of tents and summer campers, must have been packed. Everyone has 21 days but I'm sure the place gets it's fair share of squatters and no one gets pushed to move along. Looks like a few folks from New Post erected a real tent too. September there were no bugs and no people there. I swear I recognize where you were in pics 1,3,4 and 5. The sidetrips I found often start out OK, but then end up 4-wheeler narrow. Did one 18-point turn with the Silverado to get out of one jam, and had to make about 2 dozen attempts to angle cross a bride not wide enough for a truck. Bill McCord. That was the name of the MNR guy whom I spoke with and faxed me up the stocking lists. Talk about A1 CO's for the Cochrane district. Too bad the fishing wasn't better, but truth is... I think it'll only make Cliff want to get back there that much more. Good show fellas. I'll have to view the vids at home later.
  2. Wait... "burried spedometer?" Probably only the Lumina as it was set around 180. The Z24 was 220. The Renegade 220 or 240 I think.
  3. Is there we all admit to breaking the law. Don't tell my folks this.... My pops Z24... had a V6, was a standard, got it to 195km/hr with my then daredevil girlfriend egging me on. Took that car a long ways to climb to that speed and I remember that steering being good and touchy. It was before they repaved the stretch between Perth and Balderson though. Ma's Lumina. It must have had a limiter for around 180km/hr. Me and some teenage buds got chased back from Ottawa to Perth by a few tough guy RMC boys we kind of P'd off. (total misunderstanding) They weren't so tough when they met my dad with Betsy (his crowbar) but we were still chicken shats and wondering what the hizell my pops was thinking calling 3 of them on when he hunted them down at the local Mac's Milk. A Chev Silverado got it up to around 180-185km/hr, that's it. Long straight stretch outside of Cochrane. Had the Renegade reach 187km/hr on very hard pack, pretty much ice. That's a bit of a rush, could've maybe kept climbing a little but there was a corner ahead and I was a scaredy cat.
  4. Good start dude. Keeping having fun out there.
  5. Welcome aboard Mark. Plenty of other freak floatfishers here too, lol. But, ya do chase the eyes so I guess we can give ya a trial here at the site.
  6. I bought some of these probably near 15 years ago. I never caught a fish with 'em. Handed one to a buddy one time and he caught one fish with it right away. lol. They're still garbage.
  7. Good summer so far Jen. Lots of fishing, lots of family. Thanks for the report.
  8. I had a Dodge once. It blew up... no kidding. For about 4 years I drove a Windstar for work. I was a teenager and it was the work vehicle. I actually kinda respected the thing for not crapping out from the abuse I gave it. This thread has got me thinking I'll need a Lada or an Isuzu, cause every other truck in here has been covered with something negative.
  9. Vehicles suck. Anyway... ( I just closed the other site I was at but it was a govmnt site and I just googled "gas mileage trucks") I was just looking at the gas mileage for the big trucks of 2008. The site listed city and hwy numbers. (averages I guess) The scores for 4wd in and around the 1500 class showed from best to worst (and I thought this surprising) 1. Silverado 2. Sierra 3. Tundra ties F150 4. Ram 5. Mazda B4000 6. Nissan Titan My buddy told me his Titan was a real pig on gas. Guess he wasn't kidding.
  10. It's not a good system. Trade it in for a $2000 Parabody. This coming from Hercules. Not me.
  11. I'll be looking to buy next spring and I've spent the morning today viewing both the Tundra and Tacoma. We have a 99 Silverado Ext.Cab. that's been a fair truck for us. When my wife bought it in 2000 it had 45,000km's on it and over the 8 years we've only put 50,0000kms on it. Still under 100,000. Major problems we've had were... the power windows. There was a design flaw that year for the tracking of the trucks power windows. A dealer pointed this out to us as he was gouging our wallets of about $900 to fix one window and semi-fix the other. Of course, the semi-fix was a full fix a year later and we got dinged another $800. Chev couldn't afford to recall all Silverado's even though one of their dealers was admitting they screwed up. Many people likely didn't notice the problem as much as us, for again, the driver's side of our truck is in need of repair. Reason being, it seems to be the rough roads; and one time definitely after the truck got off the train chain car, which worsen the problem. Otherwise, our Silverado pretty much bi-annually needed ball joints replaced, I have done brakes once, shocks once, and all tires once. There has been an ongoing tailgate problem as well but it's been MacGyver'd. I like the looks of the new Silverado's but am not sure if they're the right choice, I understand they get pretty poor gas mileage comparitively......... (would like to know differences between them all) Motor Trend 2008 truck of the year was the Tundra. Any Tundra or Tacoma owners have any opinions on their trucks?
  12. Thanks again for all the replies. I've cooled down some about this. I love this girl to death and both of them really are angels. She has one toy coming to her for her birthday that I may hold over her head for a week or two and see what happens. Other than that, I may try the chicken poop or nothing at all.
  13. Thanks for the input folks.
  14. thanks
  15. Most fish for me compare to beef tenderloin or great lamb and I'd eat all sorts of fish with equal enjoyment to those meats. Of all the trout, small brookies are my favorite, fried whole in butter. Of local freshwater I'll take pike over walleye and whitefish, BBQ'd on the plank.... with garlic butter. Of all salmon I like Atlantic, again, cooked on the plank.... maybe with a little apple-curry, or maple salsa garnish. For chowder if I can get arctic char that's the bomb. Most flavourful. Of southern Ontario fish I'll take perch over anything... except maybe crappie which I can't remember tasting but know I have. Battered and deep fried with a good squeeze of lemon. Louisianna or blackened catfish... droooooool!!! LoneStar used to sell it with shrimp, was a favorite but not enough people ordered it so it got canned. A shame. Tried many ocean fish but I'd have to say halibut is number 1, followed closely by grouper and mahi mahi. Red snapper and fresh yellowfin are pretty darned good also. A favorite... impossible,
  16. Nice. Crotch Lake is never much of a producer but it is a real scenic area. Good to see you all enjoyed your trip.
  17. Thoroughly enjoyed that report. Thanks for posting. Fish pee pics was good for a laugh for sure.
  18. Great news Lew. Happy to hear your wifes care was successful. Now, sit back, relax, and catch me your new PB muskie.
  19. TANK... Good fish and report FN'D!! Two thumbzup.
  20. Actually, YES!!! I'm guessing the road and many of those lakes right now. You and Cliff have a great time. Leave me the link to this one in a pm if you're not back by next tuesday.
  21. So... tell me where you're going in case I need to call in the loco search and rescue squad...???
  22. Thanks for the bump and words late-comers. lol. Gives me another chance to relive that great trip while having a late breakfast.
  23. Must suck leaving paradise this year. Especially seeings as there's more water and the bugs are finally settling down. I leave next wednesday Dave. You have to have that report up by Tuesday. lol.
  24. Lay a slight bed of mono on the spool then tie the braid to the mono with a uni to uni knot and finish spooling up the braid. PowerPro is good stuff. Should cast farther than mono and has no memory. Use a palomar knot when tying lures and snaps to that line. I like the stuff for much of the fishing I do. Good and sensitive for detecting the light bite eyes and super responsive to easy hooksets for big toothy pike.
  25. Bass fishing is serious business doods. Keep your shirts on during those office hours. lol. Some nice ones... good show.
